What's with all the focus on hook. He's a minor character that most people don't even like.
ReplyDeleteI dislike them all but if I had to pick I'd choose the third with the apple. I like the apple because its been used alot in the show for various characters but the face looks weird. The face should have been cut off closer to the eyes or not at all.
He's a series regular and he is biggest link we have to Neverland, considering Bae is separated from 'the core group' again...
ReplyDeleteI like the third the most, but I'm guessing the second is the most relevant.
ReplyDeleteI'm not entirely sure why they suddenly want us to ''pick'' one poster for them to use. It's not like they didn't release about 20 character posters for the first and second seasons... They made them, so why not just use them?
I like number 2 Hook & Hook, I think the others don't make a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteI love hook but I agree the posters should feature all the main cast.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on FB yesterday and I wasn't sure what the point is either, unless we are voting on like the DVD/Blu-ray promotional art???
ReplyDeleteWhile the third one is nice, I like the second best and is probably the most relevant with the Hook/Neverland happening most of this season. I don't understand the Regina with a hook one.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they really go overboard in promoting Hook. I don't chose either of them because the first half of the season is about finding Henry, so the posters should be of Neverland & Henry not about Regina & Hook.
ReplyDeleteI like the third one the bet. I think the one with Hook doesn't look very natural
ReplyDeleteAgree, B's the best.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. Also, annoys me those fangirls who want to pairing Ariel with him, if they know the true backstory of this little mermaid would know that her mother was killed by pirates.
ReplyDeleteI don't like any of them. Regina with the apple gives the wrong impression about the third season. She's already used it to put Snow under the sleeping curse and used up the rest of the apple in a turnover that Henry took a bite of at the end of the first season. Regina behind the hook doesn't make any sense. And Hook with the hook also doesn't make sense since the start of the third season is supposed to be about saving Henry from Neverland. The one they used at Comic Con was better or doing one with the cast using what they said about each of them in their video they used at Comic Con - A princess, a pirate, a wizard, a queen, a knight, a savior.
ReplyDeleteThe third one because the shadow on Regina's face in the first looks weird and to have only Hook on the OFFICIAL SEASON 3 poster is just wrong no matter if you like him or not.... and seriously they couldn't do better for the official poster.....?
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a great idea! I don't why they insist on putting only one character on their poster for a show with such a huge main cast...
ReplyDeleteOk..my thought is they are all not representing the "core" characters in Season three. A poster showing the core characters straing onward to Neverland would have been a much more worthwhile course for ABC to have taken. Heck, the fans have been making their own invented posters that are better than these!! The apple was already used in season 1...and again, we are going to Neverland here!!
ReplyDeleteThe third one is the best in execution. Hook's eyes look ridiculous and he's overpromoted. They should have at least made posters of ALL characters with that hook.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big fan of the individual character posters (for this show) myself. I'm looking forward to the promotional-group-art, because I think they're always more interesting. They're more atmospheric.
ReplyDeleteTechnically Hook is very much about Neverland though....
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly!
ReplyDeleteThe posters and promo pics for the show in general have been very average, leaning on actually bad....
ReplyDeleteI like #2 the best because it fits the theme of the season the best.
ReplyDeleteThey're going to Neverland, Hook is the Neverland mascot and as a character, he is the only one who can "work" the hook.
Regina in the hook theme doesn't fit.
The one with Regina and the apple if nice, but at this point of in show it's dated....
Can't say I've been aware of a significant fan backlash to Hook.
ReplyDeleteDissapointing for me. Why not something with Robbie Kay and shadow of Peter Pan? We know these characters (Regina and Hook) and they don't need to be in center place of poster.
ReplyDeleteWe will probably see a Nealfire's poster too because these two characters are regulars now.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I think they're average. I don't hate them, but always feel like they could better. I liked last seasons individualized ones because they played to magic within Storybrooke stuff and there was a lot of personality to them. Like Rumple knitting in a masculine lounge chair, or Emma in knights armor and sword out while standing in a pink room full of princess dresses, while her red jacket hangs on the wall, or Regina all sultry and almost mideastern looking on her office table or Belle dressed up as if she was off to ball, but hanging out at Granny's, Red walking a wolf in the dark, ect...
ReplyDeleteDesperate Housewives, OUAT..........ABC likes apples.
ReplyDeleteI know Hook is a part the Neverland I meant the first half of the season is about going to Neverland to find Henry so the poster shout be about Henry & Neverland that's what the poster should be about.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the concept of last year's characters promo shoot was interesting, but I wasn't sold on the quality of the end result.
ReplyDeleteSome were nice but over all even that photoshoot was filled with hit and misses.
I think, your point about each of them bringing in something unique to the group is pretty much what the individual posters depict: each one should reflect what each character is about.
ReplyDeleteWhich is another reason why I think Hook and his hook is a fine character poster.
But yeah, Regina and the apple is dated at this point of the show. The need to find a different way to show the "queen" bit....
That's a little hard to depict though. The idea about the whole of the cast looking out to Neverland that was mentioned further down is probably the best way to show that, but it's also fairly generic and unless you know the show then it doesn't really bring your attention to what's going on.
ReplyDeleteAlso there is the fact that since a lot of people don't really like Henry, using him in a promotional poster wouldn't really help wit promoting the show....
So the choice is Regina, Hook or Regina again?
ReplyDeleteNone of the above. I'm really tired with the show being all about the bad guys last season.
The purpose of promotional posters is not just to promote,
ReplyDeletebut get a message across. Promotional posters for the next season of a TV show
need to give hints about the over-arching theme of the upcoming season. So, it
really depends on which message they want to give out. The messages I get from
them (from left to right) are:
LEFT
1) Hook will try to control EQ or;
2)Hook will try to kill the EQ or;
3) Hook will try it on with the EQ (and fail).
MIDDLE
1) It's all about Hook. Hook is the main character
2) Hook will become the next big bad, and he will be
especially dastardly this season.
RIGHT
1) It's all about Regina, good or bad. Mostly likely bad. Either way, she is the main character.
2) Regina is the next big bad and she will be up to her usual tricks...perhaps she will be more powerful in Neverland than in Fairytale Land, and it will involve a lot of apples.
The best poster is the one that is sending out the right message. If the interpretations above are all wrong, then none of them are suitable.
I like the poster with the apple and eyes. It looks cool, and centralizes what this show was originally about, the good vs evil, Snow vs Evil Queen fight. Dude looks good, but the show isn't, and shouldn't be, about Hook only.
ReplyDeleteI do not know if u saw the fiasco this year with ABC and the original group pics. They were so awful, ABC pulled them right away...lol. They are now re-issuing new and much better individual prints, that thank goodness, are not rehashed. Some one at ABC Publicity is not too bright with promotion for this show this season.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes I did and I commented on them too!
ReplyDeleteI love the group shot ala LOST, but ya those individual one's were pretty bad, despite that I can perhaps understand the concept....My comment here was more over that in all three shots (the group photo, the individual one(s) that ABC took back, and this new poster) all make Regina look other-worldly and part of me hoped it's because there is something transformative going on with her, rather than the strangest make-up job in the history of promotional photos XD
