Scene Of The Week - August 25, 2013 - *POLL*

25 Aug 2013

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

BREAKING BAD, "Buried", August 18, 2013, Actors: Bryan Cranston, Lavell Crawford, Bill Burr
The Scenes: Walt tries to call Skyler & Huell and Kuby lie on the pile of money
Christopher Reilly:
Um, the whole episode lol? Alright, if I have to pick just one, I guess I'd say the scene with Walt trying to call Skyler, only to realize to his horror that Hank's already on the phone with her. It let the viewer know the gloves are off and it's going full throttle through the finale. The runner-up would be Marie slapping Skyler across the chops when she realized Skyler had known about Walt's drug operation when Hank was shot.
Alex Zhora: Hawks' definition of a "good movie" is three great scenes, no bad ones. I'm fascinated with Breaking Bad's ability to fulfill this requirement in installments of episodic television over and over again, and if you'd ask why I picked this scene, I'll say I did it because it was an absolute pleasure to watch the series' comic reliefs at their best.

BURN NOTICE, "Tipping Point", August 22, 2013, Actor: Garret Dillahunt
The Scene: Simon returns
A Dahne:
I loved Simon as a villain. Before James, he was probably my favorite. To watch him return and see the betrayal Michael felt by the CIA was stunning. Simon was only in for a short segment of the episode, but he changed everything.

DEVIOUS MAIDS, "Scrambling the Eggs", August 18, 2013, Actors: Susan Lucci, Judy Reyes
The Scene: Genevieve asks Zoila for Valentina's egg
Laurent Derré:
I do not know why, but despite Susan Lucci's bad acting, she always makes me laugh. The best part: the reaction of Zoila!

DEXTER, "Are We There Yet?", August 18, 2013, Actors: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Yvonne Strahovski, Charlotte Rampling, Sam Underwood
The Scenes: The Brain Surgeon is revealed to be alive & Dexter, Hannah, Debs and Zach all meet up in the motel kill room & Dexter comes back to his apartment & Dr. Vogel's Dinner Party
Sharon Seymour:
The Brain Surgeon is revealed to still be alive with the discovery of Zach's body.
DarkUFO: Dexter, Hannah, Debs and Zach all meet up in the motel kill room. Two great "Who the F*ck are you?" lines.
Also picked by Romain Ossust
Alex Zhora: Dexter is back at his apartment. It's surprising how "Dexter" found right mood again in this finely crafted scene that brings everything to the head.
Darth Locke: Dr. Vogel's Dinner Party. I love this scene because it's like a tribute to novels on which the series is base, as it often features a family of sociopaths throughout.

GRACELAND, "King's Castle", August 22, 2013, Actor: Manny Montana
The Scene: Johnny's speech

A Dahne: It was the most heartfelt Johnny has ever been and brought home a lot of truths. Part of the reason the show works so well is the chemistry between the housemates, and Johnny calling them on their betrayals was exactly what I was thinking. He's becoming my favorite character.
Justyna Kubica: This was a powerful moment. It involved all the main characters, even though most of them didn't say a word. Johnny's speech was just something that had to be said. They all live in the same house, it's not just work. It's their life. Their family. I wish all the secrets between the housemates were revealed and they started working together. Something tells me they would be so much stronger as a team. To sum up, great monologue by Manny Montana and reactions from rest of the cast. Kudos!

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, "Bring Down the Hoe", August 20, 2013, Actors: Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell
The Scene: Spencer tells the girls about Toby's mom
Jamie Coudeville:
Hanna's one liners were great, and I felt really bad for Spencer that she had to choose between her friends and her boyfriend.

RIZZOLI AND ISLES, "No One Mourns the Wicked", August 20, 2013
The Scene: The porch scene at the end
Klutzy Girl:
In light of Lee Thompson Young's death, it was the perfect way to close out the episode. It was a nice, quiet moment between co-workers and friends after they saved Korsak.
Jamie Coudeville: I love that scene on Korsak's porch, finally we get to see his house, and I also found it sad considering what happened to Lee Thompson Young.

