BBC1 has cancelled lavish period drama The White Queen after it failed to pull in substantial audiences for the channel.
"The White Queen will not be returning, but it is important to note that it was never actually conceived as a returnable series," said the BBC.

That's a shame, it was a good show and I liked it alot. Question now is.....if it does well on Starz will it get commissioned it for a second series/season? Guess we'll know soon....
ReplyDeleteOh no. I liked it. I found it entertaining and I got a history lesson as well. Boo on BBC America. How about Starz? Will it still show?
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize it was suppose to be a limited series or mini series....well that's too bad.
ReplyDeleteIt was on BBC1 in the UK not BBCA in the US
ReplyDeleteHow about on Starz? I know it was only a mini series, but... I just started watching & enjoyed it very much.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am getting confused. I watch it on Starz. Do we know if it was cancelled on that station?
ReplyDeletenot sure since it just started airing. I've seen all episodes already so I am not sure, but my friend watches it on Starz. I hope Starz gets the ratings and creates another second series/season 2.
ReplyDeleteIt's not owned by Starz but by the BBC. Starz just pay to air it.
ReplyDeleteActually, it was conceived as a 10-episodes drama. It covers the complete period of the York ruling...
ReplyDeleteMaybe if it has been successful, they could have done a second season on the life of "the white princess" (her daughter). But I liked it as a 10-parts drama as it was!
no, it's a co-production. Starz could order a second season if they really wanted but I doubt they will considering they will have to produce it on their own.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I think The White Queen is one of those shows that doesn't need a second series because it already told the whole story.
ReplyDeleteA bit like "World Without End", no one said it was cancelled after the finale aired cos it was always aimed to be a miniseries.
I never expected it to have a second season personally. Odd statement!
ReplyDeleteIm slightly confused as to why anyone was expecting a second series? I live in the UK, the ten part series was based on Phillipa Gregory's historical novel and all ten episodes aired over here, the last one aired on August 18th...it was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt was cancelled even though it was only meant to be 1 season. The world of TV executive speak is crazy. I swear no one wants to admit to having mini-series these days everything is limited event series bullshit.
ReplyDeleteI liked it too, but I thought the acting was uneven at times I'm not much of a Max Irons fan I guess! XD
ReplyDeleteEither way I enjoyed it for what it was. A different look at rather well-known history from a feminine perspective. I found it very watchable and refreshing despite any of its flaws.
"Limited Event" used to mean mini-series, but when I see the phrase now I take it as meaning "If the series is sub-par then it was designed as a one off, but if it is successful we will have a second limited event." XD
ReplyDeleteI just started watching it on Stars and I really liked it so far. I'm responding to you off the disques dashboard to try and save myself from spoilers, but could you tell me if at least the first season (seeing how it was limited to begin with) ends mostly solid or not???
ReplyDeletePretty much yes! I mean that is what has happened with Under the Dome which is subpar quality wise but the ratings means no way they wouldn't bring it back.
ReplyDeleteI have not watched the final 3 episodes so I'm not the right person t ask honestly. However, It is based on a book that is based in real history, I think the ending should be solid and unaffected by there not being a second season.
ReplyDeleteLike I (and others) wrote in other comments, I do not think they ever planned to have a second season so the Season 1 ending should be their desired finale. :)
but it had a beginning and an ending i never saw it like they were gonna eb more seasons i happy with what i saw!
ReplyDeleteIt ends as it should. It is a complete serie.
ReplyDeleteI knew it would get canceled. Now can the UK please stop making these period drama's based on History. Hate true event stuff even if there is slight different adaptation its like I already know what is going to happen. Either change the history a lot to make a a unique adaptation aka alternate history/universe or just stop making these all together.
ReplyDeleteBut then Actors/Actress over there are probably really happy for the cancel. You know them UK people love to leave the show no loyalty to the character or story.
Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI assumed it was done and dusted as the story was told? I thought it was quite entertaining in a stretching facts to fit the drama kind of way and I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI never thought it was going to continue. If you want to continue rent the Tudors, It did a marvelous job with that time frame.
ReplyDeleteThat is unsurprising because it sucked.
ReplyDeletenoooooooooo!!! please give us the second season with what will happen next! this is REAL (ok with drama) history, and it is better than novels! also becouse in next time, Enrico VIII will come... and you know... pls I really love this show...!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer,I really loved it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a shame - I found The White Queen really enjoyable and was hoping for more!

This is a HORRIBLY directed TV series..
ReplyDeleteRemember in episode 1 or 2
when Lady Margaret Beaufort goes to visit her son Henry, the future
King Henry VII? He was around 5 or 6 years old at the time of that
visit.
When they did a forward in the story line an episode
later, a message on the screen said 3 YEARS LATER. Well Lady Margaret
Beaufort visits her son again Henry and he hadn't aged a day even though
it was suppose to be 3 YEARS LATER!!
Not sure about you all but a
5-6 year old looks allot older than a 9-10 year old, which should have
been his age when they forwarded the story 3 years and Lady Margaret
Beaufort went to visit him again.
HORRIBLE DIRECTING. The director should be fired and never direct again over something like this.

Those were my thoughts exactly, I figured that if they continued with it, it would be with "The White Princess" and tbh, I was looking forward to it since I've enjoyed "The White Queen", but is not like I'll be mourning it's loss.
