  1. To people trolling right now: Please go get a life, a downvote with no valid argument just makes you a loser. An anonymous loser, but still a loser.

  2. Does anyone know if website owners have the ability to turn off the voting system, or is it a permanent thing across the whole service? I'm actually kinda hoping the spammer's idiocy will finally show that this feature isn't needed.

  3. What I liked:
    - Coulson's dynamic with Maria, Ward, and Skye.
    - J. August Richards was perfect in his part. Very underrated actor.
    - The humor
    - Agent Ward, despite being a badass, getting insulted by Skye, betrayed by Coulson, and annoyed by Fitz-Simmons.. he didn't snap under the strain. I really like this character.
    - Skye was great. Her fangirl moments were more amusing than annoying (it helped that the other characters were annoyed). She may be smart, but she's not nerdy and can look after herself.
    - Melinda May was badass. I look forward to seeing her history with Coulson.
    - Maria Hill and Sheppard Book. Also them discussing Coulson
    - the bus
    - the cinematography, direction, writing, and special effects were all amazing. It felt like watching a movie.
    - the references to the MCU, the comics, etc.
-Mike and Coulson talking about the ordinary man's place in a post-Avengers world.

    What I didn't like:
    - Fitz-Simmons were very annoying. I didn't find them entertaining at all. Hopefully that changes when they get some development.

  4. They've said in the past that it's just part of Disqus. They can't do anything about it. Just laugh it off. Some people just really hate hype.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Disqus doesn't provide the functionality to disable downvotes.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Laughing it off has always been difficult for me. I have a million downvotes in the Once Upon a Time polls because of it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  7. My comment was spared. Idk why, not that i'm looking for a downvote. I'm just thinking i didn't get one, b/c i'm the only one who didn't think it was "awesome"?? I mean like i said, it could've been better. I didn't like J. August Richards that much, i thought i would be glad to seem him. But i felt he over acted a little. I did enjoy the references to the Avengers though, and even though i've seen the trailers so many times, the Thor commercial didn't hurt either. = )

  8. It was fun. Unlikely to be one of my favorite shows, but it's a keeper.

I really want to find out what happened with Coulson. Got mystery there.

    ReplyDelete
  9. No this is a permanent thing. I've been coming on here for yrs. That button's not going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That's somewhat disappointing. Okay trolls, you go ahead and keep trolling. But mark my words, someday we will create the technology to reach through a computer monitor and punch someone. Your kind will cease to be so quickly once that day arrives, and it will be good.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It was good and I will continue watching. I love the actors, the chemistry, and the humor. I just feel like I was expecting a little more, but it was only the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  12. If the ratings were good, it does not matter what the petty down voters do.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The OUAT group here hates me. :-) Sometimes it is easier than others to laugh. Since they aren't saying anything, there's no point in engaging--they don't want to talk about the show they just want to counterbalance all the positive press the show has been getting. Actually thoughts are hard for me to laugh off, blind disagreement is like "really? okay then."

    ReplyDelete
  14. I thought it was light fun and cute, but I'm not sold on it yet honestly.

The manic pace used to create false tension and drama left me wanting scenes that did more than skimmed the surface. It felt so shallow to me... lightweight.

This episode felt a lot like a Marvel mini-movie to me...I have enjoyed most of the Marvel movies to some degree, but I rarely find them to be deep, meaningful or nuanced.

Don't get me wrong, lightweight can be a good thing and still be entertaining. Some good dialog, decent action, and of course (sigh) quirky tech geeks.

    Overall I guess I would rate it a "B-" I think.
I'm not sure I will keep watching if it does not slow down and mature, but for now it makes for a nice change of pace for serious dramas, or for watching while doing the dishes and cleaning etc.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah definitely laugh the down votes off. I liked this premiere and hope it does super well.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Pretty Little Liars fan sure hate me. It started when I said I was interested in its spin-off, after that even if all I said was "That was a good episode" and just being positive I'd get like 9 or 10 downvotes! Haha, to be honest though in some cases it's so petty you really just can't care.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Agreed on Fitz-Simmons
I am so tired of quirky tech geek support teams and these two were especially annoying..

