Warner Bros. announced on 12th September 2013 that J.K. Rowling would be making her screenwriting debut with 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', the first in a new film series which is part of their expanded creative partnership with J.K. Rowling. The films will be inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name, and will feature the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander.
“It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts', realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

Okay, I am so completely here for this, tbh. It sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteBut I still need the damn encyclopedia I've been waiting years for!
Sounds like a really cool idea, a good way to expand the movie franchise without doing a next generation kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm really down with this, no idea how it would work though.
ReplyDeleteMmmm... interesting. Hopefully they treat this with the same respect and TLC they did the Harry Potter books/films. But if JK is involved it will obviously be brilliant.
ReplyDeleteYay!! I'm really happy about this. The way I see it, the story of Harry Potter & co. is just one part of the universe JK Rowling created. It would be awesome if we were able to get to know this universe aside from the characters that introduced it and from different perspectives :D
ReplyDeleteI am so surprised! I don't even know what's it gonna be about, but I wish them good luck! Count me in :)
ReplyDeleteIt´s not wrong in any way!!!! Love Harry Potter and I´m right there with you...so excited!!
ReplyDeleteNo it's not. We grew up with Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited tooooo! XD
ReplyDeleteAnd jeesh it must be big encyclopedia, because it's taking forever (which might mean really awesome film material!!!!)
Thanks. I got that part ;)
ReplyDeleteMeant that I don't really know anything else. No details, like with HP :)
Wouldn't it be great if they did a film about Dumbledore and Grindlewald as a part of this series.
ReplyDeleteThese aren't shows, they're movies.
ReplyDeleteWHAT.
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter is not a show?!
ReplyDeleteTV Shows And Movies They Are Shows Jeez What Is With People Judging.
ReplyDeleteBest news all week tbh. I like this idea and the fact JK is heavily involved makes me super happy. I mean if Star Wars is still going strong why can't HP be doing the same?
ReplyDelete1) Movies are not shows
ReplyDelete2) No one is judging you.
I clearly missed that announcement. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteYou can read it here:

It's not really a story. At least not as far as I can remember. :p It's a 50 page book with descriptions of fantastical beasts, starting with one page about the author... I too wonder how they'll make a series of movies out of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I did not know that. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to admit, I'm not really worried since it's JK who's writing the screenplay :)
That is great news I would love to see this on the screen.
ReplyDeleteWell it will be mostly about the author of the book and the adventures to compile it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't mind that.
ReplyDeleteOf course they will do something different than that for the film.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't enough words in the English language to properly describe how many emotions this gives me, but excitement is definitely one of them.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is surprising. Good for you Rowling. Have to say though that i am far more interested in getting a novel about what was happening at Hogwarts while Harry, Hermoine, and Ron were out pursuing the Deathly Hallows. I'd love to see that story told from Neville or Ginny's point of view.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a book about the first order too as well as a book on the original 4 wizards who created Hogwarts. I bet they have some great stories never learned in the original books.
ReplyDeleteI'm only not dancing because these shoes hurt my feet, but I am dancing in spirit and I was already an adult when the first HP book came out.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I get it, it's just that before that book I thought Rowling only made brilliant stuff, and then it shattered that belief for me. :/
ReplyDeleteJust Stop Talking To Me.
ReplyDeleteWhat the...?
ReplyDeleteBut You Made A Point.
ReplyDeleteBest. News. Ever.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what you are even saying right now.
ReplyDeleteMovies Are Not Shows You Made A Point I Was Wrong.
ReplyDeleteOkay then.
ReplyDeletemy friends daddy just got an
ReplyDeleteawesome white Mercedes SL-Class SL63 only from working part time off a
laptop... look at these guys www.JAM20.ℂom
The cynic in me too over, so my original reaction was: "shameless cash in of the Harry Potter brand because the non HP endeavor didn't work out as planned."
ReplyDeleteBut my love for the series, the books and the wizarding world tells me I might be wise to withhold judgement. It does have potential after all.....
