    The thing is: As much as I loved them, neither Buffy nor Angel were purely "vampire" shows. On the other hand, I was always sorry that Moonlight didn't get a longer run. So, as a "pure" vampire play, I'm gonna vote for Moonlight...for what it could have been.

    Buffy and Angel, just because of Spike and 3rd Blood Ties and if you have not read the BT books pick them up. This was cancelled to soon. Really wanted to vote for Moonlight also and I will never forgive CBS for cancelling that show. Both ML and BT came out a year to soon, and got axed just before the vampire craze started.

    TB seems to be overdoing it with all the mythology for the last 2 seasons, but it's still better than TVD (at least TB still makes some sense).
    Moonlight and Blood Ties were also good.

    If you're going to watch it, a little word of advice (if you don't mind): Buffy S1 is kinda weak. But it's short (only 12 eps), so don't give up, it gets better with S2.

    It also may give an indication of the age of many of these voters. I have nieces and a nephew who have never seen Buffy or Angel. Their teens and early 20's. And not interested in watching anything they consider 'old'. :-(

    Yeah, I know, but it doesn't have quite the complete assortment of all possible demons that Buffy does. I would put Buffy in the same category as Supernatural. In that case, my ranking would be Buffy ahead of Supernatural...and I'd have rto think about third place.

    Agree. Neither Buffy or Angel or Blood Ties were purely vampire shows. That's one of the
    things I liked about those shows. You never knew what you were dealing with this week or the next, but at the same time, vamps were always present.
    Moonlight was great. I'm sorry too it only lived one season. What about Forever Night?
    When TVD started it was great. Even S2 with the wolves and the witches was great. I loved it! But with S3 it got worse with each passing week. We were running in circles (they made plans how to kill Klaus, they failed, made new plans, failed again, …) and most of the shit JP came up with made no sense. She was just making things up as they popped up in her head, without following any rules. And when an explanation was needed, the best she came up with was: magical loophole or natural loophole. IF we got an explanation. We still don't know how or why Hayley got pregnant. Ridiculous.
    In Buffy and Angel even magic followed some rules. JW did a good job. JP totally ruined the show. Call me a dreamer, but I still hope they replace her with someone who can actually save the show from cancelation. Is Joss available?

    I loved the original take it had on Vampires!
    It was slow at times, but the story made up for it IMO. Too bad there is only 6 episodes and most people know of it from the craptastic movie with Milla Jovovich! XD

    You have hit the nail on the head, I did not really get into TVD until I think ep 5 when Elena found out they were vamps, but then it was great the rest of s1 & 2, has gone downhill fast from there. The only original I liked was Elijah, Hayley is a neg from the get go and a baby???

    The answer is ALWAYS going to be Buffy. Angel really grew on me, too - I think he was a lot more likable in his spin off. I also used to enjoy True Blood, but I've missed the last three seasons or so.

    First let's start with Dark Shadows (Dan Curtis, 1966). Jonathan Frid played Barnabas Collins one of the "Best TV Vampires" ever IMHO. He made Dark Shadows a instant hit! Next is a "Oldie, but a Goodie".............Forever Knight! The series hero is Nick Knight a 800 yr old vampire who is now a police detective in 1990's Toronto. Knight is seeking redemption after centuries of living as a vampire (evil) by bringing to justice "Criminals and Murders". Knight's arch nemesis (Season 1 & 2)is Lucian LuCroix. Knight's sire (maker), LuCroix was a "Roman Era" general who was "Brought a Cross" during the Pompeii eruption (making LuCroix one of the oldest vampires in the series). LuCroix (played by Nigel Bennett) was one of the "Darkest/Evilest" vampire lords on TV who didn't wear the mantle of "Dracula"! The next one we can agree or disagree on..........BLADE: the series! Jill Wagner aka "Mercury Girl" as Krista Starr and her storyline were the best part of this series. Jessica Gower as the "Vampire Femme Fatale Enforer" and rival nemesis to Krista Starr was also another high point in the series. The main villain Marcus Van Sciver played perfectly by Neil Jackson is a "Complex Monster" with well written lairs to construct a interesting character. These are my three chooses 1) Dark Shadows, 2) Forever Knight, and 3) Blade: the series (two of these aren't even on the list), in this order and I'm sticking with them. 4 A SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE, I am Nobody!!!