    ReplyDelete
  18. I've had bad rounds with some fans from several shows. Some people just can't take someone not agreeing with them about a character, storyline, etc. I just try to explain my pov and why I like/dislike something and try not to let my feathers get too ruffled, sort to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Everyone gets down voted who cares. Its an opinion people disagree you don't need to bitch about it forever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haha, that sucks. I've definitely seen it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't mind nerdy techs. Hell, Topher in Dollhouse was fantastic. But these two in AoS were grating. The only good thing they had was the Hermione line.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I bet all of the down-votes are from DC fans.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Still, it gets annoying when it gets to the point of spamming.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's good. Hovercar :D

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't hate them all, and there are some fun quirky tech geeks, but.... why are they seemingly all that way? It just feels overdone to me.

When I first looked at the promo pictures I knew who would be doing what job on the team just by looking at their shoes! XD

Oh look, retro sneakers. They must be quirky tech geeks.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mine was spared too. *Hides*

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why do we have to choose? I like both Arrow and Agents of SHIELD :)

No but really, DC all the way

Great beginning for a great show.

The characters were likeable, the production values - top notch, and the introductory plot - decent.

I love the fact that the writers were completely aware of it when the tropes would happen(like when Coulson stepped out of shadows, etc) and lampshaded them.

The episode was not that big on the overall story arc, although the bits we got were AWESOME:
    - Really interested to see what is up with Coulson and if its really Coulson. So many ways this can go and I can't wait to see how they handle it.
    - Really interested to find out what is that thing Skye snatched from her van and what her motives are. For someone so smart and for someone who could hack into SHIELD out of all places, her capture was way too easy as if she wanted it to happen. now, WHY Is the question.
    - The show did a great job at setting up a plot foreshadowing for other characters too and succeeded to make me wonder about them all.

Overall a strong 5 out of 5. Hopefully the show can keep it up.

    ReplyDelete
  29. lmao, I just used you as a shield. lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL

Good one. Could be true. XD

(I like both universes but I am well aware of the competition)

  31. InvestedInYourFuture25 September 2013 at 02:55

IF there's one thing Whedon does really well is pay off for character development of such characters. Case in point, Willow from BTVS, Winifred Burkle from ATS, Claire Saunders and Topher Brink from Dollhouse, etc.

I am confident he has something up his sleeve about them ;]

    ReplyDelete
  32. I feel the same way ... I think.

I'm intrigued by the Coulson talk too...
My first thought was he was dead for real and they either cloned him or rebuilt him cyborg style. No clue what the Marvel universe has to offer in ways to bring back dead characters or Couslson specifically since I don't read comics. It feels like Coulson "really doesn't know" means he is not the man he used to be.... literally.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hope so. I'm optimistic because all of those characters got better with time. Except Willow who never really progressed in 7 seasons, what whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  34. InvestedInYourFuture25 September 2013 at 02:58

    I am all up for a weird poly-amorous mess of Ward/FitzSimmons :P

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL, that was funny! i like both universes but I love Marvel more.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You don't have to choose, but that doesn't matter. It's like the Star Trek vs Star Wars and Mac vs PC debates. Trolls abound.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, in reality they're not all like that and it would be fresh to have unlikely TV tech geeks. Ones not all that quirky, and have quirky field agents. XD

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anything is possible with this show. Did not see the ending with the car coming so now I'm expecting anything. XD

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok I have to say what a Awesome show it is and that's it nothing bad to say about it. Tuesday Nights will be a great night for TV this and SPN now that's a night of good TV watching.

    ReplyDelete
  40. InvestedInYourFuture25 September 2013 at 03:09

Considering she went from being insecure highschool bookworm to world-ending people-flaying magic-powered villain, I don't think our definition of progression really matches up :P

    ReplyDelete
  41. Really cool! My favourite character was Mike, J August Richards was very moving in the role. I hope it's not the last we see of him!

    ReplyDelete
  42. She had story-arcs and plot-arcs but not character arcs. Unlike the other characters you listed you can watch Willow's first appearance and last appearance back-to-back and she is essentially the same. Compare that to Fred, Topher, Saunders, Wesley, etc.

Even after Willow tried to destroy the world it didn't really change anything about her character. Compare that to Wesley who was emotionally destroyed after a "lesser" crime. Just watch the scene where Willow and Wesley meet in Angel season 4 and Wesley confesses his crimes and is all dark and rugged, then Willow cheerfully confesses he crimes.

