These are the prices for 30-second advertisements during the commercial breaks for all the shows airing in primetime on the broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and The CW).
The one I find most fascinating is that it costs $120,100 to buy ad time during Dads!! DADS! I guess the fact it entered the season so controversal actually may have added to the buy price! XD
Well advertisers got a bang for their buck with Supernatural this week at least. It had the highest numbers and they paid less than for TVD and Arrow and only a little more than The Originals and Tomorrow People. I know it's based on projections, which boil down to guesses, but still.
I think this really shows us how other factors besides 18-49 demo affect ad rates. Fox's Animation Domination does a lot better, for example, than simple ratings would indicate. While some of this involves inaccurate estimates of what ratings will be like before the season even starts, I think it largely also captures other demos such as being male-skewing or higher income-skewing.
I know. That is ridiculous. It must also have something to do with the impossible time slot. The demo ratings for the good wife are less and yet they get more per ad.
WOW! Look at the New Girl ad rates! SO HIGH! I think only Big Bang Theory has higher ads than New Girl. That's amazing. I didn't realize that the New Girl ad rates are this high. That's good for the show!
Doesn't look like demo is biggest factor. LO SVU airs on a weekday at 9 unlike TM and makes $. Looks good to me. So these are estimates. I can't understand ga's #s.
It also means how much the network gains for ads. The more they gain they less likely they cancel a TV show - since it's related to people watching the TV show: more people watches, more the ad costs, more the network gains.
Happy for The Big Bang Theory. That's a massive amount of money for just a 30-sec ad, which means CBS won't get rid of TBBT anytime soon. Remind me never to advertise on CBS in primetime!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteWould be fun to see what it's the current price rate for The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteSPN was at or close to the bottom in ad rates for years so this is good news that the show's ad rate finally increased.

ReplyDeleteNo, but surprised to see that Reign, which hasn't yet aired is priced higher. Guess the network is expecting a lot from it!
ReplyDeleteLooking at this, I have to wonder exactly how the CW makes money....
ReplyDeleteThat's great news then :D
