Suits 3.4 Review 'Conflict of Interest'
9 Aug 2013
Reviews SuitsLast week’s episode left a bitter aftertaste after Mike and Harvey accepted that they were defending a unscrupulous oil company CEO, capable of bribing and killing protesters in order to get a pipeline in a faraway country. This week’s episode, however, brought a series of plot twists and revelations leaving the viewer intrigued about the future in the firm.
The conflict of interest starts when Louis and Harvey disagree on having Ava Hessington give a statement about her innocence. They are all confident that she’s guilty, and Louis thinks this could help his case; he represents the company and the company stocks are suffering because of the cases against the CEO, and Harvey is sure that would only hurt Ava’s (the CEO) case making her look guilty. After a failed attempt to win over the businessman trying to buy Hessington Oil, Louis turns to Jessica and the game of betrayals begins, again.
Louis will have a board meeting to take Ava down and keep the Hessington Oil account. Her case is less important to Pearson-Darby money-wise. But Darby makes it clear, Ava comes first, than the money her company represents. As he’s the owner of the 51% of the firm, he calls the shots. Everyone knows it, but Jessica is shocked when Harvey states this fact in order to stop Louis’ case becoming more important than his. And the stakes get only higher when Harvey and Mike realize Ava’s not guilty of murder. Mike tells Katrina, Katrina tells Louis, Louis tells Jessica to try to stop the board meeting and backstabbing but Jessica doesn’t care. Now she’s calling the shots.
Ava loses her company, but Pearson Darby doesn’t lose the account.
When Harvey confronts Jessica she doesn't even bother to deny it. In fact, she would do it again. We have heard her say this a few episodes back, one thing is to try to put your subordinates in place when they're getting out of hand, but her last actions put her as an equal to what Harvey is doing. They would do anything to win. The times when everyone was friends are long gone, and now this is a land of every man and woman for themselves, making Harvey’s actions to be more empathy worthy.
Between all the drama and games Suits last episode delivered some lighter and romantic moments too. Especially with Mike and Rachel’s exchange of I love yous and Donna and Stephen Huntley’s banter, date and affair.
Suits was always a fast paced legal drama, but this season did not fall short. Handling just one case has proved that the episodes could get even spicier, making the viewer beg for the next episode to come sooner.
