Great episode, glad Andy is finally seeing that Swarek is an ass, and that she came to her senses and went to talk to Nick at the end!!!!! That's what's good about McCollins, the honesty and being open with each other!!!! Good thing she realized it before it was too late! I used to be a McSwarek fan at the begining but now - McCollins all the way and McSwarek can go to hell!!!
I do not understand why people are blaming Sam or calling him an ass. Andy could have said NO!!! she could have called Sam, told him her concerns with Marlo, and stayed with Oliver. She could have done nothing. Sam does not control her mind, she does. So Sam is an ass for helping someone who has a mental illness? Again... Andy could have said no. Don't blame Sam. Anyways, I like McCollins, but better as friends. I don't see any sparks and I'm looking REAL hard. I like McSwarek too. I first started watching rookie blue this season and the first time I saw Sam and Andy together in that warehouse, I knew something was up between, I mean I could feel it. So I watch Seasons 1-3 and was like "I KNEW IT!!" Anyway, I think they both have issues. How they are going to work it out, I have no idea, but we'll see :-)
still don't like Marla. common, I understand the show-runners are trying to make her more likable and get her sympathy with her illness and hunt for pedophile , but she is just not good for the show.
Of course, Andy could have said no, but that doesn't make Sam faultless. He did pressure Andy into going against the procedures and there's no excuse for it.
It might jus be me but when Marlo was talking about being in love it just seemed off and I dunno if that's because she wasn't actually talking about Sam or I just didn't find it very genuine :/ Good episode tho, felt more like old times :)
So... Andy could have said NO when Sam asked, right? No one hold a gun to her head? She could have called him an ass and told her boss, or someone, about Marlo. But, no, she does what he asked and THEN get mad at him?
My guess is that Andy really wanted to help Marlo out. Like she said to Sam, she didn't do that for him. In my opinion the whole season has been weird between Andy and Sam. In earlier seasons the love between those two has been visible all the time, now it seems like they are just letting go. And Sam. It seems to me like he doesn't like being a detective. Or something else is going on in his life because he's really not happy at all.
It is so stupid and and unreal. This season is completely lost. I could not believe you are writing comments about McSomebody seriously. Tassie should find another job.
LOL Let's be honest it only sucks if you are a die-hard McSwareks ;p The tag line did say 'Change or Die' and ratings are up this year compare to last season, not only total viewer, but also demo. Last week's episode was not only higher than S3, it was also most watched since 2010 - so there you have it.
Again... she could have said no and he did say he would do it himself but could not get back to the station before Luke. I'm not saying he's faultless, but hey, when he cares about someone, he's not afraid to break the rules.
i dont believe that andy called him not expecting him to want to help marlo out. rite now andy is temporarily lovestruck. when she realises that collins is her best friend (like a girlfriend) that u can tell everything to, she'll go back to swarek. i have no problem in mc collins at the moment
Really? I don't care about Andy at all. It is shame that this show became absolutely a soap opera for woman. ( You are right - melodramas mostly watched by female ). Men characters are childish and not productive. Some weird elements in the show: 1. Gail's brother never visited her in hospital or after abduction 2. Sam promoted to be detective. He did not solved cases (almost), even abandoned his crime scenes, suspects and operations and still works in police. 3. Generally 15 division detectives are useless. Most cases solved by uniform officers. 4. Nick is absolutely transparent. He has no male friends, which is very strange for afgan veteran. He's just "woman hope for ideal man " - cute, responsive toy. ... So I'm not McSwarek fan, I just prefer some easy police comedy (season 1) versus annoying and stupid soap drama. I prefer hardworking independent strong and professional detective Swarek versus obsessive, unprofessional childish and stupid Sam.
Rookie Blue has never been an 'easy police comedy', it's always been about relationships set in police environment. Even in season 1, you have two hot detectives falling for one sweet doe-eyed rookie, it's only funnier and lighter because the lead characters were rookies and they made funny mistakes like arresting an undercover cop. It does appeal to woman, and I am not going to apologize for liking and fangirling about the show :p
I know right, I can't wait!! Next week is going to be a problem though because football is back on and my team (GO RAVENS!!!!) plays on Thursday. I think I might have to just DVR rookie blue or watch it online because for me when football regular season is on, nothing tops it. Maybe I'll just flip back and forth. IDK
Wow, if nothing else the introduction of Nick and Andy has lit up the Rookie Blue comment sections on this site. I remember last year looking at the comment section for the What Did You Think of Rookie Blue and there would be maybe one or two comments max. Now I've seen episodes or articles where it's neared 50.
