CBS is putting in development a drama series about a fictional female Secretary of State. Madame Secretary , from Joan Of Arcadia creator Barbara Hall and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life. Hall is writing the project, from CBS TV Studios and Freeman’s Revelations Entertainment. She is executive producing with Revelations’ Freeman, Lori McCreary and Tracy Mercer.

  1. I've got a The Good Wife vibe from this series, great drama and well-received between the critics.

  3. This could be very well done or very "meh", but we sure could use something West-Wing-y qualitywise nowadays on tv.

  4. Is Morgan Freeman the president?

  5. In theory, it sounds like it would make for a good companion of TGW that's for sure... if it will be that good remains to be seen.

  6. Not something I will watch, I get enough politics every day.

  7. Whenever it involves the White House, us The West Wing fans have mixed feelings. I'd so love to have something like those Bartlet administration days back, but, at the same time, I'm constantly fearing the new show will be a disaster and totally not live up to expectations.

If it's based on whom I think it's based on, then this will be one of the first new CBS shows that I won't be watching. Not a chance in hell.

  9. Well, it IS very hard to be compared to the West Wing, because it was gloriously awesome and absurdly well written and acted, but if they manage to do something at least similar it would be a big win and I would probably watch it.
