Awesome! I rarely laughed that much during Dexter. "Are you on top of IT, or on top of HER?" LOL. On top of IT, but I guess he wouldn't mind being on top of HER. Idiot. He'll never learn. Fuck Dex! You and Deb just solved some of your problems like 2 eps ago and you already lie to her. For Hannah? Deb was so right. One look at her and you completely lose it. "Dick for brain" ha-ha-ha "Do not dude me" LOL "Fuck me! Gloves!" "You're both still breathing, that's a good sign" "Who the fuck are you?" Who the fuck are you?" Shit! I never before laughed that much during an Dexter episode. "Dude. You got girls fighting over you?" We were only missing Vogel at that motel and it would be a perfect family picnic. Some people collect stamps or porcelain cats, Vogel is collecting serial killers. Everyone needs a hobby. I still have problems believing that it wasn't Zack. I mean, how did his blood, his DNA, get under Cassis fingernails? When he left (and she was alive) they didn't even touch. They pointed out, someone set him up (his car, the blood under her nails). Makes no sense. It would have to be someone who not only had access to his car, but also knew he was a suspect killing Nora/Norma. And of course someone with a motive. His dad? Damn! Zack made me laugh today and now he's dead. Too bad. I'll miss him. He was funny. Could Vogel be the surgeon? I suspected her at the beginning. And now … She was the last one to see Zack alive.
Dexter and Hannah always trying to screw each other. First he tries to send her to jail for life then she poisons him and bam they are back having sex and to answer Deb's question: He's on top of HER. Hey, she's hot. All men have 2 brains, I guess even Dexter
I do hope Dex and Hannah make it through the season, I may be in a minority of actually liking them. Although I do hope Deb lives too, but I'm fearing at least 1 Morgan sibling will be dead by the end of this.
The episode was good, not awesome, but good. Glad Deb seems to have closed the book on her hatred for Hannah. I'm sure she'll never like her, but not wanting her dead and possibly accepting her with Dex is a good thing.
And damn, just when I was starting to like Zach. At least we'll get back to the Brain Surgeon Big Bad for the remainder of the season. Pretty obvious who it is now, but still with the reveal (hopefully) next week we'll get a fast-paced race to the finish to see who survives and who winds up at the bottom of the sea.
I don't know for sure, but it seems obvious to me that Quinn is framing Zach for the murder to redeem himself. Assuming that's true it complicates things for Dexter even more because now Quinn knows Dexter is lying about not finding any evidence linking Zach to the crime(blood under the nails), and he has to wonder why?
In the episode Dexter wondershow Zach's blood got under Cassie's nails… and if someone messed with Zach's car door handle, so that Zach would cut himself and bleed on the handle, so his blood could be planted on Cassie to frame him for the murder. You don't need access to a car for messing with the door handle.
Terrible episode, by far the worst of this season so far.
I was wondering if someone ghostwrote that episode for Wendy West, whom I don't remember as writing such remarkably stupid and constructed dialogue.
There were so many scenes in this episode that made me go "ugh..", especially dialogue-wise. Hannah and Dex in the car with their "what do you call me at night" banter, then Dexter walking into a room that is so obviously an imitation of his practices, and what does he say/think? "What is all this?"
Everything that came out of Zach's mouth.. should have provoked Dex enough to go "Shut the hell up you stupid kid." .. I mean come on .. "gloves! damn!" ...sigh =)
All the other strings were boring as hell. The Vogel/Dex scene at the beginning, Quinn's aimless interrogations, Jamie's tears... not even mentioning that nothing made sense. Why would Deb let her boss hunt Hannah down? Sure, she hates her, but that puts them all in danger. What if her boss decides, hmm let's investigate what she and her brother have to do with Hannah. Doesn't she expect something like that would be quite possible? And why not just hunt her down herself? She knows the location, why does her boss need to know it too? Go grab the money yourself, weird Deb!
I have forgiven that show a lot already, but this episode was so far down on the show's quality meter that I have to rant like that xD and just for the record, I enjoyed every other episode this season so far.
