A Dahne: My favorite scenes on Burn Notice inevitably end up being Fiona saving Michael or vice versa. This scene was especially touching because they are in a bad place in their relationship and because the series is coming to an end.

The Scene: The last one
Justyna Kubica: First of all, what a mind-blowing finale it was! I'm pretty sure I didn't even get half of the things that happened during this one episode. So to say it was hard to pick the best scene is an understatement. But eventually I've decided to go with the last one, since it's just such a powerful and haunting image that actually creates so many possibilities and shows us some really interesting revelations. And the desperation and fear on Kiera's face was wonderfully acted by Rachel Nichols, who truly shined this season, just like the the show kept getting better. I can't wait to see what the creators have in store for season 3.

The Scenes: Hannah poisons Dexter and Deb & Zach is on Dexter's table
Romain Ossust: Dexter and Deb finally getting along, talking and then they started to feel dizzy and tired, I knew it was Hannah coming back, we all knew she would be back but I thought it was a nice way for her return, poisoning Dexter and Deb. Even if we know they will survive, I'm glad she attacked them. (also picked by DarkUFO, Darth Locke and Sharon Seymour)
Alex Zhora: Zach is on Dexter's table. This scene is another example of how Hall alone can make the show close to compelling.
GRACELAND, "Bag Man", August 8, 2013, Actors: Daniel Sunjata, Aaron Tveit, Gbenga Akinnagbe
The Scene: Briggs manipulates the entire team by doing a drug deal with Bello
A Dahne: Briggs manipulates the entire team by doing a drug deal with Bello, culminating in him knocking Mike unconscious. Briggs was very clever in how he acted like he was on the job with the team when he was really with Bello. It also showed how far he was willing to go to get revenge on the Karza cartel.
Justyna Kubica: I'm not quite sure why Briggs has become Odin in the first place, but I have my suspicions. The truth is, however, that no matter what his goal is, he's really crossing the line at this point. And once he reaches the point of no return, when (or if) he gets someone seriously hurt or even dead, I can't really see what's gonna happen next. Still, it's a very fascinating thing to watch him in this position and this specific scene where he meets with Bello behind his team's back and eventually fights with Mike is certainly a great one. By the way, it must have been a really hard fight, I mean, not only he had to try not to hurt Mike, but also prevent him from seeing his face, so... that's a tough one. But what an entertaining scene to watch!

The Scene: Daniel flashes back to his college days
A Dahne: Daniel flashes back to his college days when he convinced his dying mother to try a lot of "quack" solutions to cure her cancer. This was an idealistic, pre-schizophrenia Daniel, so very different from the one we are used to. It was great to get some extra background to his story.

The Scene: Ashely comes home
Jamie Coudeville: Finally some good news for Hanna. I hope they don't drag this storyline out much longer, I hate seeing Hanna so sad.

The Scene: Maura gets mad at Frost
Jamie Coudeville: Maura is mad at Frost for hitting on the mean barrista. I'm glad Maura said something about this, although I would've loved to see a reaction from Jane.

Klutzy Girl: The entire scene was adorable.
TRUE BLOOD, "Dead Meat", August 4, 2013, Actors: Anna Camp, Tamlyn Tomita, Anna Paquin
The Scenes: Sarah Newlin and Ms. Suzuki fight & Sookie at the her parents' graves
Romain Ossust: I love how Sarah is a total psycho, the girl fight was so fun and great. It was scary and funny at the same time... And the final blow to the head using her high heels was great!
Kelly Ann: The cat fight between Ms. Suzuki and Sarah Newlin was amazing. Anna Camp and Tamlyn Tomita did an amazing job with that scene, it could not have been easy to film. Anna Camp was actually hurt in that sequence, so you know they gave it their all. Seeing Sarah finally end Suzuki with her high heel was just epic. And Sarah truly believes its a sign from God that she's on the correct path, hence the "Thank you, Jesus!" at the end.

Justyna Kubica: I actually prefer a different scene, a very emotional one with Sookie at her parents' graves. Sookie is not usually one of my favorites, but I truly felt so bad for her in this moment. The idea of losing all the good memories and love for one's parents is just an incredibly sad one. To be left with nothing more than pain and anger towards the ones that were supposed to be your rock... Heartbreaking. That was an impressive performance by Anna Paquin, especially when Sookie says probably the most haunting part of her speech, that she would rather be a living corpse than to lie by their side.

The Scenes: Alice's death & Norrie and Joe find the mini-dome & Julia's neighbor gives birth and names her baby Alice
Bradley Adams: Alice's death scene. It was one of the most inevitably obvious TV deaths I've ever seen, but they still managed to make it very emotional.
Babar Suhail: Alice's death scene was so emotional and Norrie begging the dome to bring her back was just heart breaking.

