Suits Review 3.09 'Bad Faith'

We thought we were done with the Hessington's case storyline; we were wrong. This week it comes back at the end to complicate things even more. Ava has not only fired them, but is suing for malpractice. With only one episode left, I still hope they can tie things up next week and move on to other stories when the show comes back. But speculations aside, that’s a discussion for the midseason finale.

 ‘Bad Faith’ focuses on the ramifications and aftermath of the firm’s divorce from Darby. Scottie’s return only makes things harder for Harvey. He’s fighting to turn the balance in favor of Pearson-Specter, and fix Louis’ slip during the negotiations, when Scottie begs for his mercy. He makes a deal with her, showing trust. However, he doesn't even give her the benefit of the doubt when they lose they Hessington Oil’s account. Scottie is not a lovable character, but she presses the right buttons when she tells him he can’t allow himself to be in a position of vulnerability. He has a trust issue, and last year it was brought up that he thinks caring is a sign of weakness. If the writers use this aspect of his character in the right way, it could mean that he will grow up and one way or the other could be vulnerable without feeling he’s losing a part of himself.
Otherwise, the feeling that someone is always trying to deceive him will backfire.

 Louis is one of the most complex character in the show. He’s not only comic relief, but lately some of his storylines are borderline ridiculous. The Mikado’s trial was one thing, but him losing it during the negotiation is another. He is a good attorney, brilliant actually, and this misstep was hard to watch. However it worked to show a side of Louis that has always been present. He seeks the cool kids’ approval. And this time thanks to Katrina’s help he got it. Harvey and Louis working as partners, and him being overwhelmed about it, was, in Louis words, ‘littastic’. There’s still a long way to go, but I wish we would get to see both the rest of the characters and the writers taking him seriously. Also, I have to question Katrina’s motives to work by Louis’ side. Does she really see a mentor in him, or is it just a hoax to find a place in the firm?

 Meanwhile Rachel and Mike’s relationship is going through a setback. She’s not sure whether or not to move in with him because of what he is, as Donna pointed out. And now Stanford is in the picture. I have said it before, I don’t want to see Rachel go, but if it helps her to grow up as a character, and not only work under the shadow of just being a love interest, I’m in.

There’s only one episode left- Ava is coming for them, and these season still has loose ends regarding the merger and then divorce from Darby.
