I knew before even reading a simgle comment that Dean Winchester fans would be cropping up all over the place. Personally I think both Winchesters and Cas and any other character on SPN have very good storylines and way more time dedicated to their characters than on practiacally any other show out there given that they are basically the only cast members of the show. Its on shows with larger casts where characters can easily be over looked and end up lingering in the background/on the fringes of other storylines.
I picked 'Other', because Castle's Lanie Parish isn't on that list. I and a lot of other Castle fans, is in acute desperate need of a good story line for her, since we know NOTHING about her and her past. I am so hoping for an episode that puts Lanie in the spotlight in season 6. We need to know a little more about her.
- Winston Bishop: He's been on the back burner most of the time in S2, he's become the token black guy of the show. - Ruby: Horowitz & Kitsis made a huge mistake by dumping her storyline. It only serves them right that Meghan decided to leave. - Amy Ferrah Fowler: Everytime she appears, it's in relation to Sheldon. I get that they are a couple but she is becoming obnoxiously clingy. - Jemery Gilbert: If he's just gonna be used as a medium to talk to Bonnie's ghost in S5, I'd rather have him remain dead.
Other: - April Kepner from Grey's Anatomy - Carol Peletier from The Walking Dead - Carmen Luna from Devious Maids - Snow from OuaT - Everyone from Glee
I would say Ruby of OUAT, but the actress has left the show... So maybe Emma from OUAT. That love triangle they are hinting at for her character is many things, but definitely not a good story.
I went with PLL ... It is getting stale with the same old format. Each season they add something that distracts from the main mystery .. ( who murdered Mia, who killed wilden
I believe SPN have awesome storylines. I voted the Grayson because that's the only show from the list. I would've went other but its hard to pin point especially when screening is quite different here.
Yeah -- Espo. Castle is in danger of letting the Caskett storyline derail everything. The danger isn't so much the existence story line -- it would be silly to think the show isn't about that -- it's that it's pretty much run its course. This season is a great opportunity to put all that on the back burner for a little while and focus on how Castle works with Espo and Ryan. Still, that arc probably won't last longer than a few episodes unless they can come up with something compelling.
Juliette on Grimm. She spent a lot of time in a coma, and most of her time on the show not knowing what's going on. Now that she's in the know, she should make herself useful.
Other: I don't really care for any of the shows listed and based on the biggest tv buzz this week: Christina Yang. If Sandra Oh is about to depart Grey's then I hope she has a fantastic storyline on the horizon because she's a tremendous pleasure to watch in an otherwise somewhat pedestrian series.
Alex from Greys Anatomy. They introduced such a good back story in the episode where Bailey met his family, then just seem to ignore it and the only story he has had is romantic ones.
Of these choices? I'd go with Winston on New Girl. I feel like he's just background noise at this point, or silly comic relief. I hope the reappearance of Damon Wayans Jr. helps in giving him some more substantial stuff this year.
I completely agree with you. I think that both of the boys (ducks flying projectiles) are utilized very well on the show, and so is Cas. My only complaint is that the writers can't seem to allow all three of their characters to operate well within the SAME storyline. Here's hoping that gets better this year, because scrolling down to see scores of "When is Dean going to get HIS time?" or "Surprise surprise, Sam is nowhere to be found in these promo photos." kills me every week.
Agreed. I found myself getting increasingly bored last season, and when Castle proposed, I found myself yelling, "You'd BETTER say no!" The other characters really fell by the wayside. And Espo and Ryan, especially their friendship with Castle and Beckett SEPARATELY are one of my absolute favorite parts of the show.
Out of the options here, from the shows I watch, I disagree with basically all of them to be honest. Daniel is a very interesting character on Revenge with plenty of storyline all the time, I am confused why he is here. Winston on New Girl I suppose could have more screetime, but he is by far the least interesting character on the show IMO, so I am fine with the amount he gets - plus, he gets a fairly decent amount, I think it is just the storylines that aren't so good. But I have gotten around to like him more this season. Amy is one of the characters with more storyline on The Big Bang Theory, I disagree completely with her here. Jeremy had a lot of storyline this year on TVD (except for when he was dead but that's well... normal). I would agree with Jeremy in former seasons, not this year with the hunter storyline. Esposito gets a lot of screentime on Castle for a supporting player - both him and Ryan have increased their presence on the show since the beggining, which I am fine with, and both have their occasional centric. Why want more? They are interesting, but Castle and Becket are more interesting, I think the balance is perfect as it is, I would not like more focus on him. As for Mozzie, please do not give him more storylines. I think he is great as sidekick but everytime they give him a centric episode or too big of a role I am bored, I cannot care for him that way - I understand why some people would want it, but personally I don't. The one I would absolutely agree with would be Ruby on OUAT, but since the actress is not a series regular anymore it is hard to vote for her, but I would agree 100% with her. I would also like to see David more front and center like he was at the beginning of season 2 while we are on it.
