The Bridge - Episode 1.10 - Old Friends - Advance Review

Last week on The Bridge, we saw Marco reunited with his wife and daughters, only to have his son taken from him in the end. This week's episode picks up in the aftermath of the car accident. Sonya, in her logic-defying memory, was able to recall the license plate of the vehicle that David Tate drove away in with Gus. While seriously injured in the accident, Sonya insists on getting right back on the case. She is, without a doubt, going to be using quite a few painkillers in the next few episodes. (Maybe she can get something from Frye's stash!)

Over on the ranch, the three stooges of ranch management (Charlotte, Ray, and Tim) are busy dealing with last week's revelation of the bugged weaponry. While Charlotte seems to be keeping Graciela's death between her and Cezar, it's not going to be long before Ray starts to wonder where his favorite cartel psychopath is. What's going to be even more interesting is when the rest of the cartel starts to wonder where their psychopathic leader is.

The majority of this episode focuses on the relationship of Gus and his father. During their search for David Tate, Marco recounts to Sonya the difficult relationship that he and Gus have had. Marco worries that he will lose Gus so quickly after he got him back. The emotional drama on this show has been absolutely fantastic and can't get any better.

My favorite parts of the episode focused on Daniel Frye. While this may sound hypocritical, considering my past criticism of Frye's character, I have a newfound respect for the man. Before, he was a simple junkie who had no trouble consuming vast amounts of cocaine or whatever he could get his hands on. Now, he has decided to go cold turkey and is going through hell, although, I'm not sure this strategy is the best. I don't pretend to be a doctor, but it's obvious that this behavior is dangerous to his health. Luckily for Frye, he has Adriana to help watch over him. Adriana has been a faithful sidekick to Frye, even when he was the worst partner imaginable.

This episode of The Bridge, while still up to par with the rest of the season, is what I would call a setup episode. Not a whole lot happening, but by the end it looks like something is ready to explode.

Rating: 8.8/10
