After the epic season premiere, Arrow hits its mark with a superb second episode, one filled with action, humour and the odd emotional moment. There are lots of brilliant scenes, particularly between two very different couples.
After deciding against using the list to find his targets in order to do some actual good in Starling City, Oliver is tasked with the mission of stopping China White and her new partner Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White). The scenes with these guys in are pretty cool, so watch out for them.
After Walter's intervention, Oliver is seen in a position of authority at Queen Consolidated. Felicity's been given a promotion which she abhors the idea of, while both she and Diggle are left with cover identities.
There's interesting developments in all three relationships on the show. Two are pretty straightforward while the other wasn't quite what I was expecting. You have to watch to find out.
Laurel is finally put to work in the DA's office. Her job role is reasonably limited here, but she has some interesting scenes off duty, including a very intriguing cliffhanger.
Roy continues to try and be a hero, but his attempts are repeatedly feeble. There's a cool twist towards the end of the episode that will no doubt leave him reasonably happy.
Sebastian Blood is introduced, an alderman who is very popular for his hopes of Starling City's citizens gaining back their lives. He has a distinct problem with Oliver, who he suggests as one of the causes of the city's destruction.
The island flashbacks mainly deal with Oliver dealing with the brutal murder of Shado's kidnapper. It was the first time he'd killed without it being an absolute necessity, so it's interesting to see how he reacts to it.
Other bits:
- We find out the origin of the arrow stone that Oliver gave Thea in the pilot episode.
- "My cover is as his black driver."
- "They'll never see you as anything but a criminal."
- Felicity may have a promotion, but isn't short of one-liners.
- Think back to the pilot episode. A theory stated then is proved wrong in this episode.
- Verdant still has cool music
Tune into the CW at 8/7c this Wednesday.
Fantastic preview Bradley, really looking forward to it even more now !
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. It's definitely a good follow up episode. The premiere was awesome and I think keeping that level of brilliance up in the following episode is tricky, and they've done it well.
ReplyDeleteSounds great. And is it me or does the quote "They'll never see you as anything but a criminal." remind anyone of the first Spiderman movie where the Green Goblin says "In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually they will hate you."
ReplyDeleteWonder what the theory from the pilot episode could be.
ReplyDeletegeez this makes me wanna see it even worse now
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the same thing...guess I'll just have to watch it again!
ReplyDeleteBut then the next question is this a theory that was presented in the show or a theory that we viewers had??? Either way I'm watching it again because it was awesome!
***UPDATE***
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
My sister just pointed this out: Sarah's death! 'Cause if you've been following casting info and stuff you'll know that that's not true!
Great review Bradley, you have a gift to tease us without spoilering anything :-)
ReplyDelete//We find out the origin of the arrow stone that Oliver gave Thea in the pilot episode.//
Wow, talk about consistency, who thought this detail would have been addressed in following episodes. Not than I am complaining tough.
I do like the banter between Isabel Rochev and Oliver, its kinda sweet in a fun way sort of taking things slowly, getting the feel of each other. I do know Isabel is not in this episode but can you say if Oliver or Felicity make a reference to the battle to control Queen Consolidated?
Goddammit! I wish it would air now :( . Hmm I am assuming Felicity will become Oliver's personal assistant or something like that? Which I could understand her being unhappy about given her intellect, if so.
ReplyDeleteMEGA SPOILERS
ReplyDeleteWasnt one of the spoilers about her revealing herself for Episode 5? if it already happens in ep2, cool!
Damn you! That's so mean of you :p
ReplyDeleteI really hate the idea of Felicity being Oliver's personal assistant, that's not a promotion IMO.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I could understand her being unhappy about it, particularly given her expertise.
ReplyDeleteDid you figure it out after watching the episode?
ReplyDeleteOh man i totally forgot about it! I did watch the episode, ill have to go and rewatch the first episode and the new one to find out.
ReplyDeleteOkay, i think this might be a stretch but, is it Tommys theory of Oliver not having had sex in so and so days?
ReplyDeleteVery good.
ReplyDeleteIt was a theory pointed out by one of the characters. I'm not saying who or what it is. Those with a good memory will remember when you watch the episode on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI neither confirm nor deny. But the scenes in her new role are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they mention about the company's power struggle.
