I loved the sneak peek, but boy are they teasing us Olicity shippers or what? That's made me think they might be teasing a bit TOO much for Olicity to ever happen. Am sad now...
I'm guessing Felicity is dreaming or fantasizing this scene. I don't know, the whole clip seemed unreal to me, and the acting was completely over the top.
He didn't leave to have fun, he left because he felt he needed to stay away from this world and only did damage since his return. Him returning to the island and punishing himself with solitary again makes sense.
Whose acting? Emily's or Stephen's? To be honest, the whole clip reminded me of some Tarzan movie where Tarzan jumps from a tree to save Jane! I don't know if it's a dream or for real, but it seems to me that the writers are teasing Olicity like crazy, to the point of becoming cynical. If they think that a Felicity/Oliver romance is what the fans want, why don't they go for a real F/O relationship, rather than these contrived moments of pseudo-romance/pseudo-sex?
You may be right! All I know is that Marc Guggenheim teased this scene at least a month ago in one of his tweets: "Shirtless Oliver ends up on top of Felicity". I can see the guys in the writers' room, trying to come up with a situation where they can get Oliver and Felicity in an innocent yet suggestive and semi-erotic situation, like "let's have Oliver jump from a tree and end up half-nekkid on top of Felicity!" I guess a man's gotta do what I man's gotta do to please the shipper fandom...;-)
That's the kind of thing I expect to happen between those two once in a while because there are so many viewers who gladly lap it up. I'm questioning the validity of Felicity traveling to Lian Yu altogether.
It could be that Felicity and Oliver has developed such a special emotional bond that she is the only one who will be able to bring him back to civilization. At least that's the impression I get from reading some Olicity shippers' descriptions of Felicity and the Oliver/Felicity relationship, such as the following:"Felicity brings light to Oliver's darkness", "she brings reason and thought to his mission" and "it's Felicity who makes Oliver a hero and not a vigilante". In view of Felicity's extraordinarily benevolent influence on Oliver, her presence on the Island should not come as a surprise!
Well, if I were Felicity, I wouldn't let Diggle go alone, they're the only ones knowing Oliver's secret and cannot rely on anyone else. Better being 2 than 1. Also explanation B is the most likely.
I'm having difficulty figuring out how Diggle would be relying on Felicity in an uncharted island jungle. To put it mildly, that scenario isn't exactly in Felicity's wheelhouse. So, yeah. B is most likely.
i meant relying as in to convince Oliver to come back home like you said ahaha it's late and i need some rest lol but it's not like Diggle can ban Felicity from going to that island either. Remember the 'If you're not leaving, I'm not leaving'? I don't think it's in Felicity's to be left behind.
Ah, okay. A misunderstanding on my part. Apologies. I suppose you do have a point that Felicity would rather be included than sitting by herself back in Starling City worrying and wondering what's going on.
No wonder they are introducing the gimmicks of Superheroes and Dc stunt casting, the writing sucks, the acting goteven more crappier. Only Ramsey seems to be even trying.
Okay this is weird, in the alert I got about your reply the post was much longer. Anyway, I thought everybody was overacting, and that included Diggle. As Drako said so aptily below, it felt like badly written fanifction - hence my feeling that it's Felicity fantasizing. I'm sure TPTB at Arrow are aware of the large faction of Olicity shippers out there, so maybe they decided to throw them a bone and give them something to squee about. Vote me down all you want, but I doubt this couple will be canon any time soon - and I for one am glad about it. We had enough love drama last season with Laurel and Thommy, and there's still the ongoing affair between Thea and Roy. Leave Oliver out of it - except for flashbacks with Shado - and let him be Arrow first and foremost, not some soap opera hero.
Amen to that! But you know, this is the CW, and they are notorious for pandering to the shipper fandom. The fact that Guggenheim teased this scene in one of his tweets ("we'll see Oliver shirtless on top of Felicity") months ago speaks volumes about their "shipper tease" tactics. I agree with you that "Olicity" isn't likely to happen any time soon-though I predict that the writers will try to milk as much as they can out of the Felicity/Oliver ship by setting up pseudo-romantic/sensual situations like the one in the promo, but without commiting themselves to any serious romance. I would also prefer if they focused on giving us a good "Green Arrow" story in season two, rather than trying to pander to the shipper fandom. I mean the shippers are really a small subset of the online fandom, which in turn is a drop in the ocean when compared to the large mass of causal viewers who never go online to talk about the show.
