If that is what happens then great but I'm not holding my breath. We'll have to wait and see how the writers play it. I'm just more interested in the feelings of the two people who are directly affected by the video than I am in Jo's hurt.
Even if that's not the case and Jo is only considering her own feelings (which I'll admit is a definite possibility), she's still light years ahead of Lacey in the quality of character department.
i dont think she's being selfish. she's probably jus hurt that thats the way she found out. she's the only 1 who's been there for them all the time, but we'll hav to wait an see how it actually plays out
I am not here for the on going Poor Jo BS . This is about Lacey losing her place and Friends at School and I bet in Town as well this is going to be Hard for Lacey to back as the outcast.
How? Because you like her? How is she light years ahead of Lacey in the quality of character development? How is she so different from the Jo we got in the premier ? Anywho Jo will probably spend most of the episode focused on how betrayed she feels instead of trying to understand how her best friend will feel about being filmed during an intimate privet moment. I will never understand how the writers thought this was a good idea, or remotely ok.
I'm hoping the writer's surprise us, but they are taking this pity Jo train all the way to the top. Filming someone in such a privet moment is disgusting and exploitative, but it's Jo's feelings that are going to be focused on ? Team full of writers and no one made a good enough case to not do this? Seriously?
How? Because Lacey isn't a very good person. - Lacey lied to the cops about being with Danny to protect her social status. - She almost always refuses to acknowledge Danny in public and even talked sh*t about him to her friends in the last episode. - Lacey was so paranoid about potentially negative public opinion that she wouldn't even consider going to Danny's party until she learned he might be in danger.
- She turned her back on her (former) friend and then has the nerve to give her sh*t about it years later. - Lacey consistently chooses her vapid, bullying, mean girl friends over the otherwise decent people in her life.
Lacey isn't a person to be counted on and one should be very careful about trusting her as well.
Jo is far from perfect. She's too judgmental, she's naive, she's stubborn, and she can be too impressionable. Fortunately for Jo, she's loyal and she's willing to stand up for what and whom she believes in. That's more than I can say for Lacey.
Once again, how is she any different from the girl in the first few episodes ? I will admit that she has grown some, but I hardly think its on the same amount as Lacey. Lacey on the other hand wouldnt even talk to Danny in the beginning and is now trying to help prove his innocence right along with Jo.
If you watched the last episode, you would know Lacey has more than enough reason to want to hide her association with Danny. I seriously don't understand how people need this spelled out to them.
Lacey tried in the first episode to be nice to Jo by inviting her to that party, Jo snapped at her. I'll go into detail about this because I think part of the reason some people fail to see it is because of the pity Jo thing abcf has going on. Did you bother to consider how hard it was for Lacey to stick by Jo when all Lacey wanted to do was forget and have a normal childhood? So how is she more wrong than Jo who wouldnt stop talking about it even though it was hurting Lacey?
Those vapid mean girls helped Lacey get through a very difficult time in her life. Not Jo.
When Danny did what he did it ruined both girl's lives. So youre upset with Lacey because she didnt jump at the chance to lose everything all over again? Besides, she was asleep. While it does give Danny a small window of alibi, its not enough to clear his name off the list. He could have killed Regina when she was a sleep.
If you can forgive Jo for being naive then I don't see how you can be mad at Lacey for being cautious.
"Once again, how is she any different from the girl in the first few episodes ?" Except for becoming more of an outgoing person, she hasn't and that's part of the point. Jo is a steady, reliable person. Besides, why should she strive to be significantly different? She's not the one with the majority of glaring character flaws.
"If you watched the last episode, you would know Lacey has more than enough reason to want to hide her association with Danny." If someone is too scared / embarrassed / ashamed to be with their significant other in public then they shouldn't be with them. It's unfair and extremely disrespectful to the person they're dating.
"Lacey tried in the first episode to be nice to Jo by inviting her to that party, Jo snapped at her." One extremely reluctant party invite. She wasn't doing it to be nice to Jo. She was trying to assuage her guilt.