SIBERIA, "First Snow", August 19, 2013, Actors: Miljan Milosevic, Irene Szuchun Yee, Joyce Giraud, Johnny Wactor, Daniel Sutton
The Scenes: Miljan goes crazy and starts to strangle Irene & Carolina, Johnny and Daniel decide whether to leave or stay with Sam
Sharon Seymour:
Miljan goes bat-shit crazy and starts to strangle Irene to put her out of her misery. This show has really grown on me. Didn't think I'd like it but it's gripping.
DarkUFO: Carolina, Johnny and Daniel have to make a decision about whether to leave or stay with Sam out in the snow.

SUITS, "The Other Time", August 20, 2013, Actors: Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty
The Scene: Donna and Harvey at the diner (flashback)
Justyna Kubica:
I'm usually not a big fan of the flashback episodes, but this one was quite brilliant to be honest. And I really wanted to include at least one of its scenes in the article. I decided to go with the flashback where Harvey asks Donna to work for him at Pearson Hardman. Not an easy choice, I have to admit, since there were many great moments. But what I enjoyed the most about this scene are Harvey's words and the way he explained Donna how much he needs her, even if working for him meant not being together. Always loved the interactions between these two and they were at their best here.

TEEN WOLF, "Lunar Ellipse", August 19, 2013, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Linden Ashby, Haley Webb, Felisha Terrell, Max and Charlie Carver
The Scenes: The ending sequence at school & Stiles shows up to save the parents & Jennifer fights the alpha twins & Kali

Justyna Kubica: I want to say the entire episode, but that's clearly not something I could call "scene of the week", so after a while, I chose the ending sequence at the school. It was just so nice to see everyone happy after everything that's happened this season. And what Scott said, about his friends being the ones that keep him away from the darkness, well, that's just beautiful. For me, one of the best parts of the show was and always will be the friendship between Scott and Stiles, so I was glad to see them still be there for each other. I also liked the way the sequence was filmed and the song in the background. I really can't wait for what's gonna happen next with our heroes, but this scene makes me think that not matter what, as long as they have each other, they're gonna be fine.
Klutzy Girl: Stiles and Sheriff Stilinski hug after Stiles shows up to save the parents. I love their relationship so much and hope it will improve now that Papa Stilinski finally knows the truth.
Jamie Coudeville: Jennifer fights the alpha twins & Kali - This is probably my favorite scene of the season. I love how badass this scene was.
A Dahne: I love a great fight scene and this was one of Teen Wolf's best. I especially liked the facial expressions between Blake and Kali. It was personal for them and they both did a great job of showing that they were friends in the past but now it was a fight to the death. Plus the special effects of raising the glass were cool.

THE BRIDGE, "Destino", August 21, 2013, Actors: Diane Kruger, Demián Bichir, Ted Levine, Larry Clarke, Chris Browning, Johnny Dowers
The Scene: Officer Stokes has his head blown off & The action sequence
DarkUFO:
Officer Stokes has his head blown off with a sniper rifle. Caught be off-guard and actually made me jump.
Laurent Derré: Sonya talks to Jack Childress on the phone while Marco, Hank and Tim try to catch him. Brutal and suspenseful, with a thrilling confrontation at the end... Perfect!
Alex Zhora: This sequence is made as good as its likes in best crime thrillers on current TV. It also serves as an opportunity for The Bridge's talented principal and supporting cast to do more than usual and very well might be the season's best so far, I think.

TRUE BLOOD, "Radioactive", August 18, 2013, Actors: Deborah Ann Woll, Chris Bauer, Rutina Wesley, Adina Porter, Ryan Kwanten, Rob Kazinsky, Rutger Hauer, Anna Paquin
The Scenes: Jessica offers Andy and his daughter protection & Tara's mom apologizes to her and offers to be her human donor & Jason kills Warlow
Romain Ossust:
Jessica offers Andy and his daughter protection without having to feed her. Both Deborah Ann Woll (Jess) and Chris Bauer (Andy) were absolutely great, the scene was quite intense.
Laurent Derré: Jessica is offering her help to Andy and his daughter. I really like Jess' character, she always been very human for a vampire. Very emotional scene and great performance.
Christopher Reilly: Tara's mom Lettie Mae apologizes for her treatment of Tara and offers to be her human donor.
Darth Locke: Jason kills Warlow.

