The Bridge - Episode 1.06 - I.D. - Advance Review

     After last week's insanely good episode, The Bridge is at it again. The Bridge's last episode saw the introduction of a new character in the form of Gina Meadows (a rather random shoplifter that somehow ties into the bigger picture). Right before the credits rolled, Gina witnessed the murder of her father just in time for Marco and Sonya to arrive. In this episode, Gina is taken back to the police station for questioning. As usual, Sonya does an extremely awful job attending to someone in grief. She questions without comfort and to someone who just saw their father killed, this is not at all welcoming. Enter Marco, witness interrogator extraordinaire, to get her to talk a little. After a little work with the sketch artist, the group is ready to call it a day and go for some lunch. Lunch doesn't exactly go so well.

     Rewind back to the beginning of the episode to get a little catch up on Charlotte's story line. After Marco cuts things off with her (please make this permanent!!), Charlotte gets herself a new man... just not exactly for the reason you might think. While they would seem to be a couple, this episode makes it very clear that Charlotte is using him. Charlotte wants nothing to do with the tunnel to Mexico business and is convinced that her new man is going to help her clean her hands of it. I think she underestimates the abilities of her husband's former business partners. The tunnel is there and, for now, it's there to stay. I don't think they are going to be very happy with her plans. This story is heating up.

     Daniel Frye, meanwhile, is not having a very good time. In his first scene of the episode he flushes just about every single drug you can possibly think of down the drain. He's clearly going to be in a bad attitude with detoxing in the next episode. I mean worse attitude, I don't think you can say he's exhibited a "good" attitude. I just hope his stomach holds better than his attitude. He gets to see what's left of Linder's mess.... and boy is it a sight. It seems like something the Doomsday Killer(s) from Dexter would have done. It's definitely not a scene to miss.

     In the less exciting, but equally as entertaining story, Marco's wife is continuing to hold a grudge against Marco. I have to say I don't blame her a bit. He really messed up by cheating on her and he knows it. That being said, I don't think she has to worry about Marco doing anything (or anyone) else soon. What she should worry about is her "oh so" supportive boss. A bit too supportive in this episode if you ask me.

     While the entire episode was well done, I thought the best part of the episode was a scene between Marco and Hank inside the latter's office. During this scene we learn more about Sonya and how she came to know Hank. I hope we get to see it in a flashback sometime, because it sounds great. I won't spoil this subtle, but important reveal anymore, but make sure to pay close attention here.

     Even though this episode doesn't quite reach the level that it was at last week, the episode still delivers. Figuring in the fact that we know the case will solved this season, it should be interesting to see how things start to tie up towards this last half of the season. If the first half is any indicator, it'll be great.
