Dorothy Must Die - Wizard of Oz Drama from Heroes creator Tim Kring in development at The CW

Thanks to Krigin and laura3341 for the heads up.
The summer of Wizard Of Oz continues with another sale of a high-profile Oz-themed drama project. I’ve learned that the CW is in negotiations for Dorothy Must Die, a drama from the Heroes trio of creator/exec producer Tim Kring and exec producers Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster. Written by Armus and Foster with Kring supervising, I hear the project is based on the upcoming young adult novel Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. It is a revisionist take on the classic tale set in present day, 80 years after Dorothy Gale supposedly came home. In reality, the magically-ever-youthful Dorothy has stayed in Oz, presiding over a now fascist fairyland with her perfectly manicured iron fist and the help of her henchmen – the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. But when another young woman from Kansas is swept up in a tornado and magically dropped into this war-torn Oz, our hero discovers a revolutionary underground of witches and enchanted beings only to learn that she is destined to lead their people in the fight to reclaim Oz from a power-hungry Dorothy’s ruthless clutches. The book will be published by HarperTeen next April, with digital prequel novella, No Place Like Oz, available now. The property originated at James Frey’s book-packaging company Full Fathom Five, with him and Todd Cohen, President of Film and Television, exec producing alongside Armus, Foster and Kring.

  3. Oh hell no with ruining Dorothy and the gang by making them villains. Don't try and ruin my childhood, Kring and CW!

  4. Don't watch, then you're childhood will still be intact.

  5. Sounds mildly intriguing. And I'm actually loving the title. Definitely gets your attention!

  6. I'm not planning on watching, unless I hear great things about it- I very rarely hate-watch a show (why waste energy). I can still express my feelings about this announcement, though. And what the hell is up with all these Oz adaptations all of a sudden?

  7. This is like the youtube music video in which Ariel is killed by fishermen, Jasmine is caught up in the Middle East war and Pocahontas is sold as a slave... I think its the new trend to rip apart the Disney movies lol.

  12. It's not these guys creating it, they are borrowing the premise "...based on the upcoming young adult novel Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige".
I actually think it sounds pretty interesting.

  17. Well The Wizard of Oz has yet to prove it can be a successful trend on tv, since their's yet to be an aired show based on it. Still there is like 2 or 3 shows being produced right now on it. I'd say it's more of a gamble than them knowing its gonna be successful.

  18. Not exactly sure but I think it's something like 2 or 3 shows.

  20. Don't watch! :P Seriously tho, it kills your childhood. Disney movies were my live when I was a kid... and this guy shot them dead in 5 minutes lol

haha I already saw it, at least he didn't put the rape of Sleeping Beauty from the original tale :P

  23. I am a big fan of fractured fairy tales so this definitely has my attention...as a book. Not sure what to make of it as a TV show.

  24. This is awesome! Definitely not for kids but closer to the spirit of the original tales for sure. I mean Hans Christian Andersen killed off the Little Mermaid.

I love this guy's videos. My favorite one is his Harry Potter in 99 seconds. It's fabulous! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y57sYHIDP_Y

Different interpretations are okay. having a show focusing on evil Alice or Evil Dorothy, etc, is fascinating.

The problem is who is doing them.

  28. I get where you're coming from, I do! But to be fair, he has had great moments too...

Having said that.... I'm a bit "Meh" on the premise in general...
