I thought the story was a bit convoluted. There were too many things going on at one time. I would have had more appreciation for the Will story, if the Twitter story didn't keep intersecting. I fully understood the Twitter story was the arch to the other story about the teenage coming out, but it was distracting to the seriousness of Will's crisis. The writers introduced us to the framework of the dynamic he had with his father in season one, but his reaction to his father's death was dampened by the storytelling sort of like dipping bread in milk. It was just so soggy. Love, love, love, Don and Sloan together. Hate, hate, hate, Maggie and Jim together.
I wasn't blown away by the episode, but it was certainly a good one.
Now I know Sorkin does great with the big speeches and all but sometime I like his little moments/gestures more. When Sloan walked by Charlie and he just squeezed her hand was easily my favourite part of the episode.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved that it took place all in the 60 min News Night show.

ReplyDeleteI liked the "real time"-ness of it.

I really liked this episode, specially the Sloan/Dom scenes and I'm really happy to see The Newsroom return to the original storytelling (mostly).