Of course it's easy to manipulate the handle of the car and I know that you don't need to get INSIDE the car. But you have to get TO the car. Zacks dad is rich (did you see the palace they live in?). I doubt that his car stands somewhere out of sight. They sure have security. Cameras, guards. And I also doubt the car was standing somewhere at the street (where anyone could get to it), but probably on the property (driveway or garage). So you probably had to get past a guarded or at least secured gate. That's what I meant by "having access to the car". And don't forget, the real killed needed access to the car at least twice. First, when he/she manipulated the handle, and the second time when he/she collected the sample (to put under Cassis fingernails).
Though it was a bit slower than the previous episode i still enjoyed it. I feel bad for Dexter that now that he wants a future and a family...it's too late. I'm really having a bad feeling for Dexter, i don't think he will survive. Just when i was starting to warm up to Zach... I really liked his relationship with Dexter. Zach: Dude!! Dexter: Don't dude me! His character had potential. Gutted he's dead. :( As for Debra i'm really happy that her character showed some maturity. And who would have thought that out of all the people Hannah would be the one to put sense into her. I know she will never like Hannah but to leave her alone for Dexter's sake is something. It's time for her to move on as i said before. Join the force again (as we see in the next ep) and make something of her life. For once i'm not pissed at her. :D And Hannah and Dexter...well it was pretty much their episode. I guess we all knew here it was going...well i'm really happy for Dexter. :) and Hannah. And how creepy was that dinner...Honestly Dr.Vogel creeps the hell out of me everytime i see her. For Dexter's sake i hope she's not the Brain surgeon. P.S: But WHO THE F*** is the Brain Surgeon??
Ok,so the only purpose of Zach's car was to stand well guarded on his father's property while Zach takes the bus? *ironic* X)
No,ok i'm serious now. ;) Twice is a little bit tricky but not impossible cuz Zach used his car to get from A to B like everyone else. He needed to park somewhere. He parked outside of Dexters appartmentbuilding for example. He takes photos from accidents(and in that moments he doesn't think about his car).
I understand if some people are not as much in love with this season as I am, as it does feel a different season in the sense that a bit of the tension is lacking. However, I am loooving this season and this episode was just AMAZING for me! Seriously, like all the "family scenes" of Dexter-Zack, Dexter-Zack-Hannah and Dexter-Zach-Hannah-Vogel were instant awesome. I loved them. "Don't Dude me" should be an instant classic for Dexter. Also, holly crap at that scene between Hannah and Dexter, I don't remember seeing such an intense Dexter sexual scene before. I love their relationship. And the ending.... I really didn't see it coming, I have no idea who the brain surgeon is.
I think it would make for great dramatic irony if Vogel was the Brain Surgeon. As much as I don't want that to be the case...if it were, I wouldn't be disappointed.
Of course the car is not always in the garage. And of course Zack was not only at fancy places with guarded parking lots. But that would mean that the real killer had to follow him (probably for days) till he got 2 opportunities to get to Zacks car. Or, the killer is someone who knew exactly where the kid is going and when. The second case would again mean, that it had to be someone close to him.
If not, the killer followed him for quite a while. Which means, he probably saw Dex and Zack together.
I wonder if the car does have an alarm. I mean, the car is probably worth more than some people earn in a year or two.
We're not arguing, we're discussing things.
But I will begin to argue if don't tell me what information you have on the next ep!!!!
Please. I don't mind knowing. Would I be on this site, if I would?
So here's my theory I have to share because today it struck me. Did anybody notice that the song "Make your own kind of music" was playing when Dexter found Zach AND when Yates broke into Vogel's house? Vogel herself put the record on in Ep.5. Plus, it's next week's episode title. Could it be that Vogel is the mastermind behind all this? Maybe she and Yates worked together and the parts of brains sent to Vogel were merely gitfs or proof of his work. And when Yates saw Dexter he thought Vogel found herself a new, a better partner and he snapped. Now that Yates is dead, Vogel could have found herself another helping hand. And regarding the title, after years of analysing psychopaths and watching, she finally took matters into her own hands, she now makes her OWN kind of music.
I found the latest episode rather good, kind of like a chamber play - a happy family of lunatics eating together. Who knows whose brain was in that food... A shame Zach's dead. I finally started to like him.
So that's my theory. We'll know the truth when the time comes.
