NBC has put in development three projects from pods,
drama Time To Time , from writers Byron Willinger & Phil
Deblasi ( Paradise Lost) and Doug Liman & Dave Bartis’
Hypnotic; drama Ricochet , from writer Micah Barnett and
Maria Grasso & Deborah Spera’s One-Two Punch; and an
untitled comedy from writer Will Calhoun and Scott
Stuber’s Scott Stuber Prods. All three hail from Universal
TV.
The high concept drama Time To Time is about two star-crossed police officers, separated by 27 years in time, who work together to solve murders. Willinger, Deblasi, Liman and Bartis executive produce. Willinger and Deblasi, repped by Verve and Madhouse, are primarily feature writers who just wrote Skyscraper for Universal Studios and producer Neal Moritz, with Paul Walker attached to star. They’re currently writing Equinox for Voltage Pictures. Hypnotic is with CAA.
Ricochet is a high-concept serialized action/thriller about a professional hitman who is trapped in a coma and forced to serve as a guinea pig for a secret NSA espionage program; a project that uses technology discovered while researching near-death-experiences to send operatives into other people’s bodies. Tripp Vinson (Intelligence ), Grasso and Spera executive produce, with Barnett co-exec producing. Barnett, repped by Benderspink, WME and McKuin, Frankel, Whitehead, has feature The Rabbit set up at Warner Bros. with Chris Tucker attached.
The untitled Wil Calhoun project is a workplace/family comedy about an old school competitive college football coach who seeks redemption in the New South. Calhoun exec produces with Stuber and Quan Phung.

ReplyDeleteI myself will see how they treat Believe and Dracula before I get excited about any other prospective new NBC series.

ReplyDeleteFrom early reviews, Believe is getting a mixed response. I only recall one review on Dracula thus far and well, it was pretty scathing.
ReplyDeleteRatings may tank for both of these shows but I think "Believe" may survive out of the two of them.
When first hearing about the concepts I was far more interested in Dracula, thinking that we were going to get a scary horror show back on TV. Now after watching the promos, I agree Believe has more potential. It will all come down to whether the kid is a brat or not for me. It seems to be very hard for TV writers to make appealing kids these days. Such a shame. If Believe can nail the kid character I can see it going far,
ReplyDeleteFor me it's the opposite, because the more information about Dracula's that leaked the more it seems like it's less focused on romance and more focused on the story with the secret society and Dracula's revenge, and based on what little we can see in the footage I think I'm going to like Jonathan's portrayal of him. Plus, while I could be wrong I just think that with Daniel Knauf being the creator I'm really going to love the mythology, and it seems like they've added a lot in that regard.
ReplyDeleteAnd on a purely superficial level every single shot in the promos looks fantastic and the reviews confirm this, I love shows that are cinematic in style and scope. It could fall totally flat this looks like it will the best thing on NBC other than Parks and Rec.
"Time to Time" sounds a little like "Awake". I give them stones for trying something like it again.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see that NBC is still trying. I just hope the production values step up on "Believe" and that more people come back to "Revolution" and "Hannibal"...
I'll be back for Hannibal for sure, I will give Revolution a fighting chance, but it better start hooking me, I want to "want to" watch Believe, but I am getting a "Touch" vibe from it, and that is putting me off. There is always an issue when you are working with a child as your protagonist.
ReplyDeleteI get a get a FRINGE vibe from it (like cortexiphan children!), as AC revealed at the NBC upfronts that there is more than one person out there with kinetic abilities, just that Bo is special and represents "Innocents" (I also think Tate is Bo's biological father and doesn't know it yet)

ReplyDeleteI can see where the secret society thing would be a draw. it most certainly beats romance. For me the downfall is that instead of being a cool horror show it feels like another sympathetic monster story. I guess I was just hoping for some show with real scares.
ReplyDeleteYeah I definitely see your point, I would love that a lot. But I can't deny what I hear about this show appeals to me, a couple reviews mentioned lots of action and fight scenes, plus it looks extremely serialized. My hopes lie mainly with it being big on the mystery and action given as much attention as melodrama. Time will tell.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the movie with Jim Caviziel and Dennis Quaid, that they were son and father and were communicating via an old radio in their home from different timelines and were solving the case of a serial killer? Frequency? That's what Time to Time reminds me of. It could work... maybe... but I'm not holding my breath....
ReplyDeleteDitto on Ricochet. Seems a little too high concept and gimmicky to be successful, but it could be pleasant surprise....
Though I'll say this: come decision time either one of these two or none of them will make it. I can't see NBC launching two new high concept genre shows the same year....
The comedy could be cute.... execution will be key here....