" Did you bother to consider how hard it was for Lacey to stick by Jo when all Lacey wanted to do was forget and have a normal childhood?" Yes. It's exactly a time like this when people tend to show the quality of their character. Lacey just wanted to stick her head in the sand more than she wanted to stick by Jo. She traded her best friend for new friends.
"Those vapid mean girls helped Lacey get through a very difficult time in her life. Not Jo." No, Lacey helped Lacey as she always seems to when things get hard. The only way those "friends" helped was by not talking about what happened to her like Jo would have. They ignored it just like Lacey wanted to.
"So youre upset with Lacey because she didnt jump at the chance to lose everything all over again?" I'm not upset with Lacey, she's fictional. I have relatively low opinion of Lacey because of her weak character. She lies to her friends, she plays both sides of the fence, she consistently looks out for herself to the detriment of the people around her, she made out with Danny while in a relationship with someone else (the guy was a douche but that's no excuse), etc. etc. The list goes on.
"I don't see how you can be mad at Lacey for being cautious." Cautious is fine. Cautious is great in this situation. It's the laundry list of other stuff I have problems with.
Lacey is worse. Danny is constantly trying to just allow him to tell jo so he can be honest with someone that he cares about. He is excited about being with Lacey and she cannot even handle jo knowing. We know Jo wouldn't tell anybody. She doesn't even know that Jo likes Danny so it isnt out of jealousy. SHe just wants to have her cake and eat it too. It is something that i dislike about her character.
Well I guess when Danny gets sick of it he'll dump her. It seems to me like he is the one who has to make a decision about their relationship and btw Danny is a big guy if he wanted to tell Jo he would have so let's not forget that Danny has a brain that he can use and loves using when he wants something.
I am actually looking forward to seeing Lacey as an outcast. Her popularity seemed like it was her way of coping with what happened five years before and it would be interesting to see how that changes her though I am sure this means that in January we are going to get a lot of scenes of the three together where I am hoping no love triangle takes away from the mystery and exploring Danny's past. I have my fingers grossed for flashbacks of Danny in juvie I am just dying to know who he met there and how they changed him, here is to hoping some of those people make an appearence in GG. Though by now I don't really expect anything creatively from the writers, they have shown over and over that they are incapable of coming up with anything that is not cliche and overdone.
I don't think she's embarrassed to be with Danny. People keep forgetting that Regina was Lacey's best friend. Unlike Jo, Lacey and her friends actually cared about the victim, which is why she's so conflicted about hanging around Danny and hurting her friends. She also mentioned that she just broke up with Archie and probably doesn't want to flaunt a new boyfriend in his face, which is completely understandable.
Jo is in a very different situation from Lacey because she doesn't have to worry about hurting all her friends and her ex-boyfriend. She wasn't friends with the victim, so she doesn't have this conflict of interest. But then again, I'm not particularly impressed with Jo's complete devotion to Danny, either.
If Lacey wanted to have her cake and eat it too, she wouldn't have dumped the most popular guy in school to date a social outcast. I actually really admired her for deciding not to prolong her relationship with Archie while sneaking around with Danny.
I think there could be many reasons for Lacey not wanting to tell Jo; it's possible that she picked up on Jo's feelings for Danny and and knows that their relationship would hurt Jo and create friction among the group. I think her comment about not wanting to make Jo feel like a third wheel was valid. I also really liked her conversation with Jo on the swing. It made me think that she really admires Jo and wants to patch up their friendship. I still think it's a mistake for her not to tell Jo anything, but it doesn't make me think any less of her.
Jo hasn't exactly been nice to Lacey, so I really don't see how Lacey owes her anything. Those two have a shaky past, so their residual resentment is understandable; I can actually empathize with both of them in that regard. However, it also explains why Lacey might be uncomfortable about saying anything to Jo.
