I finally realized why this season feels more powerful than the first -- this one has a clear arc, and the framing device (the lawsuit and the interviews) only adds to it. That's why there's such anticipation to the airing of the Genoa story, and the falling action that results in the lawsuit. Bravo, Sorkin.
The first season brought something new into television. Don't get me wrong, it was compelling and intriguing, but it lacked build-up. The biggest change in the storyline happened in the first episode, when Mack was brought on as an EP. They had something interesting in the assassination plot against Will, but it seems like they left that idea behind.
Aaron Sorkin always needs a few hours to get a series going. It's the fault of S60 execs for not realizing that, and not rewatching 1st season of West Wing.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI think you make a good point. The overarching story has definitely given the show focus.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree but there's still something about the first season...hahah
ReplyDeleteOne of the best shows on tv right now.

ReplyDeleteI see what you mean. Season 2 feels like there's a purpose.