I disagree with almost all of this... - Winston: I actually think they served him better this season than last year. At least I grew to like his character more this year. I don't think he's as interesting as the others though, so I think he works better in a supporting capacity, but even so, he was given enough own storyines. - Agree 100% on Ruby. - I disagree with Amy. She is also featured quite often in her relationship with the girls, recently we even had her meeting Raj's girlfriend. I think she is one of the characters with the most storyline to be honest. Bernardette would need it more than her IMO. - As for Jeremy, maybe you're right about season 5, but as far as season 4 was concerned, he had plenty to do (except for when he was dead of course) with the whole hunter storyline. - April had a very busy season IMO. But I guess with Grey's you can make the case for every single character you like lol, because none of them honestly get that much screen time since they are so many - Agree about Carol to some part. I like her but I don't feel the need to explore her background or something front and center. Could work but I am fine with the way it is also - Snow is one of the most covered characters on OUAT. How come you say she didn't have storyline? That is very surprising to me. I would mention David, not Snow.
I agree that Amy has more storylines, but the question is a good storyline. Instead of clinging to Penny and Sheldon, I'd like to see her more as the person she was when she came on the show first. Even for Winston, the point is that his storylines arent so good. Completely forgot to add Harrison btw, totally agree with that one too. Esposito's screentime is fine, again, the question was for a good storyline in the screentime given.
While that is true, that was a major storyline and plot point during season 2, I wouldn't qualify as lack of storyline IMO. As far as Grimm is concerned, I would like to see the captain more front and center (even though he was very much covered in season 2, but i would like even more)
Why do you say that? The show is about the relationships between these characters. She is often featured in her relationship with Sheldon, true, but she is also widely featured in her almost equally iconic relationship with Penny and, to a lesser extent, Bernardette. Later this season, her relationship with Raj was also explored when she was the one that met his girlfriend. I don't get this complaint.
Well, the question was about characters in need of a good storyline, not a storyline in general. That's why I picked these characters because I didn't like their storylines this season.
You know, if they gave Dean the storylines and gave Sam POV (the show has been Dean's POV since season 4), I think everyone would be happy, Sam fans and Dean fans.
Yeah, youre right. Someone else also commented that as an answer to me below. I took the question more as a "who needs more screentime" kind of question, but if we are speaking of good storylines, it is more subjective and I can somehow understand your points.
Of those on the list, then I would say Mozzie although I am pretty pleased with how is is utilized on the show. Still, a little more Mozzie is a good thing. Really I think Diana and Jones deserve better story lines on White Collar. Off the list, Dean Winchester from Supernatural and Laurel from Arrow spring to mind. Dean spent most of his post-Purgatory time in season 8 making dinner and playing nursemaid. It would be nice if he got a story line that did not revolve around nursing Sam or acclimating Cas this year. Laurel needs a complete character overhaul and something more interesting than being one leg of a love triangle to make me care whether she lives or dies,
I also think Wu from Grimm needs more screen time. Let him in on the secret and make him part of Team Grimm. On Defiance, I would love to see more Tommy back story and Revolution would improve if they gave a better story line to anyone but the Mathesons. I don't care who it is as long as I see Mathesons less. However the people who really need a story is Paige on Graceland and Dodee on Under the Dome. Paige's a main character and we have yet to learn anything about her and quite frankly I am always surprised that Dodee is still alive when she pops on screen. She's barely heard of at all. Quite frankly, I wish they would switch her with Junior. I would love respite from him for awhile.
I'd say the storyline Daniel from Revenge needs is "death". I think 2 years of repeatedly flip-flopping in his loyalties between his mother and father and being blindly manipulated by Emily is enough. The guy has no spine and no agency. He's just a tool being used by others.
Caroline is definitely my favorite female character. She's the most realistic character(minus the vampire bit) While she started out annoying with the whole foot in mouth personality, it's now a bit endearing. Elena being my least favorite, followed by Bonnie.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Dean Winchester, Supernatural
ReplyDeleteHa, my first thought was Sam.
ReplyDeleteSam already has all the storylines. Dean needs a storyline, Sam needs friends.
ReplyDeleteI knew before even reading a simgle comment that Dean Winchester fans would be cropping up all over the place. ReplyDeleteAria from PLL needs a good storyline. I admit her character is the most boring among the liars.

