The Originals - Casting News - Shannon Kane to Guest

3 Aug 2013

Shannon Kane, a fan favorite on All My Children, has been cast in the recurring role of Sabine on The Originals, the CW's highly-anticipated Vampire Diaries spin-off, we've exclusively learned.

Described as wild, bold and sexy, Sabine is a street smart tour guide in New Orleans who also happens to secretly be a leading member of the French Quarter's witch community. So we're guessing she's not a fan of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) then!

  1. Wild, bold and sexy huh...translation she's going to die in the first episode that she's in. It would have been fun to see sexy, sassy witch on the show or even on TVD as a recurring role. Oh well.

Apparently the phrase "recurring role" completely eluded you.

  3. No need to be rude.

  4. Sounds like she's probably one of the witches working with Sophie.

  5. Fair enough. My apologies.

  6. Another witch is always good. I've always thought TVD did a poor job with witchcraft, making Bonnie exponentially more powerful over the seasons, so I'm curious what they will do with the witches on The Originals.

  7. I doubt they'll be doing much in the way of magic with the witches right away since they can't make a move without Marcel knowing about it.

  8. Good point, I'm just happy that witches seem to be a bigger part of the show than on TVD. I really didn't like how Bonnie was mainly used as a plot device.

I think the TVD producers agree with you. It's probably a big reason why Bonnie is dead this season.

  10. The problem with Bonnie was she allowed everyone to walk all over her and she stopped standing up for herself. At least in Season 1 Bonnie had self-respect and was unwilling to put the lives of the townspeople in jeopardy and said no. She should have stayed that way - there were so many times Bonnie should have stood up for herself and refused to do whatever it was that Damon/Stefan/Elena wanted her to do.

  11. Just chiming in to give a "HEAR! HEAR!"

Bonnie was always underutilized, and witchcraft has only been used on TVD as a plot device. I don't see or feel a really connection to any of the "witch lore" as I do the werewolves or vampires. Maybe that will change this season if they introduce Qetsiyah (somehow) and that whole back story.

  12. A lot of people are rolling their eyes about Bonnie being dead but now maybe she can be a real character on the show for a while instead of simply being a weapon.

  13. I was extremely frustrated when Bonnie died because her death itself was yet another result of her being used as a plot device to bring Jeremy back. But like you said, I hope they use this opportunity to give Bonnie a proper storyline that has been overdue for sevral seasons now.

  14. A "recurring guest" could mean anything as little as two episodes, so i'm not getting my hopes up yet! Plus, if this show is anything like Vampire Diaries, she'll probably die in the first episode and then spend the rest of the time appearing as a ghost and hanging out with Bonnie's grandmother.

  15. I think a lot of the changes had to do with Julie Plec taking over as showrunner and focussing only on her personal favorites. Unless there's a new producer and writing crew, I still think that Bonnie's character will continue to be neglected and poorly written.
