Don’t Trust The B—- creator Nahnatchka Khan is
back at ABC with a new single-camera comedy. The network
has handed a put pilot commitment to Fresh Off The Boat,
which Khan is writing/executive producing. Jake Kasdan also is
exec producing the project, which hails from
20th Century Fox TV where both Khan and
Kasdan are based. Based on Eddie Huang’s
memoir, Fresh Off The Boat is set in the 90s
and centers around a Chinese family that moves to Orlando,
FL. This is a setup Khan can relate to as she too is a first-
generation American whose parents were “fresh off the boat.”
Kasdan’s producing partner Melvin Mar also exec produces the
project, while restauranteur/TV personality Huang serves as producer.

w00t! First at FOX and now ABC, Kahn is on fiirr-uh. Glad to see we may get TWO comedies that could be as funny as Apt 23 next year.
ReplyDeleteInteresting I loved Don't Trust I hope this lives up to that show.
ReplyDeletefull of cliches and slightly racist thats what comes to mind here
ReplyDeleteConsidering it may be semi based on her life I don't see how it can be racist at all.
ReplyDeleteI have faith because of Apt.23.
ReplyDeleteBut objectively there is the fear that as a show, it can fall victim to stereotyping. Fingers crossed it doesn't fall into that trap.