You're thinking in the right direction and once you know who the real killer everything will be more logical i think.
Sadly the spoilers i've read are not on this site and if i'll post the link here it gets probably deleted cuz it's to spoilery. ;)
So i could point you in the right direction or you could check out here on this site http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/08/dexter-episodes-810-812-synopsis.html DarthLocke4 spoilt some things and if i remember right,i did too. Or you ask google and type in the keywords 'dexter saxon' The second link 'www.game....' is where i got some spoilers from.
From what I've read, most people treated the short scene at the end with her and the piece of brain as a "reveal" that she is indeed the big bad.
Now, looking at her job (getting into people's heads) and her general over-friendliness and arrogant supermother behavior, I think it's pretty obvious that she is bad or has some evil stuff planned at least. It would make more of a reveal if she WASN'T the brain surgeon.
If I remember correctly she was also in the morgue fumbling around on some corpse in the second episode, which is not at all what her job description asks for (or permits). So I guess that more obvious reveal has been foreshadowed already, pretty heavyhandedly at that.
Then again the thing with the music, what you mentioned. TV people know that song is tightly tied to LOST, so maybe that's some hint at that Vogel has lost herself in her struggle for ... whatever? Changing people to become her tool for revenge or something =)
About Deb. She let Jacob Elway help her because she likes him. (She will let him impress her) and somewhat true to form, Deb thrives on attention and when she doesn't get it from Dexter (or Dexter is giving it to someone else) she tends to start playing emotional games. I'm hopeful though that we won't be stuck with this Deb at the end of series, because I do feel like she hit a major turning point this season with Vogal's help.
Which brings me to say that the characters are no longer in the same places. Once we hit the end of season 6 we veered off into unknown territory in terms of the way characters were before, especially for Dexter...So I wouldn't expect him to do what he did in the past. He finally has admitted he has emotions and it's making him more openly sentimental. When he looks at Zack he sees himself and all the things he wished he could of had.
Dr. Vogal is really "Dr. Vocal" and I feel strongly that she is written to philosophically remind us what the series has always been about: people with major problems and their rights of passage. IMO she is as big and equal of a cliche' as Dexter is, because she cares for others, but yet sometimes her need to connect, be important, and/or general curiosity can get in the way of the better part of herself. She reminds us to think about our actions (which will be ironic soon enough) and the subjectivity of reality, but also she brings things full circle, as season one laid Dexter's belief system on his father figure and his father's failures, as now Vogal acts as the mother figure, which reminds us of mothers lost (Laura, Deb's mom, Rita) and possibly (this is just theorizing on my part) mothers gained...
I think the episode title "Are we there yet" represents "frustration" and I think all of these contradictory things have been in the series all along, just not in one episode. It's about trying to figure out a [final] destination and where everyone is going to land, which is ironic since we just have 4 episodes left. It's meant to feel rocky and senseless, because that is always what Dexter's universe has played at...a fate that is bigger than all of them.
I think Dr. Vogal isn't super bad. In "Every Silver Lining" she's genuinely upset about the his and her packages. I'm not saying she's perfect, but I think she's in parallel with Dexter and his emotional outlook. I think she wanted there to be a future for people who have problems, problems that aren't initially her patients fault, but like Dexter, sometime goes about it the wrong way, or just like anyone, can't prepare for all the unforeseen consequences of her actions, which is what the season is getting down to.
I think she might be quite the opposite - a voice of support where none is actually appropriate. We as viewers might like and sympathize with Dexter, but in general we shouldn't make the same mistake as the writers and think of him as a hero, because he still is anything but. To me, she's a venomous snake who pats those on the head that do her bidding or follow her viewpoint and she exacts revenge on those who don't. Like when she was a hostage and went all nice and lovely on the bad guy, only to beat him and have him murdered.
Disagree. The song "Make your own kind of Music and the association Vogal has with it is the writers way of telling us EVERYONE has a voice that is important ("Don't let them tell you, that there's no song worth singing"), and really kind of sticking it to us, saying we're telling you this story wether you like it or not, because we believe that Dexter and most of the characters represent some experience: a slice of life and that we should care and consider everyone's place and/or circumstance.
