David Boreanaz, who plays FBI Special Agent Booth, tells PEOPLE that he was "excited and happy" when he and Emily Deschanel, 36, filmed the wedding scenes.
"I'm proud of the show getting to a place where we could really give back to the fans what they've been wanting for a while," he says. "It was a great moment for Emily and I to be in the shoes of the characters and go through that."
The 44-year-old, who's also a producer on Bones, says they "went through a few drafts" when it came time to write the couple's vows.
"I don't think Emily went through as many vow drafts as I did," he says. "I wanted my vows to be somewhat of an experience of where we'd come from and where we are now today, so I gave them a bit of a history lesson on the altar – 'Look where we are, we've made it this far and do you remember back when we barely knew each other and were arguing?' So I wanted to play that aspect of it. It was a lot of fun."
