  1. We finally get to see the mini-dome :)
I've been waiting for this episode since the show began!

  2. It looks like an exact miniature version of the dome and is that a black egg?

  3. What I find strange is that the mini-dome is covered in dirt while the big dome is still spanking clean.

  4. Well, who knows how long the mini dome has actually been there....?

    ReplyDelete
  5. well that's an interesting development....

  6. That does it. I'm getting a copy of the book. There have got to be some similarities and at least the egg might be explained.

  7. bust a dragon out of that, or alien whichever is fine, i feel like i wrote this before is his a day jaa vu...

  8. Yep, it's an egg (although the casting sides don't say what kind of egg). Also, according to the casting sides...
    .
    **SPOILER AHEAD**
    .
... the egg lights up and has pink streaks that move down its sides (Hhmm... what does that sound like???)
    .
    **END SPOILER**

  9. The show is going to veer away from the book, especially starting in episode 9. There's no egg in the book.

  10. Well that's why ''the pink stars are falling in lines'' then. But how is it that Angie and Joe are connected to it? Are they guardians of the egg?

Is the dome truly an alien that is nesting to reproduce and then leaves when the process is complete?

  11. I advise against reading read the super lonnnnnnng book if you only want to know about the "minidome" and "egg" because there's little like this in the book. In the book (as far I can as recall) Joe, Norrie (who is his childhood friend not an out of towner) and Benny Drake do look for the "source" of the Dome's "power" - and they find it (or help to find it) and there's something like a "minidome" object (of obvious extraterrestrial origin) but no "egg" as SpoilerFairy says. The show has major deviations from the book - some I really like, some I don't - so with UTD being renewed for S2 I have zero idea if the (disappointing, IMO) "UTD novel" 'reveal' of what is causing the "Dome" will be what is causing the "UTD TV Series Dome". If you're enjoying the series, I suggest just watching the series.

  12. Thanks, Cyana. I have so much reading to catch up on anyway, I think I'll wait on the novel.

  13. What scares me, as a claustrophobic, is what happens as the big dome gets covered in dust? Utter darkness. Yikes!

  14. Very interesting! Curiouser and Curiouser! *G* Particularly as the "vision statement" (posted below by Pascal219) had nothing with an "egg" in the book. I wonder where the show is going with this ... they couldn't count on being renewed for S2 (+?)?

  15. Very interesting theory! "We" already know the (TV) Dome has a connection to Joe and Norrie, a connection presumably the Dome (or who/what's behind the Dome) doesn't want "other people" to know about (Joe and Norrie's filmed experiment a few episodes ago). Norrie did say (when the butterflies were covering part of the Dome) something like maybe the Dome was like a cocoon and when it lifted they'd all be "better people" ... that concept is not too far off the "message" of the book.

  16. Thank you!

If I read it correctly they had to prove their worth to the aliens that were in control over the dome?

From what I've been seeing and reading, the show is altering quite some things from the book. :)

  17. You're welcome. It's difficult to share what I recall of the book specifics without spoiling the book for any one who wants to read it after S1 of UTD is completed. I could agree with what I think is the book's message if the characters had not had to grovel so much to get the "Dome raised". People "UTD" (TV show, I assume, and novel definitely) are going to have to confront their own "demons" and either rise above them and express remorse or ignore them, do worse deeds and "be damned" by them. (Not that the book is that preachy, I'm just using "demons" and "damned" because I watch way too much Supernatural, lol. )
On the show (if your theory is on track), if the "good deeds" done by the populace of Chester's Mill outweighs the "bad deeds" done, after this small slice of humanity is evaluated, the Dome should just "come up" - minus the (annoying) begging in the book - especially as the Dome *seems to have chosen* two "good, innocent" teens as its Avatars, for lack of a better word (but Avatars are 'public embodiments' and the Dome is suggesting that Joe and Norrie not reveal themselves or their connection at the moment. )

  18. Exactly, though I fear Dodee will out them sooner or later. Which is bad for the kids. The promotional photos for the next week episodes makes it seems Julia and Barbie are protecting them and that the townsfolk is fracturing into different factions.

I wonder if Joe and Norrie's secret has already come out and one of the factions is coming for them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I guess the rain from the outside would take care of that.... I would hope....

  20. If Dodee "outs" the kids I don't think it will be malicious rather (I spec) it will because of her techie curiosity - maybe the kids have another more public seizure - and Dodee wants to explore the kids' connection to the Dome.

I sort of agree that the kids secret will come out either near the end of this episode or early in the next episode. If a Joe/Norrie "Cult" springs up this *could* threaten Big Jim's Authority and the Dome *possibly* "shows its power" by taking a life. Which will not endear many of the townspeople to Joe and Norrie - some of the promo pics from 1.08. (This is just a speculation, something - or someone else - may "Challenge Big Jim's Authority", with Ollie Dinsmore as the prime contender).
As you said the promo pics for 1.08 show Barbie digging a hole and likely (as other posters said on the 1.08 promo pics link), he's digging a well so they have a separate supply of water (and Joe tries to catch a chicken in the 1.09 pictures).

The only thing is Norrie isn't in any of the 1.08/1.09 pictures - which doesn't necessarily mean she and Mom Carol (I think Norrie's biomom Alice is one of the deaths in 1.06) aren't in these episodes but maybe Mom Carol is uneasy about letting Barbie and Julia protect Norrie.

  21. A network always makes the deals and talks about renewals way before it actually happens. I can picture them talking about it as soon as the massive worldwide syndication deals took place, which was before the series had its initial US premiere.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You're likely correct. I have only the vaguest notion of how "netlets" like The CW work I/r/t renewals because I only rigorously track CW shows' ratings. I know their business model is somewhat different than the "Big 4" business models, particularly when it comes to renewals. I expect an anticipated drama like UTD pre-sold very well internationally.

  23. All of what you say makes sense in context of the show and were we both think it is heading. I do not really have anything to add and if I could upvote it more than once I would. More people should read it! :)

Oh one thing, it's always possible Norrie got captured by Jim's team and is being held 'prisoner' as they would see her as a way to possibly escape the dome. In my opinion Dodee came across the same way and sounded malicious about it. Though that might have just been me!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Your Norrie-absent-from promo pics theory is much better than mine about Mom Carol just being uneasy about Barbie and Julia's seeming to protect "Joe" (and Norrie) in the promo pics for 1.08. And I've rethought the Dodee -angle: she's maybe not outright malicious but she does have an attitude of "What's in for me?" referring to Barbie's asking her if she could read lips as well as ASL in the "Family Visit" episode. So she could "out" the kids to Big Jim if she thought she would receive some type of "reward" for the info. Which would lead, of course, to the kids being threatened by Big Jim and the townspeople.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe, I think both theories could work to be honest! :)

Yeah, that was my take on Dodee as well. She really wants to get out from under the dome (and who doesn't?), but if that's not possible at least get something from the info. She was quite set against Julia going on air in the second episode too.