    Disagree. Spike was the very best villain Buffy ever had and then they went and ruined him by running with the stupid chip story line simply because they didn't have Angel anymore. He went from awesome slayer killer to whimpering, self-pity puppy. Ugh!

    The vampire genre has never been hotter then it's right now. There tons of novels, movies out there but in the last thirty to forty years there has also many television shows Over the last thirty plus years there have been a lot of vampire genre television shows starting in the sixties with the gothic soap Dark Shadows starring Jonathon Frid as Barnabas Collins, Then in 1979 NBC gave fans a show entitled Cliffhangers and inside that show was a 20 minute serial call The Curse of Dracula starring Micheal Nouri as Dracula it was this short lived series that really sparked my interest in the genre as a child. Then in the late 80's early 90's CBS tried their hand with vampires starting with a movie called Nick Knight and later a television series called Forever Knight. Forever Knight last only one season on CBS as part of their late night line up called Crime Time after Prime Time. CBS cancelled it after one season but it was brought back for a second season in syndication because of the fan campaign to save it. It was brought back for a third season because of another fan campaign which also gave it a new home on the cable network USA which is now owned by NBC-Universal. Sadly it never got a a fourth season but that show garnered a fanbase that is still around today. Forever Knight was the first to have a email discussion list which is still in operation, and it also was given three books based on the series and it's characters, two soundtracks.



    I've watched just about every vampire show there is and I've loved them all but out of them all Moonlight starring Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles and Jason Dohring is my all time favorite because it was solely about vampires. Moonlight only lasted one season on CBS 2007/2008 but it still remains a favorite among fans. Trevor Munson and Ron Koslow gave us a modern day twist to the vampire myth as well the unique love story between a vampire & a human (Mick St. John & Beth Turner) Moonlight was based on Co-Creator & Co-Executive Producer Trevor Munson's Novel Angel Of Vengeance about a vampire named Mick Angel. Like Forever Knight Moonlight garnered a loyal fanbase that fought for a second season with letters and email and charity blood drives but a second season was not given and many fans from the show still hold out hope for more someday but I also enjoy The CW's The Vampire Diaries & HBO's True Blood and I have to say I'm looking forward to The Originals on the CW this fall and NBC's Dracula also coming this fall. I also enjoyed Jim Parriot's Forever Knight, Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer & it's spinoff, Ange The Seriesl; As well as Fox's Kindred The Embraced, and of course Lifetime's Blood Ties as well as the BBC hit Being Human, & SyFy's Verison of Being Human. Other two vampire shows that is also worth mentioning is the gothic soap Dark Shadows( The original as well as the remake) and ABC's gotic soap Port Charles.

    It seems strange to put in The Originals when we've only seen the pilot (though I suspect that I am going to like the show very much...ELIJAH!...ahem...). I had to go with Buffy, Vampire Diaries, and True Blood (in that order) though the first and last seasons of Angel were very good. Question: where is the "best TV vampire" poll? ;)

    I remember that series! It was based on White Wolf Publisher's VAMPIRE: The Masquerade RPG/LARP. Sadly the series deviated to far from the source material to tap into the "Masquerade Fandom" to be a successs; to much about the "World of Darkness" and the vampire clans background story changed/lost! 4 A SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE, I am Nobody!!!

    I highly recommend checking out both series as well, but disagree that Buffy season one was weak. I thought it was awesome.


    But, all in all, its personal preference and a new viewer should go in with an open mind and come to their own conclusions as to the shows strengths and weaknesses.


    That said, Buffy did do something many shows don't do. it got stronger. Where as most shows get weaker over their run. At least to me. That's where I am with Vampire Diaries. I was so disappointed with this past season I'm not sure I'll be watching next season.

    The British series! Another awesome one. Unfortunately the broadcast I saw on Am.television *years* ago, had horrible audio so it was really difficult to hear some of the dialog (and consequently) follow the story. I got a hold of the DVDs and it was indeed fantastic.

    What I loved about Dark Shadows was the fact that when faced with failing ratings the writers (seemingly) decided WTF Let's do something original! Also, agree with you about Forever Knight. LaCroix was an awesome character (and radio host :) Could not watch Blade, unfortunately. I wanted to like it but they just couldn't engage me.