I thought it was a really good episode, but then again as most of you probably know, since I've posted on the Rookie Blue sections a lot, I'm a major McCollins fan. But that's not the only reason why I liked this episode-I've felt that in general this whole season the writers have improved upon the mistakes they made in the past and really ended up with a better product as a whole (Nick and Andy have just been icing on the cake).
I'm one of those people that has grown to like Marlo. She could have so easily been portrayed as a hard ass who Sam could be with because she could be emotionally unattached, but still stay in a relationship and kick ass at work without dropping a beat. But I think that the writers have slowly shown her vulnerabilities and she broke my heart last night when she was talking to Andy about why she went off her medications. Partly because it's got to be so hard to feel like you can't have what comes to everyone else so easily and partly because she was willing to risk everything to feel something for someone who more than likely can't return her feelings. It just made me really sad.
I actually did appreciate that Sam was acting like he was acting because he does care about Marlo, but at the same time he did manipulate Andy and it showcased how unhealthy their relationship can be at times. I do believe though that Andy didn't alter the records because of Sam-she did it because she felt bad for Marlo. She's been in love before and knows that it can make you do stupid stuff (like she did when she slept with Sam while he was undercover).
Now onto Nick and Andy. I think a lot of this episode was about Andy realizing that she needs to move forward and that Nick makes her really happy. Her speech to Sam about wanting to be normal, open, and honest was clearly about Nick after what happened in the locker room. She realized that she altered the dynamic of their relationship by not being honest and that as a consequence he was pulling away.
That's what I loved about the turn of events in this episode. They've had such a healthy relationship from the start that even a whiff of an unhealthy behavior (such as dishonesty) and it immediately threw them off balance. Andy said she wanted normal, but a truly healthy relationship really is not. That's because it's so extremely rare (and is what she has with Nick) and that's why I've fallen for them so hard.
So her going and telling him about her day was the perfect ending. It not only showed that she was finally the one pursuing the relationship, but it was so refreshing to not see a relationship driven by drama. I can't count how many times I've watched a show where the writers have ended the episode with the issue still hanging between the character. They count on that being a draw for the viewer to tune in the next week, rather than the viewer tuning in because the couple is actually handling things maturely and you want to see more of that type of relationship.
Anyway now that I've written a novel, I just want to say three more things stood out to me. One I really like where they're taking the Steve and Traci romance. I miss Jerry, but I've been enjoying her scenes with Steve and look forward to seeing what they do with the two of them. Two Oliver continues to be the funniest character (although Chloe is pretty funny too). I laughed pretty hard about the voicemail he left Andy concerning his blisters and chaffing in dark places. And three I felt really bad for Chris. He's obviously trying to move on, but that phone call to Denise really pulled at my heartstrings.
You shouldn't (to apologize) :-). Everyone likes what he/she wants. The relationships in s1 made this show real (more or less). Seasons 3 & 4 are only about relationships, all other aspects of the life and police work fade out. The relationships became weird and obsessive. If you like it - go on, but how you can explain the points I mentioned above?
Good point, that Traci's comment about "the latest McNally crisis". I was wondering about that too. Even if the actual crisis wasn't even about Andy. But then again, Traci didn't know that. I'm also wondering how she is going to react to the Nick/Andy thing.
But I gotta say, Andy has a huge heart. Helping her ex's girlfriend like that, breaking the rules. I'm not sure if I would've done that.
I agree with all that you said and I know that there is still hope for sam and andy who actualy really love each other.. I see nick and andy as two friends using each other. This is what I like about the show, looks realistic. Can't wait for next week I bet Sam will make his move ;)
It's true that Sam and Andy has an intense relationship...but the thing about intensity is it consumes you and burns you out. Now Nick and Andy are fun and if I had to choose between fun or intense, I'd probably pick fun.
Yeah I think Sam is unhappy without Andy. Meanwhile I think Andy is happier without Sam. So all in all I think Andy is better off and Sam worse off but Sam's the one who was a douche last season so he gets what he deserves. I wish Sam could move on properly from McNally and find his own healthy form of happiness and not keep dragging Andy back down.
