ReplyDeleteUm, no way Season 7 is the last with the ratings and chatter (both from fans and actors) this show gets. These days we usually get some kind of heads-up with cult shows and there's been no whispers from what I've seen... heck, Dexter gave us close to a three year heads-up.

ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think he will be turned or used as a lab rat. When I read they changed the name of the finale from "Save the Population" to "Radioactive", this got me thinking about another possible game changing finale. What if the purpose of the Vamp Camp was never to eradicate the vampire population? What if all the test they are subjecting the vampires to is part of an effort to make some type of super soldier? I couldn't really figure out what was the point of finding out vamps weaknesses if they just planned on tainting the blood supply and killing them all off. I used to think that the only thing that could redeem Bill was to revert him to being a human, but what if he really is the only thing that can go against a rogue government made monster? Maybe he will have to catch it, and Sookie's magic ball of light is the only thing that can kill it. Who knows? I'm having a hard time of think of anything else that would put humans and vampires on the same side. Asides from going the Supernatural route with angels/demons, this is the only other thing that makes sense to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think that the tainted Hep V TB is not strong enough to immediately kill the vampires(remember Burrell said that Nora had a concentrated dose). What if they want to make the vampires sick so they can force them to come get "a cure". But instead of just getting a cure, they actually implant/inject them with something that brings them under government control. There has to be a reason they are studying the nature of vampires. It wouldn't make sense if there plan all along was just to kill them all. Humans would be in just as much danger as the vampires if anyone could be turned and then controlled. I'm still working on this random theory.
ReplyDeleteWith Sarah Newlin's history with vampires, her being HBIC at Vamp Camp, and since the project was her idea in the first place, I don't think I can buy into the super soldier angle. Newlin has always wanted to wipe out vamps. If someone else created the program I'd probably give some credence to what you're saying.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that Hep V is an STD and the vampires who contract it won't die or notice immediately, instead contaminating other vampires via sex, even the ones who don't drink True Blood.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know about this "Save the Population" episode title, but I'm aware they changed it from "We'll All Go Together When We Go" (crappy title, but "Radioactive" isn't that much of an improvement).
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point, and I know it's a crazy theory and I don't think it was what Newlin had originally intended. Maybe once the government got involved, it was all out of her hands. Or maybe she doesn't care if she thinks they can be converted to do the Lord's bidding. I think she proved in the last episode her moral compass is wobbly and rational thought doesn't really apply to her. I just can't understand why she is forcing the prisoners to drink the TB if they have that handy sun room which could easily kill them. I think there has to be a reason for that. Also, I think this whole Vamp Camp is an allusion to the concentration camps of WWII were the Nazis were more than happy to force Jews into doing labor for them and were doing experiments to figure out how to engineer the perfect human race.

They're lab rats. They needed to test the tainted True Blood on them before they sent it out to the public.

I think the similarities are on purpose but, just like with the camps during WWII, what started out with a clear purpose has seemingly devolved into sadism for its own sake and not much more.

I like "radioactive" because of what it could all imply. First you have the idea that someone becomes radioactive and has super abilities, Then you have the idea that someone is radioactive and is dying (radiation poisoning). Then you have a more sci-fi implication of something like the radiation causing 'time travel'. Or you could also have 'radio active' implying a political movement through the radio
ReplyDeleteAlthough I think that's a great theory (and I totally could get behind it), the other reason would be hypocrisy. The need to control and torment , rather than just irradiation.
ReplyDeleteReading your other responses to Bruce, you do make a good point about the Hep-B, but it could be that they're just getting the info they need before they irradiate.--But I agree it would be more effective plot wise to there be an additional purpose for said information...
Well, in this theory humans would be in danger because it would take much for them to be turned and then controlled, or just the general threat of some rogue government created monsters might start attacking the general population. With the Ilfrit storyline, I think it's safe to say that the show doesn't have the highest opinion of the armed forces so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make another political statement. Another possibility I read on a different site, was that the Hep V mutates, and the human population is now affected by it as well. The biggest reason I don't like that theory, is I'm not sure a season about a race to a cure would make for good campy fun. But once again, Ball bought this show because of his comparison to the gay rights movement, and I wouldn't be shocked if he wanted to draw parallels to the emergence of the AIDS epidemic of the 80s.