Yup, this scene could have been taken straight from an "Olicity" fan fic! As for Diggle being thrown to the sidelines, I fear that season two will be even worse than season one. First there was only Diggle in the "Arrowcave", then they introduced Felicity and now they'll bring in a slew of gorgeous young males, like Roy Harper and the Flash. I hope I'm wrong, but it.looks like the only middle-aged "person of color" in the cast will have to step aside while CW caters to the tastes and preferences of its core demographic...
I realize I'm far from the CW's core demographic, and to be honest I didn't expect to enjoy Arrow as much as I do. Usually I can just sit through the inevitable romantic drama, but I wish they would exclude Oliver. I never read the comics, but to me he's meant to be a loner who's married to his cause. I wouldn't even mind pseudo-romantic scenes so much, as long as there is something that stops an actual relationship. UST can be so much more interesting than outright romance if done right. (Thinking of O'Neill and Carter on SG-1, they were amazing together and kept it up for many seasons.)
I think the big breakthrough of Felicity was to lighten the show, especially the Oliver/Diggle scenes. The " you're sweaty" line wouldn't have made sense with just Diggle but with Felicity, it's funny. Felicity-in-peril also gave Oliver the chance to be a hero again, even though he'd given up. It ties into who Oliver was in season 1.
I think your option B is correct, that it will be Felicity who talks Oliver into going back because she's been the one to see him as a hero and pushed him to do the right thing last season.
Bottom line: Adding Felicity makes the whole scenario more interesting, even if some suspension of disbelief is required.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Best sneak peak ever =] Olicity fans are going to LOVE this one... Can't wait to see the two of them convincing him to come back!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteSooo excited! Team Arrow & Olicity <3
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is Oliver doing in Lian Yu?
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't Love Felicity?? , she is my favorite part of the show
ReplyDeleteI was wondering the exact same thing...
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!one more week to go!!!!
ReplyDeleteI mean we know he leaves Starling City after the finale, but I thought he'd go to Vegas or some other luxurious place..
ReplyDeleteThis looks so good. Is it October 9th yet?
ReplyDeleteAre you trying to poke the Olicity shippers with a stick?
ReplyDelete"You're really sweaty" lol
ReplyDeleteOk i have to ask. Why is he back on the island?
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't already excited!! These 9 days are going to be hell of a waiting!
ReplyDeleteWow, now that's an awesome rescue!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the sneak peek, but boy are they teasing us Olicity shippers or what? That's made me think they might be teasing a bit TOO much for Olicity to ever happen. Am sad now...
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing Felicity is dreaming or fantasizing this scene. I don't know, the whole clip seemed unreal to me, and the acting was completely over the top.
ReplyDeleteI vote for B!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a mix of both. Felicity isnt one to back down, so she'd have insisted in going with him.
ReplyDeleteBest sneak peak ever
ReplyDeleteI think both Felicity and Diggle know that Felicity can get through to Oliver more than Diggle can.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't leave to have fun, he left because he felt he needed to stay away from this world and only did damage since his return. Him returning to the island and punishing himself with solitary again makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI think the only reason why Felicity is on the Island is so that the writers can give the "oliciters" some "ship tease"!
ReplyDeleteWhose acting? Emily's or Stephen's? To be honest, the whole clip reminded me of some Tarzan movie where Tarzan jumps from a tree to save Jane! ReplyDeleteI think I see what you're getting at but I'm presently having a tough time reading my computer screen because it's dripping with sarcasm. :)

ReplyDeleteBad CGI
ReplyDeleteLooks like a badly written fanfiction

OK... so Oliver came back to the island, to train harder??, what the hell is he doing there??!!
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOSH. SCREAMING RIGHT NOW.
ReplyDeleteno need to apologize, my writing was not the best lol

ReplyDeleteLOVED IT, we got a Olicity scene :D:D:D:D:D:D Can't wait for season premiere!!!!

SOoo...they showed Felicity Smoak into this scene WHY exactly? what is the reason she is even there? Can't seem to find any apart from fan pandering.
ReplyDelete...how exactly do they plan to get off the island if they parachuted down? :\
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me even more excited for the premiere. Oliver went BACK to the island!
