Atlantis SSUPDATE: The missing words have been filled in :)
Here's this weeks teasers, any guesses on the missing words? As usual I will fill them in later in the week, and my thoughts are in the comments below.
“I won’t be sent to my death, I'm not ready to die”
“This is just the beginning, you have a great destiny”
“How do you know I've been thinking of triangles?”
“Only you can bring an end to the peoples fear and suffering”
“No, no, no. This lizard thing attacked me”
“Hunting lions? Who the hell has hunting lions?”
“It is the mark of the Oracle, if you are looking for your father she may be able to help you”
“Seven die so that twenty thousand can live”
“You know how I've always said there is no man more useless with a sword than you, well I was wrong, it appears we've found someone”
“The thread will not tangle or break”
“The stone will not draw itself”
Trailer Teaser
“To descend to Hades means certain death”

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, it started off
ReplyDeletereminding me a lot of Merlin…hero comes to a new, unfamiliar town with a market
place, lots of stylised fights, etc…but soon came into its own. Mark Addy as Hercules is easily my favourite
so far, even though he is the comic relief role, with Juliet Stevenson as the
secret laden Oracle a firm second.
One of my biggest bugbears with Merlin was how it woefully
under used the females but with Overman on board I was hoping that this would
be addressed here. Even though this
first episode is more male driven due to the plot and introducing the lead three
actors, it does show promise that it will be using women in more central roles.
Thanks for posting Sandi, glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the destiny thing does have me a lil worried after seeing what happened with both Robin and Merlin, and as you can see from the teasers Jason does indeed have a destiny story kind of thrown at him in this. I really, really hope that Overman has more say in the way the arcs are run, I think he can be a great writer and show runner and could be the man to make this show stronger and more rounded than it's two predecessors!
ReplyDeleteI hope Overman has more control over the arcs as well, and like you, I am rooting for more strong female characters, (who hopefully will not smirk). I don't really care if they are either good or evil, but I want backstory and motivation.
ReplyDeletePasiphae looks like a smirker, but the Oracle looks like a deep secret-laden character.(Perhaps she is Kilgarrah in human form! ) The costumes were evoctive but far from period, so in that respect this show has all the hallmarks of it's predecessors. I look forward to the BBC America release date. It sounds from the title 'earth bull' with the Minotuar that they are diving into the myths head first, second show has to do with maenads,(Is that a dark foreshadowing at the future of Ariadne? I hope not... Theseus abandons her to the maenads at Naxos) There was tons of foreshadowing in Merlin that did not take form till the third and fourth seasons. Curiouser and curiouser! Guess I will have to watch!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you picked up on Pasiphae being a smirk candidate as that was my thoughts too, though perhaps I shouldn't say glad..... lol
ReplyDeleteThe Oracle is very much like a Kilgarrah character, I hadn't made that connection but now you've mentioned it it does seem to fit. She seems to know a lot but isn't very forth coming with much of it as yet, I can't say too much without giving too much away unfortunately thou. I will be filling in the missing words in a couple of days which may help with some of her secrets.
Unfortunately BBC America aren't showing it until 23rd November, thou I cannot really understand why. As Doctor Who is being simulcast with the UK it can't really be the lead in to this, unless they are planning an advert included repeat of the 50th before it. But most fans will obviously watch it 'live' and also hate ads therefore the audience won't be at it's prime in the evening, so the whole thing has me a bit baffled tbh :s
The wait for the November release date is drag, because, as you say, it could be simulcast. But who knows. I really want to give this show a chance. I think it's interesting that for the Jason protagonist, they picked two clearly opposite forces. A clearly mythological person and a historical figure as a companion: Hercules, son of a god, and Pythagorus, historical figure with a well known theorem and a gentle philosophy. "Behind the cloud with it's shadow, is the star with it's light." Makes for interesting adventures, don't you think!
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed! Thou there is a bit of a twist when it comes to Hercules which you may have picked up from the promotional stuff? And I guess there is one with Pythagoras too, as we know that he was born on a completely different island and in a different era.