ReplyDeleteIf you call throwing Sam's character and 7 years of canon under the bus a storyline, then guess I would agree with you.
ReplyDeleteNone to be honest.
ReplyDelete- Winston Bishop: He's been on the back burner most of the time in S2, he's become the token black guy of the show.
ReplyDelete- Ruby: Horowitz & Kitsis made a huge mistake by dumping her storyline. It only serves them right that Meghan decided to leave.

ReplyDeleteDanny on Teen Wolf. I really want a full story with Danny.
ReplyDeleteI would like to say Connie Britton for Nashville, but the ending of the first season can be a good game changer for the character, so... :)
ReplyDeletebonnie bennet-TVD. She doesn't even need a big story line, just some recognition and a thank you from her friends will make me satisfied.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, mainly because I'm bored of Dean just being a cheerleader.
ReplyDeleteHaha yes!
ReplyDeleteI believe SPN have awesome storylines. I voted the Grayson because that's the only show from the list. I would've went other but its hard to pin point especially when screening is quite different here.

ReplyDeleteDavid from Once Upon a Time.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is background furniture at this point.
Lanie (castle)
ReplyDeleteLike why the phobia of commitment?
ReplyDeleteJuliette on Grimm. She spent a lot of time in a coma, and most of her time on the show not knowing what's going on. Now that she's in the know, she should make herself useful.
ReplyDeleteAmy Far
ReplyDeleteAmy Farrah Fowler. We had 3 storylines with her on S5 that were awesome, and nothing on S6 except the episode where she was sick.
ReplyDeleteShe's a great character and S6 had her reduced to "Sheldon's girlfriend" again, and she is much more than that.

ReplyDeleteI'd say David and Ruby from Ouat and Caroline on The Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame, cause I love those characters too!
Of these choices? I'd go with Winston on New Girl. I feel like he's just background noise at this point, or silly comic relief. I hope the reappearance of Damon Wayans Jr. helps in giving him some more substantial stuff this year.

ReplyDeleteMozzie he has some really nice stories to tell and a lot of schemes.
ReplyDeleteFrom the list, Ruby (OUAT).
ReplyDeleteI'm bored of Dean period
ReplyDeleteWinston on New Girl...
ReplyDeleteWinston, he is the only one that has nothing going on in New Girl
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly that and more, but the that's the most important thing I want to know.
ReplyDeleteRuby, Daniel, Rico from twisted, Alan they all need a better SL
ReplyDeleteHarison - Scandal!
ReplyDeleteOut of the options here, from the shows I watch, I disagree with basically all of them to be honest. Yeah you are kind of right with Emma. And she has so much potential.

ReplyDeleteI would 100% agree with this in previous seasons. This year I was pretty happy with his material with Jo. And he's my favorite character on Grey's.
ReplyDeleteI actually think the re-introduction of the coach character might have the opposite effect on the WInston character, but we'll see.
ReplyDeleteWell, the question was about characters in need of a good storyline, not a storyline in general. That's why I picked these characters because I didn't like their storylines this season.
ReplyDeleteWinston, definetly.
ReplyDeleteYou know, if they gave Dean the storylines and gave Sam POV (the show has been Dean's POV since season 4), I think everyone would be happy, Sam fans and Dean fans.
ReplyDeleteAria needs too. I don't understand why Daniel is here because this season he was really interesting. He doesn't need a good storyline, he already has.
ReplyDeleteI thought Supernatural was all about Dean at this point, Sam has become just a recurring character.
ReplyDeleteFair enough, you are right, I took it more as a "who needs more screentime kind of promo", but you are right.
ReplyDeleteYeah, youre right. Someone else also commented that as an answer to me below. I took the question more as a "who needs more screentime" kind of question, but if we are speaking of good storylines, it is more subjective and I can somehow understand your points.

ReplyDeleteOther - George Tucker Hart of Dixie. He's so boring on that show I think I'll start fast forwarding through his parts.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. I hope it's not the case, but I could see it happening.
ReplyDeleteJude from the fosters. Even though i hate the kid I still want him to have a good storyline
ReplyDeleteLanie or Martha on Castle for sure.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind the key words of the topic at hand.