    The order I watched and Like: Moonlight > Angel > Buffy > The Vampire Diaries > Being Human(US)(I'm sorry but (UK) can go to hell after they killed off the immortal characters... same in Misfits...)Haha what's Vampire Knight doing here that was good to I guess for the Vampire mythology.

    Yeah, but Buffy was more vampires than anything else. While SPN has a lot of demons, it has all kinds of other creatures too, very varied, and vampires aren't on SPN all that much.

    Yes, but Buffy and Angel were still more like SPN than they were like those other shows listed above, because both Buffy/Angel and SPN are about heros who are on a quest to actively hunt down and root out evil. The typical vampire show, on the other hand, is just about vampires living their lives ( or non-lives, if you will) and trying fighting off enemies as they come up. In my opinion, Buffy is really more of a superhero show than it is a vampire show.

    I loved Ben Bass in Forever Knight, he was so hot as vampire Vachon. I was really surprised that Moonlight did not come back for a season 2 after winning the PCA for Best New series. Don't see it ever coming back with Alex, but I would watch it with Jason as the lead, he was awesome as Josef. And I think that was the best role Alex has had even over H50

    I watch Twilight when I want a laugh, bad writing, bad acting, to me none of the vamps are good looking. Liked TB season 1 & 3, they would have to give me the DVD for season 2, it was nothing but group orgy, have not cared for it since 3.

    TVD has gotten to be a big disappointment, don't know if that is because Kevin was working on other things, but the only original I like is Elijah, so he will have to be front and center of The Originals or I will not watch. Not crazy about the baby story.

    Yeah, you're right. My analogy isn't perfect. I thought of those other examples too, after I had posted my comment. Still, Buffy is different. For one thing, Buffy herself, as the main protagonist isn't a vampire. Vampires -- with the exception of Angel and later Spike -- are bad guys that Buffy slays with with the help of her "Slayer powers." She's a super hero, saving the world from potential doom. Those other shows (Moonlight, Blood Ties, etc.) are more like vampire versions of police procedurals. Don't get me wrong. I loved them all. But I'm sticking with my original opinion: Buffy is more than just a vampire show.

    Well, maybe weak was not the right word. It was good, but not that good. For my taste they were too much focused on the "monster of the week" and the story, the eps, were barely connected. Also the group dynamics became better after S1. The reason is, I think, that they didn't have too big plans for the show cause the prognosis was bad (because of the movie) and no one believed the show would live past S1.

    Exactly! With the years the show became better, stronger, as you put it. Most shows are losing their drive with the years.

    Please, don't get me start on TVD! It was the best show in years. For 2 seasons. But what JP did with S3 and 4 … She completely ruined the show. Don't get me wrong, some things from S3 and 4 are great. But the story develops too slow, in S3 we were running in circles and half of the shit JP comes up with makes absolutely no sense. She thinks, oh, I think we should do this, and she does is, without caring if it makes sense or not. If Joss changed some rules on Buffy or Angel (for example the rule that there is only one slayer), he at least came up with an explanation. Even magic followed some rules on Buffy and Angel. It doesn't on TVD. And JPs explanation: magical loophole, or natural loophole. That only means that she's too stupid to come up with some explanation or set up some rules she could follow. Before Lucas started with Star wars, he set up rules about planets, ships, sabers, … That's how it's done!!!

    Same here. Elijah is probably the only sane member of the family. I also began to like Becca. But I still have my problems at how she was mocking Elena after she killed her.
    I just want Klaus dead. I just hope now, that he's gone, TVD may find his way back to the great show it was in S1 and 2. But I have my doubts if JP keeps on running it. About Originals: I will give it a try (Klaus in therapy should be worth watching it. And the reason I decided to give it a try), but I doubt I'll stay with it.
    Hey. I've heard that the cast of TVD signed for 6 season and they all said they won't sign again after S6 is finished. What is this telling you? Even the cast hates what the show became. Too bad JP is too stupid to see it.

    I think there is hardly a horror/sci-fi/vamp show that could beat Buffy. Impressive, if you consider that Buffys prognosis was that it wouldn't live past S1.