I blame this on the show though. Buffy always had the plot pushing the characters into action, whereas Angel had the characters pushing the plot forward.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hahahaahahaha right??? Like what do you mean, i think she was one of the most developed character on that show. lol

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to agree with this. I see what you mean with Wesley. I'll even throw in Cordelia. B/c they developed the most. I still think Willow developed A LOT! Ok with her story arcs, but she changed her personality as well. She wasn't some goodie goodie shy little girl she was in season 1. She became more courageous, bolder to her friends. Not always taking orders but giving them. Etc, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Great piltot, great action packed, smell a lot of potential and Coulson lives, can't wait for the next one.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm so watching for Fitz-Simmons really cool characters

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow. I absolutely loved it. I had some pretty high expectations for the show and it met/exceeded them. I loved the tie ins to the Avengers/Iron Man 3..Loved the always awesome sharp Whedonesque banter and cool characters. If I were to have a quibble, if SHIELD is supposed to be this secret, dark, mysterious, government entity, I wonder why all the "shieldmobile" cars had the name emblazoned on the doors?... that gave me a laugh. Also enjoyed seeing some of the Whedonverse in play: Gunn - who I hope becomes a recurring character, and Shepard from Firefly! Can't wait for the rest of the season!

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Marvel-verse has Life Model Decoys and I -think- that is what they are alluding to. Coulson is dead for sure, imo.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It seems like people from another forum have decided to come here and spam negative comments(with no substance) and downvotes. A few of them only have ever made one comment and it is on this post.

On topic, I really enjoyed the Pilot. My only worry is that the Pilot had such high production values that there is bound to be a drop off somewhere and people will react to that negatively.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I liked it. Good balance of action and cheese. The way I like my TV shows. Truth serum part was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes I know what you mean about the ending having similarities to "Back to the Future - Ending/Back to the Future II - Opening". The Cosplay reference would mean the writers have heard of a little SyFy series called "Heroes of Cosplay"..............and here I thought I was the only one (lol)! The pilot was pretty cool, but not "Mind Blowing". Good enough for me to follow the first season.........plus I'll follow for Ming - Na alone! 4 A MING - NA SHIELD, I am Nobody!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I loved how Coulson is much more witty in this opening episode.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The reason is the Battle for New York pulled them out into the limelight. So now they are exposed. People know about them so why try to hide now? They are much like any other gov't agency now. So they have a rep so they now id themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  54. That truth serum scene was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Well A version of Coulson lived. Whether it was a clone body and his essence downloaded into it or perhaps he was sent to Asgard for treatment? Either way Coulson is operational.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Skye was not snatched. Coulson told the agent that she is an asset. Thus she was working with Shield.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I very much enjoyed it. Had good amounts of actions and nice little connections to the Marvel movies which just add to the experience. Coulson will always be hilarious to me: with him walking out of the dark hall and then describing Maria's porcupine as a poop with claws.

Once HIMYM is over, I really hope Cobie joins the cast full time because I enjoyed her on the show. Plus Cobie in tight outfits is never a bad thing.

    ReplyDelete
  58. LOLA IS AWESOME! :D

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think you are right, if you have ever been on ComicBookMovie.com you will see DC vs Marvel fights in every post its very annoying as I love both worlds and as long as it means more decent superhero movies I don't mind who does them!

    ReplyDelete
  60. You can't downvote if youre not logged in

    ReplyDelete
  61. I thought it was good. A very light hearted version of Fringe + Nikita. I hope it gets more serious and deep. Also loved the many marvel universe references.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I loved it!!!!! I will definetely keep watching it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I liked it, it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be but it was a great mix of humor, action, nods to the movies and great characters. I'm excited to see more about Melinda May and Skye and how Coulson was resurrected.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I loved it, I am so happy that I had my doubts cause instead of being disappointed, I thought it was good. I know a lot of people are going to compare it to the movie and such but they shouldn't cause it s a TV show so there will be differences. I do love Coulson, he is the best. Also what the hell is Agent Hill and the Doc hiding from Coulson? What is it that he can never find out? Should be interesting to see that secret come out. I liked how they had movie references in the show. Over all it was good. I am a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I voted awful. The series is great to a point. It started great until the moment they said unregistered that word just made me loose interest. I will watch it until i see it ruined.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Haters maaaaan...wow I'm choked seriously...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cobie was the highlight of the episode for me.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I really enjoyed it. I've never been a huge fans of the Marvel Comics so I didn't know what to expect. But it was more than I had hoped. Really loved seeing J. August Richards again. As for the regular cast high marks. Ward is a little too GI Joe/Ken doll which puts him last in the queue of the regulars in terms of how much I liked them. Fitz-Simmons gets first position. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I found it kinda cheesy, but will watch it again. I usually enjoy the marvel stuff. Maybe the show just needs to find it's footing.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh, I looooved it! But what's going on here? What's up with all the downvotes?
How about we all agree that everyone has a right to their own opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  71. I liked it! Except for Ward, he's kinda meh.