It was a GREAT eps I enjoyed the way they keep things realistic. I am a McSwarek fan, Nick looks like a kid..him and Andy together is disgusting. When I watch Sam & Andy I feel the love. They are not over, you can see in their eyes how much they care and are both hurting. about their last scene, the fact that she named the things that she likes in a man/relationship says a lot. So cute the way he said thank you.. as if he wanted to cry.. the guy is lost but I think that he'll make his move next eps like Ben Bass said there is Always hope fot these two ;)
This! Well said! :) I like Marlo too and I think Sam-Marlo relations will be good for the growth of Sam's character. Even though initially Sam-Marlo looks like Sam's other uncomplicated non-Andy relations but the revelation of Marlo feelings (in love with Sam) and struggle with bipolar add some weight to the Sam-Marlo dynamics. This is a chance for Sam to do some growing up in dealing with relationships and I hope he does it well. On a lighter note, I didn't think that Peter could top that adorable-heads-over-heels-in-love look that Nick gave Andy when he watched her combing her hair in the morning scene but that look he gave her at the end when she open up about her bad day just top it! It's so 'AAAWWWW' worthy!
I'll admit that the romantic relationship have become a little more prominent, but like @chiremae said, they've always been the primary focus of the show. If you look at season 1 & 2 they had tons of relationships in play, Luke/Andy, Andy/Sam, Dov/Sue, Dov/Gail, Gail/Chris, Traci/Jerry, Traci/Dex, Noelle/Frank, Jo/Luke. And all of that was just in Season 1 and 2. This show is kind of like Grey's Anatomy with cops (either someone has slept with somebody directly or whoever they've slept with has slept with someone else in 15 division-basically everybody has slept with everybody indirectly).
But even now they've done lots of episodes where the romance is in the background for most of the episodes. Like the episode where Sam's training officer accidentally murdered someone or Chris's son was abducted. The fact is though is that most people tune in to the show because of the romances or the friendships (even now they're keeping those going-like the talk between Chris and Dov at the cabin). I know a lot of people prefer the police stories stay secondary to the relationships because there are plenty of other shows out there that cover police work (Southland, CSI, Law and Order, etc).
As for the points you mentioned:
1. Just because we never saw Gail's brother visit her in the hospital doesn't mean that he didn't. Episodes only have a certain amount of time that they can show what they want they want to show. At that point in the series, Steve had only been shown once or twice and was not that important of a character to the viewers-if the same situation were to occur now it would make sense to show him because we've gotten much better acquainted with him and scenes with him would have a much more emotional impact. As it was, the scenes with Traci and Nick used the screen time to showcase Gail's emotional state much better because we had a frame of reference for how she already acted around them when she wasn't traumatized.
2. Sam being promoted to detective is a bit of stretch. But most of the show is a stretch. I worked in law enforcement for years and trained with Police Officers. Almost all of the rookies and officers with the exception of Frank, Noelle and Oliver would have been fired and probably even been facing criminal charges had they actually been working as real police officers.
3. Actually a fair amount of cases are investigated by uniforms or the uniformed officers assist detectives. They don't always solve it, but I figure that there are cases we don't see where the detectives do solve without the help of the officers. So maybe for every case we see them solve, the detectives solve another 10 on their own.
4. Nick has reiterated several times that it's been hard for him coming in to the division and making friends because Dov, Chris, Gail, Andy, Traci etc all came up in the academy together. I can tell you from personal experience that if you have a group of people who all bonded together at the same time over an experience it's really hard to fit in. He knows Gail from the past and he got really close with Andy undercover, but because the show is about this particular group of cops there's no reason why we would see him interact with anyone else.
He has started to get along with Dov and Chris as was seen in the group camping trip and playing paintball. He's also mentioned playing poker with a guy cop, but it's not fair to say that he's transparent and doesn't have any guy friends. He more than likely has some from the army, are other cops we haven't seen, or are old friends. A lot of time the show has to decide what they can fit into an episode-proving that Nick has guy friends isn't worth it when they can do more meaningful things with the time.
the thing about havin a fun relationship in a show, is that after 2 eps of looking at the couple and going "awwwww. thats so cute", u find ur self going "booooring" in the 3rd
Regardless if I am a McSwarek or McCollins fan, Sam is not the type of guy to leave Marlo when she is at a vulnerable point in her life. He is also not a "half-ass" kind of guy. Remembering last week when Oliver said "you gotta tell Marlo.." THAT is definitely not happening. So I am kind of wondering where they are going to go with this swarek-marlo thing... im imagining Sam's (dream boy friend) kind of guy, going all deep in for marlo
That confession about Sam dreaming of a life with Andy made me sad because I knew too that he wouldn't do anything about it. Not after last episode. So maybe Marlo realizes that Sam is not fully invested in their relationship and lets him go. Like Oliver said, I bet Marlo sees it too. But it was a moment of honesty for Sam. I don't think he's ever been that honest to anyone.