ReplyDeleteI'm really curious about what your idea about a Vampocalypse entails. The first theory I had around the 2nd episode of this season was that Warlow was going to use Sookie to try and have some freaky vampire/faery hybrid baby that would either destroy the vampire race, human race, or fae race. I based a lot of this off of the elder fae's warning from last season that Sookie would be tested and that she should protect her light. Tie that warning into what Nora read from the vampire bible "when the blood ascends, dark and light will combine, two will become one, and our salvation will be at hand". If all Warlow had wanted was a companion, he could have turned another fae lady thousands of years ago. But he specifically waited til he had one from the original royal fae family. I think he is playing Sookie trying to say he's a victim and misunderstood because he needs her to willingly sharing her light(a term Maurella used when talking about her conception of faebies with Andy). It appears she may have already shared her light 2 episodes ago and if Maurella pregnancy is any indication, she could still feasibly have this Antichrist-like child in the finale. The biggest reason I shy away from this theory for this season, is that with only 2 episodes left it doesn't leave much time for this to all go down this season.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware Imagine Dragons had a "Radioactive" song, I always thought they were going with Marina and the Diamonds (True Blood has done pop before). It's not that I don't like the titles, they just don't feel like a season finale, much like the "Remember the Monsters" Dexter title discussion we've had some time ago. :)

ReplyDeleteThat's a good theory, and it's also one that I hope doesn't happen. I'm just not into the whole baby angle, and it seems like this show has a million baby stories already, not to mention another one in Nicole. One thing I keep hearing, is that the show will go back to it's one town roots. The showrunner said it, and Joe Manganiello said it a few times too. Joe specifically said it will go back to being one show, as opposed to "lots of shows in one" formula that they've been doing since season 3. As for showrunner Brian Buckner, he actually said the show would be greatly condensed, and he actually said all this in response to someone asking if there would be more supernaturals. He also wants to emphasize the relationship between humans and vampires, like show used to do.
ReplyDeleteIf we are going to have the focus on Bon Temps like they said, that makes me wonder even more what this new crisis could be. All the theories that you posted could be a go, because anything could happen on this show, but it sounds like it may be toned down in the ridiculous department next season. Also, where would the weres and shifters fit into all this? And the rest of the faeries?
I think Warlow pretty much annihilated the entire faery population of Bon Tempes, with the exception of Niall and possibly Maurella, so I'm not sure how much story there is to tell with them. I assumed there slaughter was part of the design to focus the show back to one core story. I still can't figure out a way to get the weres and shifters as part of the central story and it seems that the writing staff of TB have had the same issue for the last 2 years. After last week, I'm hoping we have seen the last of Alcide's pack, although it seems like that would have made there presence in the early episodes utterly devoid of purpose. It wouldn't be an unprecedented move, remember the horrible Hot Shot Jason/Crystal storyline(granted there could still be werepanther babies out there, but I hope we never find out). Ultimately I think you will see all the variations of supes come together to save the human race, therefore gaining some sort of acceptance. I haven't fully developed any of my theories, and I've already dedicated far more time then any sane person should on trying to figure it all out, so I'm not sure if I ever will. I really enjoy these types of sites to see other peoples insights and work them into the jumble that is my brain.
ReplyDeleteI wish they had stuck closer to the books in regards to the werewolf storyline. In the books, weres have a tendency to be members of the military. Had the Shreveport pack been soldiers, it would have been so much easier to incorporate them into a meaningful storyline that could have included everyone, instead of some side segment that never really felt like it fit with the rest of the show, IMO.

But I feel you. That Dexter title could be better, bit sometimes the title doesn't become to relevant until one sees how the episode is done...
Indeed! Let's hope for the best and trust our writers :) Although episode titles are a big part of the experience, to me, I'm aware most people don't even know them haha