How big is the probability that we'll get a cameo from one of the big names?

    ReplyDelete
  72. LOL I can't wait for Stan Lee to guest star (is there any doubt about that?). I bet it will be hillarious.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree with you in this point.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, except for these haters, it seems like our regular peeps really liked the Pilot. I'm probably going to catch it in the next couple of days! :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Definitely the best new show so far...

    ReplyDelete
  76. Great.

It's got witty Whedon-esque dialogue (I laughed multiple times), fun characters, pretty cool action, impressive production values, and a premise with potential (although they could've fleshed it out a bit more, in my opinion). I didn't watch The Avengers so this was my introduction to Phil Coulson, and he really seems like a good lead: charismatic, witty but also competent, hard-nosed and with an undercurrent of BAMF just waiting to be unleashed. I also like the different skills of the team members and how they work together. This type of thing is usually done with a group of superheroes who work together; having, instead, a group of "normal" people working to contain the superpowered ones - kind of like a good version of The Company from Heroes - is an interesting twist.

Definitely sticking with this for now. I do hope subsequent episodes delve more into who is developing these powers and why, to establish a Big Bad. I get bored with story-of-the-week episodes pretty quickly.

P.S. That redheaded woman who Mike saved in the beginning, and later turned out to be the scientist that gave him powers or whatever - didn't she play Lindsay, Ryan's girlfriend in Season 2 of The O.C.?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Haters gonna hate... I enjoyed it immensely, and definitely noticed the Whedon-feel. Hope that stays while he's doing other things. Still quite some room for improvements of course, but I can't remember any pilot that didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  78. For a Pilot I was happy what it delivered, although the show can improve and will need some time to find its niche.

Particular the lines made me remember of Firefly and Dollhouse, so that is a part I enjoyed the most.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Stan Lee is the man! He appears in everything. (That involves him) I laughed so hard when he guest starred on TBBT. LOL that was classic!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I came here to make a comment on how comments are getting comments about comments. And to get down voted, obviously.

Anyway, I like it, I think it has potential, but being obsessed with mostly anything that involves superheroes, I still think it has room to grow. Btw, if they somehow manage to bring one of the Avengers for an episode, I'd probably burst with excitement. If it's Robert Downey Jr, I most certainly would. But that will depend on how well the show turns out for the 1st season. Here's hoping it does great.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It was alright. I'll probably stick it on the dvr and watch it later on during the week.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ana Flávia da Cruz27 September 2013 at 04:45

I really, really wanted to like this show, but I really, really didn't! D:
I'll take the 3-episode test to see if they convince me, though, so don't hate me just yet!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I liked it. Very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next ep. Hoping Cobie Smulders makes more appearances soon. Coulson2 is totally a clone or a robot. I'm also interested in seeing that reveal play out. I hope the show can keep up this level of quality, and maybe improve on some inevitable weaknesses in the first few episodes. I love comic book movies, esp. if done well. So, I'm excited about this show's potential.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I voted 'good'.

It was all right. I love the way it ties in with the Marvel universe, I love Coulson and I really liked the storyline of the episode.

Frankly, though, I'm really not a fan of Wheadon-speak, and that can be a big problem (it was eventually what drove me away from Buffy). Nobody talks like that... I understand that a show about superheroes is by definition not going to be striving for realism, but when you've just been found defenceless in a van by the shadowy government figures you're supposed to be scared of, you don't say "Waddup?"

Another problem for me is Fitz and Simmons. If I can JUST about bear the Buffy-banter coming out of the mouths of the American characters, it's even worse in British accents. At the very least, let the characters speak a little bit more slowly.

In fact, not just the speech, but the overall pace of the episode was way too fast for me too. I could barely keep up with where each character was supposed to be and what they were supposed to be doing. They might have benefited from having a two-hour long double episode to squeeze the same story into.

Despite those complaints it was fun to watch and I will be tuning in next time to see if Fitz and Simmons get killed off.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm sick of the joke "Thor is technically not a god" or "Thor is practically a god". They use that joke to mantain the illusion that Thor doesn't interfere with the single "actual" god (the awful christian god) in western culture. Why? Can't people accept in fiction a superheroe GOD? Thor is god. Period.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Fitz and Simmons seem much, much more like siblings than a couple. I doubt they ever become a thing

    ReplyDelete
  87. I like how every comment in favor of the show has the same number of downvotes.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Which is impressive considering the poll only has 7 poor/awful votes total.