I think her thing with Yates saved her life and it took great bravery to do it (it also parallels Arthur Mitchell yelling at his children and flashbacks from "Red Dragon", which "Red Dragon" is referenced in season 6.) --But no character is ever the exact same way twice, except for Angel and Matsuka, which is another reason I believe Vogal is exactly like Dexter, just a little more intellectual/well seasoned, because no one else has ever been that close to him.
There are other things I know, but I can't say them.
You're still writing her as "Vogal" :\ .. it's Vogel =) sorry again for being overly corrective and so on, whatever hehe.
And sorry again for not being on the same line with you here, to me Vogel is the exact opposite of a sympathetic, lovely character that is supposed to be a mirror. She's obnoxious in many ways to me, and not because I hate women or anything remotely like that xD .. I think the character is being portrayed in a very sinister way, sometimes more open, sometimes more latent. Just like the way she was acting in the dinner scene in that episode, with her ever-analyzing eye, playing every card to steer the game in the direction she would like, without actually considering if it would be of help to Dexter or rather be another thing that could lead him into an early grave. They didn't pick that actress for no reason, I mean look at her. At least I don't look at her and think "oh, well she looks like a lovely lady!" (even if she did once http://i.imgur.com/zk7K4hk.jpg =)
Anyway, you know more about what's to unfold, so it's UNFAIR for you to argue with me right now and I demand some innocent opinion for myself. Pah! ;D
Just kidding ^^ you know I like to take on your opinion and hear yours on mine. It's just that I need to sleep and so I have to say goodbye for now! Let's at least hope the next episode is SOMEWHAT more exciting that last Sunday's snoozefest ^^
Yes you're right it's "el". Sorry about that. (but my metaphor still sounds)
Imagine what Dexter would look like to someone who could not hear his thoughts and go through his life with him...He would be pretty unsympathetic too. He would come off a little demonstrative or people would wonder about his cognitive abilities, because he reacts so poorly and unresponsive some times, which in that respect Vogel reacts better, she's more philosophically aware and better able to explain the human psyche.
But just because someone isn't all warm and fuzzy, doesn't mean they're bad. Just like all teenage boys who looks like they're gonna kill someone, don't always do...The writers having been really leading people down false paths IMO.
It is unfair for me to argue with you right now! I've honestly have been trying to come at from a what is currently known perspective.
I don't disagree that the episode was slower, but because I know some of what's coming, I can really enjoy these scenes and laugh at stuff that will be more ironic later...
It's cool. I understand why someone wouldn't trust Vogel. I don't think she's easily likable on the surface. I think like the philosophy she prescribes she's a character who I think resides on that fence of the unknown, but I think like Dexter trying to have a life, despite all of his mistrials, she too is worth something of some goodness.
The song surely means that too, which is why Vogel is so important because she's a big peice of what has made him this way, even though I know Dexter has already changed...(he hardly follows the code anymore...season 7 was dreadfully scary because of it. And he clearly cares more about other people...)
Good night! I think the next 2 eps will be more fun! :)
In that case I'm doubling down on my out-of-character murder theories and saying it was Jamie in the next door apartment with a bludgeoning instrument. Perhaps a candlestick.
Remember the Brian Surgeon knows who Dexter (The first piece arrived wrapped in "butcher paper" and then the next 'pair' came in "his and her" gift boxes) is and that he had helped Dr. V!! There's an additional twist with the character that goes hand in hand with a season one plot.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Boring episode with an awesome cliffhanger (again).
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's gonna get really complicated really quickly
ReplyDeleteThis season is so hit and miss it hurts.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I rarely laughed that much during Dexter.
ReplyDelete"Are you on top of IT, or on top of HER?" LOL.
"Dick for brain" ha-ha-ha
"Do not dude me" LOL
"Fuck me! Gloves!"
"You're both still breathing, that's a good sign"

Yeah the entire episode I was waiting for something to happen. All dialogue with average substance.
ReplyDeleteReminded me of the Naked Gun sex scene, where Leslie Nielson just pulled his whole suit off in a second.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is trying to solve a case to prove that he is a better cop. But I don't think that he would kill for it.
ReplyDeleteTrue! xD

ReplyDeleteI think it would make for great dramatic irony if Vogel was the Brain Surgeon. As much as I don't want that to be the case...if it were, I wouldn't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteWell it better not be Jammy.