I do get tired of the constant focus on Jo's point of view, especially since all three actors are supposed to have equal billing. For all the effort the writers put into Jo, they really aren't doing a good job in making her character relatively compelling. Not only do Lacey and Danny come off as more complex, but the two respective actors also outshine the actress who plays Jo, especially in the charisma department. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure that the writers expected Lacey to appeal to so many viewers. By presenting Jo as the smart but lonely social misfit and Lacey as the popular and somewhat aloof one with tons of friends, it's possible that they expected most viewers to dislike Lacey and empathize more with Jo, which clearly doesn't seem to be the case.
Totally agree. I am also bother by the fact that Jo hasn't grown much since the first episode and when I think of possible places her character could go I come up blank. I just don't see how she could be developed in the future beyond the hurt BFF who who fights for her friend/object of her desire. And the writers need to stop victimizing Jo bc she is the type of person to stand up for things and she definitely does not need to be made to look like cry baby. Like has anybody noticed the hash tags in each episode? They are pathetic and I find them offensive to her. I really cannot wait for January, I am holding the hope that the writers will change direction and come up with something great or at least decent and more fast paced. They should have mentioned that Jo in this snippet that Jo is still seeing Tyler, why is beyond me maybe she has a revenge-agenda bc of the video. I hope so, Tyler turned out to be a total creeper.
The hash tags are annoying. The #PoorJo hash tag that appeared during the road trip episode was the first time I notice them. And Tyler is way creepier than Archie. He and his sister look way too old to be in high school, which makes the whole Tyler/Jo thing seem even creepier.
In the beginning, Jo was the person I identified with, but her character hasn't really evolved in the best way. At the same time, I think this last episode (especially at the end when she spoke to Tyler and Lacey) was one of the better ones for Jo in terms of character development, so maybe there's hope!
I'm a little worried about what will happen in January, seeing that they just named Chuck Pratt as the new show runner and I'm not crazy about his track record (He's written for a lot of soaps like General Hospital and All my children and was the executive producer for Melrose Place and The Lying Game.
i dont think less of her but i do question. while her reason for not telling jo is completely valid, it didnt seem fully sincere. i think she wants to be friends wit jo, but i dont think she knows jo's real feelings for danny yet
I love you(the way u think). lol. thats the best objective and accurate description ever. and i completely agree. both have growing up to do. but in my opinion lacey makes her 'social life' way more important than that of a human being, yet danny is so smitten.
Yeah and only one of them is still running. He could change it to ruin i'm just wondering what Adam Milch was thinking when he employed Charlie Pratt for the show.If they put Jo and Danny together that will pretty much be the end of the road but going by what Adam has said methinks he doesn't want any love triangles on the show he wants it to be different, don't get me wrong i like Jo but i don't think her and Danny have any chemistry more like brother/sister relationship.Jo is more suited to Rico and she has good chemistry with creepy Tyler.Just thought i'd add this but out of the 3 i think Lacey has suffered the most trauma but has hidden this though her friends it will be interesting to see how she copes when this taken away.
I agree, I'm so sick of some people trying to always make Jo like she's some angel and Lacey to be a witch. The traumatic experience that they both shared. affected them in different ways. Jo became a recluse and Lacey became popular. Jo had nothing going for her and when Danny came back, she latched on to him, because she needed it. she needed a life. She even admitted that much. Lacey has everything to lose and in high school, that's a big thing. How would you feel if people were taunting you and making fun of you for associating with a murderer? you woul distance yourself as far as possible. The way Lacey has been acting, is how any of us in that situation would have done. No one in their right mind would have welcomed a murderer into their lives, the way Jo did. Lacey's reaction is the real one, not Jo's. By the way, I like Jo too, I'm just tired of hearing how people don't like Lacey because she didn't welcome Danny with open arms. If you were 11 years old and witnessed a murder and your best friend did it, how gun ho would you be to have that person in your life? Regarding the video tape. I hope it's not going to be about Jo's feelings. Frankly it's none of her business what Danny and Lacey do. They don't answer to her and Jo is not Danny's girlfriend.