    Jaz sem bolj na fantastiko in grozljivke. Buffy generacija:)
    CW začne jeseni z The 100 in The Tomorrow People. Originals bom sicer testirala, ampak dvomim, da bom ostala. Vsaj ne po katastrofi v katero se je spremenil TVD.
    Med najbolj aktualnimi zame so zdaj, poled Dexterja, Game of Thrones, Teen Wolf, Big Bang Theory, Lost Girl, občasno kaki CSI, pa Under The Dome. Ljubim Kinga

    Game of thrones si prebrala knjige al sam serijo gledaš? Js pa kr dost različnih stvari gledam js sn pa mal generacija za Buffy zato jo še pa tut nisn pogledo se pa mnde že kr doug spraulam na računalniku jo mam že ene 3 lete :) Drgač pa js tut najrajš gledam Dexterja, Game of Thrones, pa kake zgodovinske so tut kr dobre npr. Vikings, Borgias, Da Vincis Demons, Spartacus

    Serijo. Za knjige še ni bilo časa.
    Buffy sem gledala že nešteto krat, pa še vedno ni dovolj. Vsaj enkrat na leto grem skozi. Pa Angel enako. Charmed ne tako pogosto, sem pa tudi že večkrat videla. Ah, 10-20 let nazaj so še serije bile boljše. Da o filmih ne začnem. No, bo pa vsaj letos prišlo nekaj relativno novih serij. Relativno, ker smo večinoma že vse videli. The 100 - so temo obdelali že v več filmih (pa klub temu še verjetno najbolj originalno med serijami). Tomorrow People zgleda kot remake Heroes. Almost human me spominja na I Robot. Dracula - morem res komentirat? Under the Dome je po knjigi S.Kinga. Mislim, da že 10 let niso nič kaj originalnega spravili na platna ali TV. Žalostno.
    Borgias, prvo sezono. Vikings še nisem, je pa zgledalo zanimivo na trailerju, tako da verjetno bom pogledala.

    Charmed sn že pogledo pa je res fajn. Na The 100 še bomo kr čakal je midseason drgač The Tommorow People bo za pogledat, Almost Human pa Dracula mi zgleda bol tak. V lanski sezoni serij sn redno gledo sam dve nove serije in sicer Arrow pa The Following upam de bo letos kej bolš gelde kakovosti serij pa de nebojo ukinal kej kar je res dober pa ukinjeo sam zaradi gledanosti

    Res, da ni bila S6 najboljša, je bila dobra. Collin je igral odlično, highlight pa je bil, ko je Deb zasačla Dexterja. S5 mi je bila genialna. Bila sem srečna, da je Dexter končno našel nekoga, ki ga je sprejel ko je. Škoda, da je Lumen šla.
    Najboljša sta mi Dex in Deb. Če ubijejo Deb, bom jaz nekoga! Hočem, da je happy end za oba.
    Prehitro v S5? V knjigah Deb že v prvi knjigi zve!

    Ja domnevam da se je ustvarjalcem serije zdel prehitro ker ena zadnjih scen v peti sezoni ko sta Dexter pa Lumen za tisto zaveso pa jih Deb dobi pol jima pa reče da naj zbežita je bla po mojem namenjena temu da bi Deb zvedla za Dexterja usaj js si to tak razlagam, drgač pa vem da že u prvi knjigi zve sam knjige so ful drugačne ko pa serija u knjigah tut Brian Moser preživi pa men osebno je serija bolša ko knjige

    Ne vem, ali je bilo mišljeno, da bi Deb na koncu pete izvedla. Možno. Pustila pa jim je pobegnit, ker je videla DVDje in je vedela, kaj so Jordan in kolegi delali. Kdo nebi pustil morilcev teh psihopatov pobegnit? Nisem še vseh knjig prebrala, tako da težko rečem. Mi pa je všeč, da sta v knjigah Astor in Cody tudi psihota in jih Dexter uči. Je pa dobro, ta tega niso uporabili za serijo, ker sta bila froca premlada, da bi igrala takšne vloge.