UNDER THE DOME, "The Fourth Hand", August 19, 2013, Actors: Colin Ford, Britt Robertson, Mackenzie Lintz
The Scenes: Joe, Norrie and Angie touch the mini dome together & Joe with the chickens
Sharon Seymour:
Joe, Norrie and Angie all touch the mini dome together and a 4th "invisible" handprint appears.
Klutzy Girl: I agree with Sharon Seymour. The end with the fourth hand was interesting and I can't wait to see who the fourth person is!

Bradley Adams: Joe attempts to round up the chickens. So funny.

  1. My honorable mentions:

Covert Affairs – Anne confronts Henry

Perception – The last scene – I did not see this one coming!

    Louis – “I need a day” – Both times!

The Newsroom – Sloan and Will talk – “Thanks, sis”

Under the Dome – Joe, Norrie and Angie touch the mini dome and “fourth hand” appears – Now THAT is how you get someone interested in the show’s mystery!

Teen Wolf - Derek tricks and holds off Jennifer (he really was my hero of the episode), Scott becomes an Alpha, everything with parents, fight between… You know what, let’s just say the entire episode :)

  3. All the Teen Wolf scenes and Skyler vs. Marie in Breking Bad

  4. Newsroom:
When Sloan, Jim and Don find out from the rest about Genoa. Their reactions and arguments that followed, loved it.
Also Jerry editing the footage of Gen. Stomtonovich. Oh man.

Suits: The whole backstory, ending with Harvey at Donna's doorstep. Perfect!

Under The Dome: The final scene with three of them touching the dome and the fourth hand appearing. Whoa!

PLL: Cece in the final scene, wearing the black hoodie and spying on Ezra and Aria. FINALLY, the show delivered something this season.

Switched at Birth: Emmett's toast at Toby & Nikki's wedding rehearsal and Bay translating, and the looks they give each other. I love Ty and Bay, but that scene reminded me how much I miss 'Bemmett'

Mistresses: Karen Kim sleeping with Sam Grey. TRAINWRECK.

  5. loved Johnny's speech on Graceland, so heartbreaking... it's like he's the glue holding the house together, but glue and only hold so much together before everything falls apart... I wanted to run in the screen and give the poor guy a hug...

  6. PLL: Aria peeping into the holes from the crawl space and get nearly stabbed in the eye.

A black hoodie is listening Ezria conversation outside Ezra's apartment then it revealed that it is Cece Drake.

Jake and Aria (with some back-ups) dance in the hoedown party. This scene is very cute. Can we get a musical episode please? :)

  7. Suits: Harvey and Jessica on the roof! Wow! I got chills! And every single interaction between Gabriel Macht and Sarah Raferty. Oh, they have such great chemistry...
Breaking Bad: Hank vs Skyler & Skyler vs Marie. And, of course, "so maybe our best move here is to stay quiet". Anna Gunn rocks.

  9. I'm gonna have to thow in Peter killing Jennifer during the final moments of Teen Wolf, even though I'm sad to see Jennifer go. It was just so epic, Peter is my favorite character.

  10. 1. Of these, Siberia, when Sam is injured and freezing, the others are concerned if they stay, they'll freeze to death, and Daniel volunteers to stay with Sam through the night.

    2. Breaking Bad, Marie slaps Skyler and then grabs baby Holly, intending to take her away from Walt and Skyler, now that she knows what they're involved in.

    3. The Bridge, Destino. Daniel Frye, in the throes of withdrawal, rejects a chance for a great story and turns it over to Adriana. I'm proud of him for resisting the easy out of going back to drugs.

    4. The Bridge, Graciela finds something for Ray to do to earn the money he wants ;)

  11. Anna Gunn rocks indeed! It is very difficult to pick my favorite scene from BB this week, she was just brilliant in every single one. I think I have to go with Skylar vs Hank.

  12. I really like Johnny´s character and hope we see more speeches in the future. :-)

  13. Every scene with Skylar on Breaking Bad wins my vote. My two favorites being Hank/Skylar and Walt/Skylar in the bathroom.

Suits, any scene with Donna, she is so much fun.

  14. Burn Notice: Simon Returns

Under The Dome: Touching the mini dome

  15. All of the Teen Wolf moments, plus Dexter, Deb, Hannah and Zach in the motel room (that was hilarious!)

  16. *nods* The Will/Sloan scenes last week were adorable.