A lot of people simply (and blindly) support the character because they're 'shippers and they like Lacey and Danny together. I'm not a 'shipper and I'll begin warming up to Lacey when she starts making more admirable choices.
If Lacey isn't embarrassed she's certainly still scared of what people will think of her. Lacey made a choice to pursue a relationship with Danny immediately after her breakup and Lacey is an intelligent young woman who is responsible for her own choices.
She knew the kind of reputation Danny had and the attitude most people (including her friends and ex-boyfriend) have toward him. If she's going to choose to be with him, she has to be prepared to take all the crap that comes with it. She can't enter into a relationship with someone like Danny and complain about the consequences for doing so.
If you see a sign that says "Caution! Quicksand ahead," and you keep walking, you don't have anyone else to blame when you start sinking.
For the people who thinks that Lacey is not a good person, it's interesting to me how you say that she's only thinking of her reputation. Yet she defends Danny to Archie and breaks up with him. she stood up for Jo when Sarita pulled that prank when they were doing the skit about drunk driving. She didn't pull out of the play when she knew that it was going to be only the three of them, knowing that she was going to be on stage with Danny in front of the entire school body. In fact she's the one that suggested that Danny would do it. When Jo got drunk at the party, it's Lacey that left the party to drive her home. Even when she decided not to go to Danny's party because her friends wouldn't be there, the moment she found out that they were going to do something to Danny, she went to the party regardless of who found out. Gee I can see how terrible of a person Lacey is.
I cannot wait to see the episode and most especially how ARCHIE will react to all of this... I mean the guy just had his girl stolen by a convicted murderer (whether or not he is innocent he still was convicted) and it was broadcast all over the whole school. The man's ego has seriously taken a blow and I really want to see just how he plots to destroy Lacey and Danny.
Oook, so maybe you guys don't know much about character development and how it applies to writing - whether it be for television, movies, plays, books, etc. When creating characters, you need them to have character flaws, something that makes them realistic and keeps them out of "mary-sue" territory. For Jo, it is her naivety and sheep mentality. For Lacey, it is her hard exterior and dependence on the new life she has made for herself. Neither character is perfect. If they were, they'd be boring.
Danny likes Lacey, and vice versa. That's where we are at this point in the season. I understand why Jo would be upset over the video, but I would hope that since she is such a "steady" character, as some of you have pointed out, that she would still support Danny in his decisions. It would be different if she'd told him how she felt, but he's pretty oblivious on that front.
I think most of the people who like or empathize with Lacey have clearly stated their reasons, just as you've stated your reasons for having a low opinion of her. Just because someone relates to a character in a more positive way than you do, doesn't imply "blind" support. By that same logic, one could easily counter that you "blindly dislike" Lacey.
Anyway, I really see nothing wrong with liking or disliking a character, particularly in a fictional show where the goal of the writers is to create characters that will elicit some kind of reaction in viewers. Furthermore, if you care enough to post more than 15 times on why you dislike someone, then I seriously doubt that you're any more objective than the rest of us. You're just on a different kind of ship, which is fine. I think that's much better than using fake objectivity to imply that you have a clearer perspective than everyone else.
In some ways I feel bad for Archie. Even though he was a jerk to Danny, he was actually a decent boyfriend to Lacey (assuming he didn't fool around with Regina), so I did feel a little sorry for him when Lacey broke up with him. And part of his anger towards Danny had to do with the realization that Danny was interested in his girlfriend. I might feel less sorry for him after tonight's episode though!
Archie seems to have anger management issues, but I don't think he killed Regina or poisoned the other guy (he seemed really surprised when Danny quit the team). I think he would have been an interesting character for the the show to develop, because he's clearly very perceptive and seems to be a lot deeper than what we see on the surface. I'm assuming his character won't play a huge role in the show because he's supposed to be one of the leads in the upcoming "Star-Crossed". It's too bad. Tyler, on the other hand, just seems plain creepy to me, but I can't tell if it's the character or the actor!
