Suits 3.3 Review 'Unfinished Business'

‘Unfinished Business’ continues with the storyline of Harvey pursuing his number one goal: stealing the firm from Jessica. In the beginning, this storyline seemed only natural and inherent to Harvey’s character, a reaction after Jessica’s betrayal. But after she tries to protect him (and dialogues continuously show her motivation), it looks as if the writers are telling the audience this will not end well- not that the audience really needs a reminder of that.

The ‘all is good’ scene in Harvey’s office between himself, Mike and Jessica sums up the storyline. As Jessica said, she “likes working with tigers, and sometimes they take a swipe at you. When they do you need to remind them who’s the boss.” The problem seems to be that this tiger is trying to eat the boss.

Ava Hessington's case - still open - not only brought Louis into the fight, but introduced the comeback of Katrina Bennett. Her character isn't trustworthy, and the games she plays are getting old. In a childish way, she makes a video ridiculing Mike as a baby, and lap dog of Harvey. Inevitably this worked to completely shut her out of the group. Lost, Katrina turns to Louis, really though, he deserves better.

This particular case brings another question on the table: are Ava’s actions and Harvey’s acceptance of the defense case ethical? Harvey has always thought twice when accepting cases to defend. Now it seems he’s completely blind to everything around him, except his deal with Darby against Jessica. The arrival of Stephen Huntley, Harvey’s British counterpart, cements any doubt we might have had about Darby’s intentions. He’s going for the firm; and if he succeeds, what will stop him to leave Harvey in the dust?

 Besides this game of mischief, ‘Unfinished Business’ had some light moments too. The arising wordplay between Donna and Stephen, the admiration he shows and his attempts to woo her through the episode; ending with Stephen mentioning theatre tickets , Daniel Day Lewis and driving away, only show that he has done his homework on her. Knowing that he’s staying for a little while, Donna realizes she’s in trouble having found that someone other than Harvey can keep up with her sassy personality.
The copy room scene with Donna and Rachel was fun to watch. Not only because Suits knows how to work with continuity, bringing back the adventures of Michelle Ross and Harriet Specter from the first season, but because it allowed Donna and Rachel to resolve their issues. It was a pleasant moment that wasn't revolved around the men in the show.

 As the plot thickens, the technical aspects of the show (once breathtaking), have taken a backseat to the storytelling and dialogues. For me, the problem with this season seems to be that whatever Harvey and Mike do and whatever they get away with, we should empathize with them; but they used to have ethical standards, to fight for what they believed in. Lately everything is a consequence of the merger and the deal Harvey made with Darby, I’m having a problem cheering for them with their current interests.