ReplyDeleteThey were. I really liked how they were bonding.
ReplyDeleteHahaha how did they got undressed so quickly? All i saw was their tops going off and the next i know...wow it was so awkward to watch.
ReplyDeleteDon't think you're in the minority.
ReplyDeleteMe too, bummed that he died.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think it was awkward to watch so much, it was just... Intense! I don't even remember Michael C. Hall getting naked on the show before
ReplyDeleteHer reaction upon seeing Zack's brain seem to suggest that to be impossible.
ReplyDeleteWith no words, her face was hard to read actually. It could of been shock/depression or it could of been admiring her work
ReplyDeleteOf course the car is not always in the garage. And of course Zack was not only at fancy places with guarded parking lots. The Brain Surgeon is a guy named Saxon we'll meet him in the next episode
ReplyDeleteWe've already met Saxon, it's Cassie's boyfriend
ReplyDeleteLast season. With Hannah.
ReplyDeleteToday I'll stop lurking.
ReplyDeleteSo here's my theory I have to share because today it struck me.

@Misses it's fine to post the link. We're a spoiler site :)
ReplyDeleteOk,thank you. But it's really a very spoilery spoiler and as i posted it yesterday it got deleted after some time. ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, no idea why it was deleted. It should not have been .
ReplyDeleteAs long as you put a warning like "Potential Big Spoilers in this link" that is fine.
Haha, hehe sry i take it back cuz it's still there. My post. Maybe i was to tired to see it yesterday. XD
ReplyDeleteHa, no problem :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. :)
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read, most people treated the short scene at the end with her and the piece of brain as a "reveal" that she is indeed the big bad.

ReplyDeleteWhich brings me to say that the characters are no longer in the same places.
"Dr. Vogal" is actually "Dr. Vogel" (I see this misspelled all the time xD), which means "bird" in German ^^
ReplyDeleteI think Dr.
ReplyDeleteYep he used 'the girl next door' to get close...
ReplyDeleteno I meant it as a pun/metaphor not in any literal sense.
ReplyDeleteI think she might be quite the opposite - a voice of support where none is actually appropriate.
ReplyDeleteDisagree.
ReplyDeleteI think her thing with Yates saved her life and it took great bravery to do it (it also parallels Arthur Mitchell yelling at his children and flashbacks from "Red Dragon", which "Red Dragon" is referenced in season 6.) --But no character is ever the exact same way twice, except for Angel and Matsuka, which is another reason I believe Vogal is exactly like Dexter, just a little more intellectual/well seasoned, because no one else has ever been that close to him.
There are other things I know, but I can't say them.
The Brian Surgeon is......:P
ReplyDeleteYou're still writing her as "Vogal" :\ .. it's Vogel =) sorry again for being overly corrective and so on, whatever hehe.
ReplyDeleteAnd sorry again for not being on the same line with you here, to me Vogel is the exact opposite of a sympathetic, lovely character that is supposed to be a mirror.
ReplyDeleteImagine what Dexter would look like to someone who could not hear his thoughts and go through his life with him...He would be pretty unsympathetic too.
ReplyDeleteXD ..Nooooo,her lipstick. ( Now i hope you did mean that jokingly ;) )
ReplyDeleteIt would have been funny tho'. I meant if Jamie killed her with a gigantic-lipstick....or a candlestick.^^
ReplyDeleteLOL! this was the best conversation of day!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell me. I'm good around spoilers. ;)

The Brian Surgeon is Oliver Saxon. (Cassie's former boyfriend).
Hehe, thank you. Since we sadly won't get a Zach Spin-Off we need to improvise.^^ XD
ReplyDeleteHmmm so he got close to Cassie to keep an eye on Dexter??
ReplyDeleteRemember the Brian Surgeon knows who Dexter (The first piece arrived wrapped in "butcher paper" and then the next 'pair' came in "his and her" gift boxes) is and that he had helped Dr. V!! There's an additional twist with the character that goes hand in hand with a season one plot.
ReplyDeleteReminded me of the Naked Gun sex scene, where Leslie Nielson just pulled his whole suit off in a second.