I understand Jo being hurt by finding out her current best friend and estranged best friend are together especially since she has a crush on Danny. What i do not understand and what this spoiler leaves out is why she decided to keep going out with Tyler. I sincerely hope she doesn't do it out of spite at Danny and is the supportive friend she claims to be. I hope she actually cares about how having such a video out there for the public to see and judge is hurting Danny and Lacey. I hope she doesn't make it all about her as she's prone to do about everything. I can't imagine having such a video about myself and boyfriend released. It's giving me an ulcer imagining all the horrible ways the show could screw it up by supporting the notion that Jo's hurt feelings are more important than Danny and Lacey's. If we don't get a decent focus on how Danny and Lacey feel being the actual victims and the show doesn't emphasize how their feelings about it are ultimately more important, that would be the end of the line for me. I wouldn't condone such an attitude in real life and the subject matter is way too serious to even cut them any slack in that matter.
I sincerely hope we get the Jo post Three for the Road who was becoming more mature and less self absorbed. The last thing i want to see on my screen is another #poorJo when the video gets released.
I hope the show handles Lacey's out with the in-crowd with respect where we get to see and hear how she feels about it. My ultimate wish would be for the trio to finally come together but i doubt it considering said spoiler.
I will be the first to say, Lacey not wanting Danny to tell Jo about them is out of character. No, Lacey does not owe Jo any information about her life. They are just reconnecting and getting to know each other again. But Danny is not Lacey. I didn't think Lacey would care all that much about Danny telling Jo because Jo knowing won't mean anything the way the entire school knowing would mean. I totally understand keeping it a secret from the entire school but Jo is a hard one to swallow. I think Lacey facing the fact that yes, she is attracted to Danny and could no longer pretend it was a simply mistake after the cemetery kiss was good. Even breaking up with Archie after that was great. But i think she got into a relationship with Danny too quickly before she was okay with the idea of a relationship with him. I think she has a hard time accepting what that means and how she feels about it so she is hesitant to share it which wold really make it concrete and real. On top of that, Danny attracts danger and Archie will not like it and its tactless of her to immediately start making out with Danny in front of him and the friends who still think Danny killed Regina.
What does Lacey being worse in your opinion have to do with the fact that an intimate video of Danny and Lacey gets leaked for everyone to see without their permission? In such a scenario, Jo's feelings are completely irrelevant. She is not the victim of the video. She can hurt for being kept in the dark very briefly. But it still isn't about her no matter how you spin it. Danny is her friend. If Danny was someone i considered a friend. I would feel hurt mostly because i had a crush on him and i thought we had that sort of relationship where we told each other everything. But, i would put that aside for the moment to deal with the situation and support him as he goes through the gross invasion of privacy debacle. Afterwards when maybe he was getting back to himself and no longer traumatized, then i would breach the issue of how hurt i felt by being kept in the dark.
I mean this is all just speculation and Jo may handle the whole situation a whole better than i give her credit for which would be fantastic because such a thing would bring them closer as they develop even more which will always be a great thing. I would sacrifice all the romance in the show if we could get the trio back together again with the proper buildup and development of course because that little moment at that apartment building was golden.
its blind because besides danny and lacey's chemistry, what is so amazing about lacey??? the worst thing u can do is say u care about someone and when ppl are around u look the other way and pretend u dont know them. it was ok in the beginning as he jus came back. but now its jus plain rude. Jo is also not perfect. she is takes outcast to a whole other level.
"What does Lacey being worse in your opinion have to do with the fact that an intimate video of Danny and Lacey gets leaked for everyone to see without their permission?"
What? Nothing. That statement was a response to the end of NIM's post, not the synopsis.
She didn't stand up for Jo and Danny, she chastised the behavior of her friend and her (now ex) boyfriend. That's a significant difference. She always stops short of actually backing up / defending / saying good things about either of Jo or Danny when she's around anyone whom she believes disapproves of those two.
