In one of the biggest commitments ever for HBO, the pay cable network has nabbed Westwood, a drama series inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi movie. The project, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Person Of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, producer Jerry Weintraub and Warner Bros. TV, has received a pilot production commitment. Written by Nolan and Lisa Joy (Burn Notice), Westworld is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin. Nolan is set to direct the pilot, which he and Joy will executive produce with Abrams, Weintraub and Bryan Burk. Kathy Lingg is co-executive producing, while Athena Wickam serves as a producer. Warner Bros. TV is producing with Bad Robot, Jerry Weintraub Prods. and Kilter Films.

  1. Personally I wasn't a fan of the movie of course when I saw it a crappy old movie with horrible graphics but even the storyline wasn't good. I guess if they rework the concept it can sortof be like BSG but I'm not looking forward to another android pilot.

  3. Well, I'd give this a chance since it's going to be on HBO, if it was just regular network TV, it'd be a no

  4. I would love to see Bad Robot and JJ Abrams on a network like HBO where the series will have more artistic freedom and less network interference!

That said, I'm not sold on the premise honestly, but a good cast would win me over swiftly.

  5. Wow! Bad Robot on a Cable Network + Jonas Nolan (again) and based on something from Michael Crichton. I'm sold. Always wanted to see how they would fair with an above PG14 rating and not having to fight the networks so hard.

  6. JJ really love sci fi. I mean no one made more successful sci fi tv shows in last 20 years(2 decades)Abrams and Nolan are new sci fi kings. I love them both. Pure brain and intelligence. And nOlan scripts are so good. He is best Abrams writer so far.

  7. Well, they were sort of the original cyborgs. Like a prototype. They started to get emotions almost. I hated the sequel movie, Futureworld. It was awful. I hope this will be much better than that.

  8. I have not seen this movie.... Having said that I think even if the premise is a little shaky, the people involved so far are working on this project's favour.
