    Both in season one, they were together in the family business and the chemistry was there from the start. My favorite season is still 4 with the addition of Cas and the Angels but season one is what hooked me and added 2 more boys to my family.

    for me it's both in season 1. back when they acted like brothers and just had fun together. also like season 2 and 3,

    So let's see... For Dean you have (in order of seasons): The good soldier Dean, Deathwish Dean, In denial about mortality Dean, Tortured Dean, Free will conquers all Dean, Extra resentful Dean, Extra obsessed Dean, and More resentful than ever Dean.


    For Sam there's: Rebellious son Sam, Mystical Sam, Guilt ridden Sam, Drug addict Sam, In the 12-step program Sam, Soulless Sam, Mental ward Sam, and Sacrificial Sam.


    Drug addict Sam was the most interesting and Free will Dean was the most character revealing.

    I voted season one for both, because after being instantly pulled in by them and their relationship, I loved watching how it all played out.

    Dean was wonderful as the bad-ass hunter yet tender big brother who finally got his little brother back with him, and Sam's emotional roller-coaster journey to the moment when he tells his father that there are things more important than killing the YED, such as keeping Dean safe was so engaging.

    The first season of any show tends to be my favourite for I just love getting to know the characters and in this case the fascinating Winchesters. :)

    I like 1, 3, 4 and 7 Dean the best! But could vote only for one season so voted for 1!
    Sam was great in Season 2, 5, 6 and 8! Voted for 6, the soul-less and Lucifer Sam!

    I picked S2 for both. I flipped between 1 and 2 on Dean. I didn't actually begin to LIKE Sam until mid-season two, so ... yeah.

    That would be interesting to compare them by the changes they've gone through. I know in my life (which doesn't include demons or monsters) I've experienced things that have profoundly changed me. Wonder what a steady diet of clawed, fanged things would do.

    Ha! I'm only negative over season eight, angels, unecessary canon-trashing, brother hating and bad writers; but if you prefer-

    Same here, but the funny thing is there were many eps that I liked, just the over all cloud of Sam NOT LOOKING, made the whole season bad for me.

    Probably for the same reason a lot of people said they liked season 3 Sam the most, even though Sam mostly sat on the sidelines that season. The question was about the way the character was presented, not how active a storyline the character had. Post-Purgatory Dean got a lot of positive responses.

    For Sam I was torn between seasons 1 and 2. His character's identity was never more defined than in season 1, but in season 2 Sam softened a little. But I voted for season 1. I was also torn between seasons 1 and 2 for Dean. Dean was fun in season 1, but he was also still too much of a daddy's boy. It was in season 2 that he started to break away and grow, so I voted for season 2.

    Season One for both! I'm a huge fan of the first season. That said, I loved them both in Seasons 2 and 3. Neither got on my nerves in the first three seasons.
    Sam tried my patience in S4. Dean did the same in S5. They were back "on track" (even Soulless!Sam IMO) in S6. I had no problem w/either brother in S6. Dean was too depressed for my taste in S7. Early S8 Sam was a pod person and an all around jerk. Dean, in S8, was fine until he was OOC and blaming Sam for being soulless.