    Jaz sovražim brat v slo. Obupni prevodi. Najraje gledam in berem v nemščini. Če pe ne dobim v nem, pa v ang.
    Meni je prav vredu, da se le do določene mere držijo knjig. Marsikdo nebi čakal leta da bi videl vse sezone serije, če lahko v nekaj dneh ali tednih prebere vse knjige. Če je isto. Če pa se razlikuje, pa moraš gledat vsa leta. In od tega živijo. Na ja TVD ne bo več dolgo, če bo kvaliteta serije še dalje tako padala.

    Men je pa v redu v slo.nemško pa neznam sam angleško. Ja sej mal se more razlikovat knjiga pa serija/film to je res sam Dexter so knjige res čist drugač ko pa serija za TVD pa nevem kake so knjige ker sn sam prvo začeu brat pa mi ni blo tak fajn, serija je ok. Prve dve sezone so ble odlične, tretja sezona je bla dobra do polovice (dokler je biu Stephan Ripper) pol pa bol tak, četrto sezono sn se pa že mal silo gledat je kakovost zlo padla, drgač se mi pa zdi de bo TVD še kr dolgo na tv ker jim gledanost nič ne pada kljub temu da kakovost serije je padla, bomo vidl če se bojo kej popraul letos, me pa zanima kak bo kej Originals

    Harry Potterja sem probala brati v slo, pa je bilo grozno. Ena imena so prevajali, ena niso, neketeri prevodi so bili čisto mimo vsekani, ... Odvisno sicer, kdo prevaja, ampak nekak so mi nem in ang bližje.
    TVD knjige so čisto vredu. Serija je bila super v prvih dveh sezonah. Nekaj v tretji in četrti je bilo vredu, v glavnem pa mi nista bile všeč. Časovno je preveč razvlečeno. 2 sezoni/2 leti za eno leto v MF. Polovica tretje sezone je bila okoli Klausa (kako ga ubit, pa jim ni uspelo, pa so spet nekaj naklepali, pa jim ni uspelo, ...), pa vidi se, da si JP sproti nekaj zmišljuje (recimo vedno najde razlog, da obdrži njenega dragega Klausa; da je rabu Elenino kri za hibride, da je vse odgovore iskal v MF, pol se je naenkrat pojavil zdravilo ,...), kaj sploh nima smisla. Sploh ne sledi nobenim pravilom, pa se izgovarja na naravne in magične luknje in pravila in posebnosti, ... ženska ni sposobna najti pametne razlage in ni sposobna slediti nekim pravilom.

    S Harryem sn js začeu brat ko je prišla prva knjiga vn je bla to tut moja prva malo daljša knjiga ki sem jo prebrau. V angleščini sn začeu brat kasnej sedmo knjigo od Harrya sn prebrau v ang ker nisn hoto tak doug čakat na prevod. Kar se tiče JP se pa strinjam da ni sposobna in da bi jo mogl zamenjat. Četrta sezona se je začela v redu sploh nov lik Connor Jordan lovec na vampirje mi je biu kul pa tist z Jeremyem pa tetovažami pa to pol ko so Connorja ubil je šlo pa sam navzdol in je blo vedno slabš

    To da bo Klaus na terapiji pa prvič slišim, zna bit zanimivo men je sicer bolši lik Elijah in me bol zanima kako zgodbo bojo kej za njega napisal js bom tut prvih par delov pogledo pol se bom pa odločo če bom spremlo al ne TVD pa če se do konca pete sezone ne popravijo verjetno nebom več gledo. Ej dej če hočeš me lahka dodaš na FB sej mam isto ime pa priimek ko tu, si prva oseba iz slovenije ko lahka takle razpraulam o serijah pa knjigah z njo na dougo in široko :)

    Ne vem, če bo na terapiji. En nov lik te serije je študentka psihologije in zgleda, da bo Klaus zainteresiran. Zato se vedno hecam, da bo šel na terapijo. Saj ne, da bi mu škodlo.
    Elijah je tudi moj favorit. Edini nepsiho v familij. Žalostno. Becca se je malo popravila, kaj me veseli.
    Nisem na FB, sorry. Lahko pa ustvarim gmail za kiaro. sem itak že večkrat mislila. z eno iz finske sma si preko spoilerja dopisovali in prišle na 80 postov!