I just wish that Sam would be happy. Happy Sam is so much more fun to watch than this unhappy and lost man.
I actually had more faith before "Deception" that he would do something about it. Now, with Marlo in a vulnerable position, there is no way that he will.... soooooo... :-(
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
McCollins is the cutest thing ever! Loved that Chloe called Nick out on it and supports them!
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, glad Andy is finally seeing that Swarek is an ass, and that she came to her senses and went to talk to Nick at the end!!!!! That's what's good about McCollins, the honesty and being open with each other!!!! Good thing she realized it before it was too late!

ReplyDeleteChloe is so observant! She sees everything!
ReplyDeleteOmg this was the most nerve-racking episode ever!! I can't even imagine what the last two episodes are going to be like. Ahhh!
ReplyDeleteOf course, Andy could have said no, but that doesn't make Sam faultless. He did pressure Andy into going against the procedures and there's no excuse for it.
ReplyDeleteIt might jus be me but when Marlo was talking about being in love it just seemed off and I dunno if that's because she wasn't actually talking about Sam or I just didn't find it very genuine :/ Good episode tho, felt more like old times :)

ReplyDeleteMy guess is that Andy really wanted to help Marlo out. Like she said to Sam, she didn't do that for him.

ReplyDeleteSwarek is an ass for even asking her to do it!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode! A lot of nuances on all the relationships. I don't think Sam was written weird, Sam is Sam, its Andy who has change. Their relationship used to be mentor-protégée, Sam was, is the somewhat rogue cop that appeals to the impressible side of Andy, Andy has grow up, she doesn't need a mentor, she wants a partner. Someone her equal, who shares her values and sees the world the same way she does. Andy, with Luke and Sam became use to bottle up her feelings, with Nick she begin to learn to share herself, that's what real couple do.
ReplyDeleteI think Sam is being himself, he is protective of those he cares about. I have no doubt he loves Andy, but he cares for Marlo too, and she is more fragile and she needs him more. I think deep down Sam knew that Nick is good for Andy and vice versa. He saw them being happy together remember.
I also love the change in the dynamic of the relationships among the 'rookies'. Andy id becoming the odd one out, Dov-Gail-Chris ties are stronger than ever, Traci-Gail bonded over Jerry's death and Traci budding relations and the way Traci said 'the latest McNally crisis' was a tad snippy to me. What this do is it'll push Andy even closer to Nick I think. They literally be friends and lovers!
On the side note, I find it interesting that Luke call out to Andy, I wonder if he thought that it was Andy that was involved with the Ford case? You can tell he still has some feelings for her although he's probably resign to losing her.
Again, awesome episode! I do still like McSwareks dynamics but I have to admit I absolute LOVE McCollins!!
LOL Let's be honest it only sucks if you are a die-hard McSwareks ;p

FOR THE RECORD, Mc Swarek has more intensity in their phone calls than mc collins has having sex

ReplyDeleteRegardless if I am a McSwarek or McCollins fan, Sam is not the type of guy to leave Marlo when she is at a vulnerable point in her life.
ReplyDeleteThat confession about Sam dreaming of a life with Andy made me sad because I knew too that he wouldn't do anything about it. Not after last episode. So maybe Marlo realizes that Sam is not fully invested in their relationship and lets him go. Like Oliver said, I bet Marlo sees it too. But it was a moment of honesty for Sam. I don't think he's ever been that honest to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI just wish that Sam would be happy. Happy Sam is so much more fun to watch than this unhappy and lost man.
I actually had more faith before "Deception" that he would do something about it. Now, with Marlo in a vulnerable position, there is no way that he will.... soooooo... :-(
ReplyDeleteI love McNally & Collins! They look great together (and I was a Swarek fan, once upon a time).
ReplyDeleteOh don't flip back and forth. It's not the same haha. Definitely record it or watch it online. Then you get to take it all in & not be distracted!
