Breaking Bad - Spin-off Press Release

Sep 11, 2013

AMC and Sony Pictures Television confirmed today that they have reached a licensing agreement for a spinoff of Vince Gilligan’s landmark AMC/SPT series Breaking Bad. As conceived, the new series is based on the show’s popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul. Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.

  1. Really have no idea if this will work but if they make it more of a comedy/drama like early Breaking Bad it could be really fun to watch.

  2. Awesome! I am so happy it got greenlit! I definitely believe Saul can carry his own show.

  3. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  4. This means we might see cameos from the likes of Gus, Tuco, Krazy 8, and maybe Jesse. I wouldn't expect big roles, just easter-egg type appearances for the most part.

  5. No, no, no PREQUEL... please NO. Otherwise, yes, bring on a current, "unpredictable" spin-off!

  6. Sorry, the single word 'prequel' really bursts my bubble. I'm just... really tired of prequels, so I'm predisposed toward not liking it.

  7. Amen, they take an awesome idea and completely ruin it.

  8. Not really interested in a prequel. We know where he ends up, so there won't be any tension or sense of danger for the character. I'd rather have a sequel series, where we can see how much he's changed since Walter and Jesse came into his life.

  9. yeah and maybe Mike as well that would be great!

  10. I'm not sure if Saul is going to survive the end of the season to have a sequel...

  11. I've mixed feelings about this. I love Saul, but I also think that BB is wasn't created for a spin-off.

  12. VInce Gilligan came up with the idea to make it a prequel, so I trust that that is the best way to do this show. He has never disappointed me so far!

  13. I'd love to see Bob Odenkirk in his own series, but I don't this is the one I want.

  14. I bet it's really a sequel. They are just calling it a prequel because bb is still on the air

  15. That's just another reason to not care about a prequel. If we already know everything about his future, why should we take the time to see an entire series of backstory?

  16. Interesting. That way you can announce the show without revealing Saul's fate.

  17. Bob Odenkirk better return, if this really is a prequel and they cast a younger actor to show his early life I will not be happy! Love to see Mike, Huell and co back too.

  18. Oh God, prequel. Keep your head down in these next 3, Saul.

  19. Do you watch a tv series only to know whether the main character will surive or not? If so, Vince Gilligan wouldn't be proud of you... And the series can start before meeting W.W. and end after events shown in Breaking Bad (skipping them) - why not?

  20. I thought the same thing.

  21. I don't really thing the purpose of the show will be to fear for the tension or the dangers in which the character will be implicated. It's gonna be lighter and more comedy-y.

  22. You're seeing it the wrong way. We already know about the characters' fate?
This is supposed to be a comedy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Same here. Not really crazy about the idea.

  24. The whole reason Vince Gilligan wanted to do the show was because of Bob Odenkirk. Rest assured, he'll be the star.

  25. Are you kidding? Mike? Gus? Still alive! We could see some Ehrmentraut and Fring guest stars!

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is fantastic! Let there be Honey Tits, Wendy and the ATM Skank though, please! I'm on board just for Saul but we need more.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Do not want. Just leave Breaking Bad alone, in a little bubble of awesome.

  29. Yes. Even though they kept saying it could be a prequel or a sequel, I always assumed it would be a sequel. I wish it was a sequel. Or at least I wish after one or two seasons, the show will reach the moment when Saul crosses paths with Jesse and Walt, and then forward the show to after-Breaking Bad.

  30. Yes. If Saul ends up dying in Breaking Bad, no matter how good the prequel is, there is always this feeling of "Oh yeah, this guy is dead now."

  31. Saul is a great character - I'm glad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm quite cool with the prequel idea....
(also leaves you wondering if Saul will make it out of BrBa alive or not...)

  33. When the going gets tough, you don't want a criminal lawyer. You want a CRIMINAL lawyer.