My favorites this week were from the The Killing finale - the whole montage with Linden finally figuring out who did it (with everything else in slow motion) and the entire final scene in the woods.
ReplyDeleteSince there were a lot of great scenes worth talking about on TV this week I thought I can share with everyone my list of honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteFalling Skies – The last scene with Alexis – I like the potential of this storyline, I’m hoping it’s gonna turn out great.
Saving Hope – Maggie’s patient dies in the elevator right before the power comes back – They were so close, I couldn’t believe how sad it ended.
Suits – Ava convinces Mike and Harvey she’s innocent – Really well played scene and a good emotional
moment.
Teen Wolf – Stiles’ speech to Cora – “I don’t want to find my father’s body” really hit me. Poor Stiles! I really hope nothing bad happens to his dad. I also enjoyed the part at the end, when Stiles figures out what guardians really mean and runs after Scott. Just the shot of the two running through the hospital and getting there too late was enough.
The Newsroom – Maggie talks about Daniel’s death – She was clearly trying really hard to stay calm, but her story was so incredibly sad that the pain just seemed to be written all over her face.
Under The Dome - Norrie’s reaction to her mom’s death – The way she was begging the dome to bring her mom back was so heartbreaking and kudos to the actress for her wonderful performance here.
I finally was able to see the US Premiere of The White Queen on Starz last night!! I REALLY like the cinematography, the cast, and a touch of fate/supernatural phenomenon. That scene towards the end with Jacquette and Elizabeth instinctively turning the tables on Edward's mother was a real treat. Seriously, even though it was emotional blackmail, it was more like she was "glamoured"!
ReplyDeleteI also liked your True Blood pick, Justyna, with Sookie at the grave site! -If Sarah Newlin's scene would have been so comically climatic, I probably would have gone with that one.
And of course Dexter's Hannah returning was just a fun cliff-hanger, as series seems like it's about to turn over some more twists and terns as we count down to our last 6 episodes!!!!
I thought the True Blood fight is overrated, the only fun thing was the knee to Sarah's lady parts because she and Steve are so far from the characters I loved in Season 2. My favorite scene is Sam exploding on Sookie because Sookie always held Sam at arms length and now that he's finally happy with someone else, she comes a-knocking. Seriously, Sookie?! Screw you!
ReplyDeleteSuits: Ava convincing Mike and Harvey that she is innocent, loved it! Also Mike & Rachel's first 'I love you' was cute as hell. I dislike Katrina, but her scene with Mike with the 'shit' was so good. I think Donna was so great too, outside of her realm which we've been shown, in that dress and on a date!

Newsroom: All the scenes with Maggie, especially the one where she tries to stay strong while explaining what happened to Daniel. Also, I loved the softer side of Will when he goes to Shelley's class and their whole conversation. Sloan and Don being all smug was great to watch too!
Under the Dome: The mini-dome scene. The mystery deepens! Im more intrigued now. Also, Norrie's reaction to her mother's death, her acting was brilliant!
Switched at Birth: My favorite scene in this episode was the end, when Emmett is playing the drums and his dad hears him for the first time, and then Melody joins them. I could totally see them be a family again!
Devious Maids: The fight that takes place between Marisol and Rosie, and then the last scene when they beautifully make up and bond over their sons. The girls pulling together money for Marisol was sweet too.
Definitely agree with Suits, The Newsroom and Under the Dome. And the rest I don't actually know :)
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah Newlin's scene was just fun outrageous-True Blood. It wasn't a compelling scene, but just manic-romp done right (unlike the freaky scene with Bill kinetically draining blood earlier this season)
ReplyDeleteBut I had forgotten the Sam and Sookie scene. I too was good one, but I like it for the way it show's us "who" Sookie would run too if she could. It feels like they definitely winked at the novels with this scene. -Plus I'm not sure if Sam is happy, as much as he feel obligated to do right by someone, considering how many times he has failed others...
I'm a bit confused about The Bridge. What dying girl in the car park? I don't remember seeing that scene in the lastest episode 'The Beast'.

ReplyDeleteFair point with what the relationship with Nicole is but I still have to call bull on the timing and Sookie's whole thought process of telling Sam that she thought her and Sam will end up together. I mean if you want to be with him, be with him now! Lol
ReplyDeleteThe Continuum ending was very powerful. I'd say that was number one for me this week. And on Teen Wolf, the ending where Scott is just totally broken and goes off with Deucalion and poor Stiles is just left standing there. That was sad and powerful, too.

ReplyDeleteThe Fosters: two stuck out to me. One was the scene given here, when Stef and Lena exchanged vows and rings ("You're a piece of work. But you're MY piece of work."). The other scene was when Callie was on the stand against Liam and decided to not take her lawyer's advice to lie about what happened. The speech she gave was pretty powerful.

ReplyDeleteSiberia, Esther plays the group. Esther has shown herself to be resourceful and aggressive in her quest to win. First she allowed Victoria to poison herself and acted all innocent, now she staged a ruse by pretending to pass through the gate, thus disqualifying herself, in order to encourage the others to do it. I really didn't see it coming, nor did any of the contestants.
ReplyDeleteAlice's death scene was too hokey to stir any emotion in me, but the depth of Norrie's faith in the dome as she beseeched it for help to save Alice, that was a revelation.
I know, loved the scene too.

The look on her face after seeing the ring, her gradual acceptance of the truth, and she seemed almost to be shaking with the realization that she was so intimate with this guy. And then she pulled out her gun. We can all wish she'd put him in handcuffs, but that's just Sarah being Sarah.

ReplyDeleteStiles' speech about his dad was awesome. I am not into emoangsty moments and they played that one just right. Deep emotion with a touch of humor when he tells Cora she's easier to talk to when she's unconscious.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Alice's death. You knew it was going to happen and the lady naming her baby Alice was an extra Hallmark moment to me, overly sweet. Just when it was getting too much, Norrie breaks down at the dome and that's when it hit me. Excellent acting in that part.

As much as I did enjoy UtD last week no scene stood really out. I liked Julia and Barbie, and I was moved by the whole Norrie/Alice thing, but over all? "Meh"