When people are willing to overlook and/or ignore so many glaring character flaws in order to adamantly support a character then "blindly" is hitting the nail on the head.
I am not a big supporter of any one character on this show and I'm certainly not a 'shipper, for what it's worth. All I'm doing is in this topic is defending a usually tepid, mildly interesting character (Jo) from a lot of senseless ridicule all from people who seem to have one thing in common - their affinity for Lacey and her relationship with Danny.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love the title.
ReplyDeleteJo is hurt by a video that exposes Lacey and Danny's private relationship in a horrible way? Self absorbed much.
ReplyDeleteSo she can't have hurt feelings and feel bad for those two? IMO, Lacey is still worse.

ReplyDeleteI think there could be many reasons for Lacey not wanting to tell Jo; it's possible that she picked up on Jo's feelings for Danny and and knows that their relationship would hurt Jo and create friction among the group.
ReplyDeleteI do get tired of the constant focus on Jo's point of view, especially since all three actors are supposed to have equal billing.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree.
ReplyDeleteThey should have mentioned that Jo in this snippet that Jo is still seeing Tyler, why is beyond me maybe she has a revenge-agenda bc of the video.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning, Jo was the person I identified with, but her character hasn't really evolved in the best way.
ReplyDeleteI love you(the way u think). lol. thats the best objective and accurate description ever. and i completely agree. both have growing up to do. but in my opinion lacey makes her 'social life' way more important than that of a human being, yet danny is so smitten.
ReplyDeleteHow was that objective?
ReplyDeletebecaus he didnt pick sides. it was just honest, an not trying to please any ship. lacey has her quirks and jo has her quirks.
ReplyDeleteYeah and only one of them is still running.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm so sick of some people trying to always make Jo like she's some angel and Lacey to be a witch.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the video tape.
ReplyDeleteIf Lacey isn't embarrassed she's certainly still scared of what people will think of her. Lacey made a choice to pursue a relationship with Danny immediately after her breakup and Lacey is an intelligent young woman who is responsible for her own choices.
ReplyDeleteShe knew the kind of reputation Danny had and the attitude most people (including her friends and ex-boyfriend) have toward him.
ReplyDeletePOW! right on the head
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to see the episode and most especially how ARCHIE will react to all of this... I mean the guy just had his girl stolen by a convicted murderer (whether or not he is innocent he still was convicted) and it was broadcast all over the whole school. The man's ego has seriously taken a blow and I really want to see just how he plots to destroy Lacey and Danny.
ReplyDeleteOook, so maybe you guys don't know much about character development and how it applies to writing - whether it be for television, movies, plays, books, etc.
ReplyDeleteDanny likes Lacey, and vice versa.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I really see nothing wrong with liking or disliking a character, particularly in a fictional show where the goal of the writers is to create characters that will elicit some kind of reaction in viewers.
ReplyDeleteArchie seems to have anger management issues, but I don't think he killed Regina or poisoned the other guy (he seemed really surprised when Danny quit the team).
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope we get the Jo post Three for the Road who was becoming more mature and less self absorbed.
ReplyDeleteDanny is her friend.
ReplyDelete"What does Lacey being worse in your opinion have to do with the fact
ReplyDeletethat an intimate video of Danny and Lacey gets leaked for everyone to
see without their permission?"
What?
ReplyDeleteWhen people are willing to overlook and/or ignore so many glaring character flaws in order to adamantly support a character then "blindly" is hitting the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteI am not a big supporter of any one character on this show and I'm certainly not a 'shipper, for what it's worth. All I'm doing is in this topic is defending a usually tepid, mildly interesting character (Jo) from a lot of senseless ridicule all from people who seem to have one thing in common - their affinity for Lacey and her relationship with Danny.
To be honest I am only interesting in Danny and Lacey.
ReplyDeleteme too, but i'm also interested in the plot as well.
