CBS has put in development Dorothy, a drama project from Elementary executive producers Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman. The project, from CBS TV Studios where Timberman/Beverly Prods. is based, is described as a medical soap based in New York City inspired by the characters and themes from The Wizard of Oz.

I ... what the fuck? In what world does that even make sense? Why would anyone think this is a good idea?
ReplyDeleteHopefully it doesn't get past the development stage.
I'm going to go ahead and file this one under "WTF."
ReplyDeleteAll aboard the "WTF" express. Who is pitching this...stuff?!
ReplyDeleteHow in the world do those two ideas mix???
ReplyDeleteWTF! I would actually want to watch an episode just to see how stupid it is.
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck is that?!
ReplyDeleteEw. Any hesitations I might have about jumping to conclusions were immediately dashed by the fact this will be on CBS, they already hardly know how to do high concept correctly, I will avoid this if it somehow makes it on the air.
ReplyDeleteLol! The minute I saw this article on my Spoiler TV news feed, I was like WTF? XD
ReplyDeleteBesides the subject being beyond bizarre, hasn't CBS failed multiple times with medical dramas?
ReplyDeleteGuess they were passing the blunt around at the meeting this was approved.
ReplyDeleteLOL, what?
ReplyDeleteThoughts on the latest hot mess at CBS:
ReplyDelete- First of all, there's no way in hell I would let the Cowardly Lion operate on me.
- How long before someone says "Dorothy, your actions in the OR were reckless. You'll be lucky if the Lollipop Guild doesn't pull your medical license."
- Do they give you anesthesia by laying you down in a poppy field?
- Reaction to discovering a bowel obstruction: "It's a twister! It's a twister!"
- Won't it be weird in emergencies when someone calls 911 and flying monkeys show up to take you to the hospital?
- If you want privacy in a double-occupancy hospital room, do you put up a sign that says "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain?"
- I'd bet anything that the Wicked Witch works for an insurance company.
lol... ok, I'm guessing that "Scarecrow" will be a brain surgeon, "Tin Woodsman" will be a cardiologist, and the Cowardly Lion will be a psychiatrist, the wizard is the hospital administrator of Emerald City medical center, and as for the Munchkins..... no idea... lol this sounds pretty silly, but I guess I'm encouraged that CBS is looking at projects outside their normal procedural templates
ReplyDeleteI looked up if any cities have the nickname, "Emerald City" and a few actually do...
ReplyDeleteEugene, Oregon
Greenwood, South Carolina
Seattle, Washington (probably won't be this since G.A. is already set there)
Syracuse, New York
Wichita, Kansas
So if I had to guess the hospital in that show will probably be in one of those cities.
Even though the "inspired by characters" somewhat intrigues me, that was pretty much my reaction when I saw the announcement in my Twitter feed. I definitely don't see how some of the themes of the movie can fit in a hospital setting.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds ridiculous. They must really have run out of good ideas to come up with this.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds even more bizarre than the premise of Extant.
ReplyDeletePlease leave Wizard of Oz the hell alone especially if its going to be some procedural medical drama, ugh.
ReplyDeleteThat's just so unnecessary, but I guess it means that we have reached that that stage that the only way to shop a medical drama round it's adding a cray cray gimmick
ReplyDeleteThe Official WTF Comment!
ReplyDeleteSounds awful.
ReplyDeleteWTF? Am I the only one who doesnt get it? What the heck is it supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteWhat a weird idea, but I kind of could see how it could work, considering there would be people dealing with life and death on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteLion: I can't stitch him up! -He's my mom's boyfriend (and I hate him).
Dr. Dorothy: You have to stitch him up!!! He may not make you happy, but he makes your mom happy, and besides....It's not our place to judge, right Chief Oz?? ::Dorothy looks up to a box on the wall:: Right, CHIEF OZ???!!!
Oz (on the announcement speaker after shoving 3 snickers in his mouth): Yes. ::crunch, crunch:: Yes, yes. We Do Not Judge. We Just fix.
This hurts my brain.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought - WTF?!?!?
ReplyDeleteMy second - Once upon a time, (former) cheerleader saves the world from vampires and demons sounded crazy, so who knows? Concepts aren't shows, and you never know what it will really be like until you read a script or see an episode, and I do like Elementary.
My third - That's still a really weird premise for a show. Really, really, really weird.
WTF?!?!?! is right.
ReplyDeleteI think "HUH?!?!?!?!" doesn't begin to describe my reaction to this....
ReplyDeleteIt sounds VERY silly..... but I dunno, sometime those things can work... but it's CBS so I don't really have high hope here.
Uhh Saving Hope already did the supernatural/fantasy medical drama and see how that turned out? NBC promptly dropped it. Just because Once Upon a Time is bringing back the old stories doesn't mean this makes any sense...
ReplyDeleteGenius!
