It's almost as if he's coming back because Dan Harmon is coming back... yep, that's it.
He appeared in the pilot (when the show wasn't sure to get made) but given his Daily Show status, he couldn't appear every week (he knew that before, so it means it was pretty much a favor for him to be in ep 1.01, so it gets picked up), so he was basically "replaced" by Ken Jeong, starting in ep 1.02.
Jonathan Banks asa regular (too bad Pierce is gone, that annihilates the chances of having Giancarlo Esposito back) + Walton Goggins as a guest + John Oliver returning is utter brilliance and it almost makes me forget the fact that the study group will be shattered, with Pierce gone and Troy departing after episode 5.05.
Despite all the amazing guests, that will be season 5's greatest task : handling properly the departure of two original cast members while constructing the season without knowing if it'll stop at episode 5.13 or go on for additional episodes — which it bloody well could, and should.
No Dan Harmon has said that they're going to knock out the 5 episodes right away and deal with it. It's probably part of Donald's deal to have it as the first five, since he'll be able to leave sooner than having it spread throughout the season.
Ok so wait. First we learn that Breaking Bad's Mike will join the show, and now Ian Duncan returns? Holy camolie. Are we gonna get Community's best season yet?
I suspect Harmon probably also didn't want to be having to explain why Troy wasn't around every other episode, like they did with Pierce last season. Better to just close off his story cleanly.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Yay! I love him so I am really happy about this!:-)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, I love Professor Ian Duncan.
ReplyDeleteHe is awesome and i missed him in season 3 and 4
ReplyDelete"My name is Ian Duncan and I'm here to say I'm gonna rap to the beat in a rapping way. I got a real big p**** and I drink lots of tea!"
ReplyDeleteAwesome news!

ReplyDeleteThis is streets ahead!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! More Prof. Duncan can only be awesome.
ReplyDeleteAlmost takes a little of the sting from having less Troy...

Yay!! Such good news, especially with the loss of troy
ReplyDeleteWait, Troy will leave after 5.04? I thought he would be in 4 episodes, but not necessarily concurrent.

I am so excited! I was obsessed when he hosted the daily show this summer and now I can't wait to have him back in my life
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic news! Missed him in Seasons 3 & 4..
ReplyDeleteThe show's greatest task is coming up with an episode title that goes beyond Advanced Introduction to Finality.
ReplyDeleteDan Harmon's already got me excited about this season, even tho my favourite character is departing in episode 5.

ReplyDeleteYay! I missed Duncan.
ReplyDeleteYES! I love it when he pops up!