  17. The Bridge.-I have to agree with Andy, when officer Stokes was caught unaware and had his head blown off.I actually gasped when it happen...was not expecting that!

Suits- I cannot pick just one instance,i thought the whole episode was exceptionally good.Loved everything about this episode specially Donna & Harvey.

Under The Dome- In the end when the dome lit up showing the fourth hand print..can't wait to find out who it is!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Totally agree, both Hank vs Skyler and Skyler vs Marie were highlights of the last episode for me too, thanks to the powerhouse performances from Anna Gunn, Dean Norris and Betsy Brandt!

Also really loved Walt burying the money, Lydia's 'business negotiation' and Huell and Kuby on the money.

  19. "Under The Dome- In the end when the dome lit up showing the fourth hand print..can't wait to find out who it is!"
    - If I wasn't so sure it's Junior, and if I didn't hate the fact that it's most likely going to be Junior, I think I would have liked that moment more....

    ReplyDelete
  20. My sentiments exactly. I actually do not want to know who the fourth is if it's Junior. The less screentime he gets, the more I like Under the Dome.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My other main nomination would have been Peter killing Blake, revealing his true nature on Teen Wolf. That is the scene that has me most excited about the winter episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I loved how Derek manipulated her right where he needed by appealing to her thirst to be understood. While the baseball bat was my hero of the episode, Derek was hugely appealing as well because he finally got to shine instead of always getting beat up. I wish they would allow Derek to be smart more often.

  23. Johnny, while originally a character that tended to annoy me, has grown into my favorite character. He cares so much for all of them and because of that can come off a bit naive at times, but his heart is all there. He's going to be crushed when he learns about Briggs. I feel sorry for him already.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would like to see Johnny get more episodes centered on him as well as get more back story.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This and Kali and Blake fighting were the two scenes I was wavering between. I adore how manipulative and snarky Peter is and hope he remains to be a thorn in their sides for many seasons to come.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm enjoying the wrench Maxine is throwing into Evil Jim's plans right now. I hope she twists him into knots. It should be awesome to see him react to her beating him at every turn. I am a bit worried about Barbie though. Maxine is equally poisonous to him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, would love to see more back story too.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Switched scene was my pick too! I was hoping that it would be on the poll or that someone would say it as "other" in the comments. I loved what Emmett said and loved even more the look that he and Bay gave each other. Bring on Bemmett in season 3!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Totally with you on 'The Bridge'! I have never jumped while watching a TV show, but that bang did it!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Your probably right but I'm hoping he turns out to be a red herring?..

    ReplyDelete
  31. One can only hope.... (but I highly doubt it....)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm still not 100% Jennifer is done with the show, but the moment was very interesting, that's for sure....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Seeing Jim being humbled down was fun.... but if I were to pick who from those two I'd want standing in the end, I would pick Jim. Not because I like him more.... I actually like both of Max (at least what we've see of her) and Jim quite a bit.

Big Jim is a power hungry villain, for sure, and I don't trust him. However, I do honestly believe he wants what is best for the town and cares about the people in it. I can respect and appreciate that as a character trait, even if I don't view him as a "good guy".
And what's interesting is that Max, on the other hand actually doesn't give a rats ass about the town. She's just out for herself. But she's crafty and adaptable and cunning, and I can respect that too.
But if I have to side with someone, I'll chose the one who at least has some good intentions...

The wild card is Barbie, who is undeniably the hero and the good guy here....

Max can try to pit them against each other all she wants. And I think for a while they will comply and let her get away with it. But in the end of the day, at this moment, Barbie and Jim do want the same thing: life under the dome to be as safe as possible.
So eventually I can actually see Jim and Barbie gaining up on her to take her down.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The only reason I liked the Kali/Blake fight was because I dislike Kali

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was no fan of Kali either, but I did think the fight scenes with her were usually awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's true, but I guess she was a good villain too

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think she would have been a great villain except that we were in the middle of villain overload this summer. I will say though that they did a decent job of giving us some back story on all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  38. They just needed to emphasize on her reluctance to join Deucalion and her friendship with Jennifer because I didn't even realize they were friends until the final fight