    Hahaha sej mi je zakon ko pomislim da Klaus leži na kauču u pisarni psihoatra pa razlaga o traumah iz otroštva pa da je zato tak psiho :) Elijah je men biu vedno dober lik tak skriunostn pa izstopa v vsaki sceni Rebeka mi je šla na začetku res na žiuce pol se mi je pa nekot prikupla zdej mi je pa ok. Gmail pa lahka ustvariš ja pa napiš naslou kr sem ker se že doug nisn z enim takle meno o serija o TVD pa sploh še nikol ker noben ko ga tak poznam ne gleda, Dexterja gleda par kolegov to je pa tut to

    Ja. Mesece nazaj, ko so objavili da bo v igri študentka psihologije sem komentirala, da si predstavljam Klausa na kavču nekako tako: "Veš, dohtarca, res nisem kriv, da sem psihopat in množični morilec. Starši me nikoli niso meli zares radi. Foter je vedno mene krivil, da se je mati dol dala z volkodlakom"
    Meni je bilo za Becco vseeno. Zasovražla sem jo, ko je ubila Eleno, pol pa se norčevala "No, če te prvič nisem vidla umret, te bom zdaj" Pa norčevala se je, ko je Alaric umrl. Je pa uspela v tej sezoni pokazat drugo stran, kar se mi je zdelo vredu. Je pa bila delno obupno napisana. Najprej je bila z Stefanom, pol je v S3 bla nora na Matta, pol se je z Stefanom dol dala in Matta ni omenla, zdaj je bla spet nora na Matta, ... Res, jaz bi 3/4 producentov in piscev te oddaje odpustla!
    Na kiaro sem probala več variant, pa je vse zavrnu (češ, da je oddano) ti pa dam tega: dru147@gmail.com
    Ja, tu pri nas je težko najt koga, ker traja leto ali dve da pride na nemško televizijo, na našo pa menda kar polovica serij ne pride. Saj ne vem če je TVD sploh na slo. programu. Tudi za Dexterja ne vem, je pa bolj vrjetno.

    Very difficult poll since I've seen more than 3 of these. Had to go with Buffy, Angel and Being Human (US) (should have been 2 entries). I loved Moonlight and I watch Vampire Diaries obsessively but Angel and Being Human are definite favourites and Buffy beats out Vampire Diaries so that is my logic and I'm sticking with it!

    I took a class in writing horror stories. What we were taught, and so many writers forget and/or ignore, is that you create your story's internal rules and stick to them. You can make up whatever rules (sort of) for your story that you want but, within the world of your story you stick to those rules.


    I'm going to stop now. :-) I think this may constitute getting you started. :-D

    I never took classes. But in my early teen years I wrote a story. About 40 pages. I was making things up as I wrote it (kinda like JP is doing with the show). Years later, when I read it again it was horrible cause it was obvious (even to me, and I wrote it, so I knew what was going on inside my head when I wrote it), that there are no rules. So, what did I do? I used it as concept. I took several weeks for research and setting rules and I wrote it again. Much better now.

    And that, my dear JP is, how it's done. 1. Research 2. Set rules 3. Write the story

    Christ! I never took classes, it's not my job (not even close) and even I know that.

    I totally agree. Buffy had a few plot-holes so there are a few things that bother me but most of the time they mythology made sense. TVD is just so all over the place with the mythology and retcons and also some of the characters just seem to have lost their initial characterization it's like the show is ship-based instead of character-based which for me ruins a lot of the characters. Buffy always felt to me like it was much more character-based and the characters were much more consistent throughout the series.

    Actually, Riley was initially intended as the "replacement" for Angel in terms of being a new love interest. Spike was meant to replace Cordelia as a source of comic relief and the "truth-teller" of the group. Spike only became the new love interest after the audience failed to connect with Riley, whereas Spike has always been one of the series' most popular characters.

    Another network was in negotiations to pick the series up when Mark Frankel was killed . Since his portrayal of Julian Luna was the top reason that they saw potential in the series they rescinded the offer .

    Sad, but understandable. That was almost 20 years ago. There are plenty of new and talented actors out there. Maybe it would be time to bring the show back.

    Or maybe they should wait for 2 more years. The TVD crew won't be signing new contracts after the 6 years they signed for have passed (isn't it sad? Even the actors hate what the show became) and the show has a lot of talented actors, maybe they could recruit some of them.
