  2. Easily mystery spot. Not only my favorite on this list but my favorite supernatural episode of all too!! Never stops getting funny

  3. Fringe- White Tulip. It was such a great episode. White Tulip also turned out to be one of the most important episodes of the series. Important not only for the story but also for the fandom.

  4. Lost is almost always at the top of my list. I voted for Lost, Fringe and Haven.

  5. Supernatural, Haven and X-Files - Monday.

  6. Lost, Fringe and Supernatural...But Flashes Before Your Eyes is definitely the best episode out of these..

  7. Supernatural's Mystery Spot. Goodness knows how many times I have watched the episode.

  8. I normally don't vote for Supernatural in these polls since it always gets far more votes than it deserves, but that was a great episode (and I've seen every episode in the poll except for Fringe). Watching Dean die over and over and over was a lot of fun. About a year later there was a reference to that episode when someone mentioned how many times Dean had died and gone to heaven and then had his memory wiped each time when he came back to life (or something like that, I don't remember exactly).

SG-1 was my 2nd pick, lot of great gags in that episode. I didn't have a 3rd pick.

  9. Haven and X-Files! 'Monday' was my first X-File episode :)

  10. Have to say I am a huge fan of Groundhog Day style plots, being stuck in a time loop is just one of those storylines I really love in all mediums. I voted for White Tulip because its one of my favourite Fringe episodes. Second would be Mystery Spot which plays with the trope in a very funny way.

  11. Supernatural's episode by far. And as for the entire series, my favorite one is Day Break. :)

  12. Stargate's Window of Opportunity and Supernatural's Mistery Spot were hilarious, for the most part. And Haven's, poor Audrey had a horrible day, but it was a great episode.
But all the other ones mentioned here were great too. Like Lou said, I like this sort of episodes as well.

  13. Mystery Spot on Supernatural was fantastic.

  14. SPN - Mystery Spot was one of the finest hours of TV I have ever had the pleasure of viewing, it to this day remains one of the shows most acclaimed and fan favoured episodes. Its obviously not a new concept for a storyline but SPN's take was very well done. I both cried and laughed my way through the episode.
I also liked the Charmed and Buffy episodes too.

  15. Flashes Before Your Eyes, Life Serial, and White Tulip.

  16. I voted for Charmed cause no one usually cares for others But my favorite episode is The OC 412 The Groundhog day

  20. Yeah in season 5 - Dark Side of the Moon when Sam and Dean go to heaven Ash says that he has explained this to them several times each time they come there, then makes a reference to when Dean kept dying I believe, although been awhile since I have seen the episode lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lost - Fringe - Haven. I can't really choose between those eps.

    ReplyDelete
  22. White tulip from fringe was great too. But just doesn't compare to mystery spot. Although they are very different episodes, supernatural a obviously having a more comedic take on it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would have voted for Mystery Spot 3 times if I could..it was classic SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mystery Spot beat them all!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mystery Spot gets my vote :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Stargate SG1- Window of Oppurtunity. One of my favourite episodes of the series, actually.

  27. Supernatural, Mystery Spot is S3E11 not S2E11

Call me blonde or unAmerican lol but I don't understand Groundhog-day--- But because I like these eps I voted for Supernatural, Fringe and Haven :)

  31. Before I ever clicked on this post, I was thinking of Mystery Spot, which is one of the best episodes I've seen, not just on Supernatural. The premise sounds so dark (Dean dies over and over again), but it was comedic gold. Then taking that hard left into deep drama is Supernatural at its best.

The next best to me was Fringe by a long shot. White Tulip gave us an in-depth look at Walter and where he was coming from as well as impacting the series as it went on. What originally felt like it might be a toss off episode ended up being one of the best of the series. My third choice would be Stargate SG-1 but now I am interested in seeing the Eureka episode. I don't remember seeing that one, since I watched Eureka sporadically.

  32. Not sure if I am reading your comment correctly, so if I am not then just ignore me. Sorry. Groundhog's Day shows are named that due to the Groundhog's Day movie with Bill Murray, in which his character was forced to relive the same day over and over again until he made the main female character fall in love with him. TV shows that play with the same concept are nicknamed Groundhog's Day episode in honor of the 1993 movie. If you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it. It's light and cute and quotable - fluff fun.

However, if you are saying you don't get the point of Groundhog's Day, the American semi-holiday that predicts weather based on a rodent's shadow....well you are not alone. Many Americans are baffled by this one. Let's just say some traditions never die.

