Scottish actor David Tennant, who recently wowed critics as the star of BBC America's Broadchurch, is set to star in Fox's U.S. adaptation, TV Guide Magazine has learned.
Tennant, perhaps best known as the tenth doctor on cult fave Doctor Who, will play a character similar to his role in the original Broadchurch, but this time he'll use an American accent. As in the U.K. Broadchurch, he'll play the lead male investigator in the case of a young boy found dead on a beach under a jutting cliff-face.
The casting reunites Tennant with Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, who's also executive producing the U.S. version and writing the premiere episode. Dan Futterman (In Treatment, Capote) and Anya Epstein (In Treatment, Homicide) have joined the drama as executive producers and showrunners. The show will also be executive produced by Shine America's Carolyn Bernstein (The Bridge) and Jane Featherstone (The Hour) from drama producer Kudos.

To what end? This is really absurd. I love "Broadchurch" and I'm not against remakes as long as they're of high quality but another actor other than him should've played his role in this remake.
ReplyDeleteIf they think that they can keep the main actor and plot and replace Olivia with some super hot chick and call it new series, thay are really wrong.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like a good idea, american versions of famous british 'classics that might be very young but allready are classics' often fail because the show shares the name but not the feel (f.e Life on Mars).
ReplyDeleteTennant and Coleman made their characters feel extremely real, it could've been easy to play the generic broken down cop but Tennant gave the character his own touch.
I personally am all of a sudden hyped for this project. That's the power of 10
Broadchurch was excellent! Kept me on edge of seat and didn't see that ending coming. LOVE DT in all that he does, I am just confused and holding out real judgement until more of the plot is mentioned. I have many questions concerning this, so I'll wait.
ReplyDeleteI will say that I am glad again to see David on my tv and always hope and wait for more. The more original Brit shows on BBCA or any channel the better in my book.
because David is going to the US remake of Broadchurch, they have to say why he moved to the states? His story arc still wasn't finishe plus his health problems. i would have loved to see him in Series 2.
ReplyDeleteHow silly to have him do an American accent.
ReplyDeleteI love David Tennant, but this feels very weird ...
ReplyDeleteI really hope the U.S. version will tell a different story then the first season of Broadchurch (U.K.), because otherwise it will feel very superfluous (and schizophrenic) to me.
Ya! The setting and style is what made the series! But ya never know,i'm willing to check it out!
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very odd decision, he will be filming S2 in the UK at the same time as S1 in the USA which will be a bit of a strain surely? Plus his American accent is terrible :s

I didn't know that was an option! Woah!
ReplyDeleteMore David is always a good thing if you ask me!