Oh ok lol. I thought that was a kind of American terminology but its a movie, before my time hehe. Anyway I'll check it out thanks :)

  34. a little surprised by a couple of my picks....and figure I'll wish I'd remembered others. but I picked Mystery Spot, Haven, and Eureka...which packed a pretty unexpected emotional punch

    ReplyDelete
  35. and already I'm screaming I wish I'd remembered that ep! Great pick

  36. My first reaction to reading your (excellent) explanation was to try and remember a pre-1993 show or instance of this phenomenon. But there isn't one in my memory. However the trope I do remember is the same situation from different points of view. I remember an ep of The Dick Van Dyke show doing that one. (I've always love that type of story.) Now I've got to see if I can remember or find a pre-1993 example of a Groundhog Day story. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hell Yeah! I said that out loud before clicking on the title and then was like HEY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love stories that revisit the same plot from alternate points-of-view. I wish more shows would do that. Again, Supernatural has a great, funny example with Tall Tales but the one I always remember most is the X-Files. Getting to see Scully and Mulder's point-of-view made the vampire story fresh.

If you do think of a recurring day movie/TV show pre-1993 please let me know. There has to be an example out there. I am sure it was in books as well. I just can't think of one to save my life right now.

  39. Mystery Spot, without a doubt. It's my all time favorite SPN episode, I've watched it countless times.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I haven't found anything that was specifically reliving the same day. I did finally remember an episode of I Dream of Jeannie where she made everyday Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Out of the choices, I ended up choosing Stargate, Haven, and Fringe. I loved that Stargate SG-1 episode, with O'Neill hitting golf balls into the stargate. Haven's episode, while hard on Audrey, was a great episode. Fringe and X-Files did very interesting takes on this concept too. Kudos! Fun poll, and most of the memorable shows that did Groundhog's Day ep's were represented!

  42. It would be hard to start with Mystery Spot on Supernatural because a lot of the episode's charm is already knowing the brother relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Interesting. I don't remember that episode. Will have to look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks for the tip, @Dahne! I did watch a few episodes per season of Supernatural, so I understand their brotherly love, to an extent. I meant I'm intrigued by the show as a whole. I'd like to watch more of the show sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay, I get it. Cool. I do highly recommend the show. For me seasons 2 and 3 are the high points and I love seasons 1, 6 and 7 too. Of course seasons 4 and 5 have great episodes in them as well. Supernatural is a show where you can watch sporadic episodes like you have and do just fine, but to really get the full effect you have to see the whole season. I hope you get a chance to marathon it at some point and let me know what you think. However if you only have time for one episode, I would suggest A Very SPN Christmas instead of Mystery Spot. It's a one-off that really shows Supernatural at its best.

  46. I would rec AVSC, too, for a newbie. If fact most every episode in the writer's strike shortened S3 is packed with the strength of the Bro Bond.
As to the poll all of these pics were excellent but I picked Stargate/SPN/Xena; I've found I like TV episodes *Inspired by* the GHD movie much better than the movie itself for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  47. AVSC is the perfect episode for people who have never watched SPN because it contains all the elements that make up Supernatural. You've got of course the strong brother bond, fun villains, loads of snark, some gross, good suspense, and even flashbacks. Put all together it makes the perfect standalone episode for people not sure if they will like SPN or not. Hard to believe it was written by Jeremy Carver, who demolished the brother bond in season 8.

  48. Don't get me started....* bleep*. Given what will happen in the S9 premiere ("Sam is healed somehow") even though I liked the concept of Sam doing the Trials solo I have to wonder if the "fall S8 episodes as they were rolled out w/r/t Sam's sl" would have been easier to swallow if Dean had done the trials solo, got sick, in 8.22 Jamie (Dean's "Sarah" - who I also really liked) from Monster Movie was killed and put the boys were in a' similar place' in Sacrifice. Sam would have to try to do anything he could to save Dean in the S9 premiere and it would be a lot more realistic than the crap of the S8 premiere Sam sl.

    ReplyDelete
  49. That would have been a reversal at least instead of the same plot hashed with a different Sam sickness. I would have liked seeing Jamie again as well as Sarah, and out of the two I would rather Jamie die. Not that I don't like her but because Sam's flings always die.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It would make complete if "Squirrel" was doing the trials, Crowley would target and kill Jamie to get the boys to throw in the towel (Lisa/Ben were already victimized by Crowley) because Jamie was as personal to Dean as Sarah to Sam. Crowley was targeting the people the boys had saved from supernatural enemies; Amelia wouldn't fit the Crowley's objective, nor would Doc Cara from S&V.

  51. Thanks for the detailed recommendation @Dahne! I marathon shows over the summer, but Supernatural has so many seasons, I haven't gotten around to it. I'll have to peruse my post history at Disqus to look at your recommendation again, once I have time for SPN. Thanks again! I appreciate you taking the time to give a thoughtful response. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thank you for also recommending that episode @CyanaT . I, too, enjoyed watching Xena, especially the earlier seasons. I couldn't remember that Xena episode until I searched for its promo on YouTube. That episode seemed like a fun one, but for some reason, I just don't recall much of it that well. I'll have to rewatch of those early Xena seasons to refresh my memories.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Buffy, SPN and Xena (easily one of my favourite Xena episodes ever BTW. When she just kills Joxer and then goes back to sleep and Gabrielle is just can't believe what happened.... LMAO!)
