Doctor Who - 12th Doctor Announcement This Weekend

There's rumours on twitter that the new Doctor will be announced in a special Doctor Who Live broadcast on BBC One this Sunday at 7pm. Fans in America will also be able to watch the unveiling live via simulcast on BBC America.

    Apparently BBC are going to announce the programmes at midnight. I hope its true I need to know, I remember when they did it with Matt and no one had any clue it was going to be him as he was pretty unknown.

    is it too much to hope that Moffat will step down too? I think its fair to say that his time has ran out.

    I just don't know who would replace Moffat, like when RTD was due to leave it was clear Moffat could be a replacement but I can't think of a writer who could do it apart from Toby Whithouse (Being Human) but he has a new BBC show in the works. Because Moff has dominated the series no clear successor is out there, though maybe getting someone completely fresh in would be a good idea.

    Yeah I guess he could be an option but then I think one of the reasons Who has been merely good rather than excellent in recent seasons is because Moffat has been juggling Who and Sherlock, would be the same issue with Gatiss. But I imagine he would be a choice for the BBC.

    Its quite clear that Moffat has grown bored of DR.Who.



    his SHERLOCK is a masterpiece, don't get me wrong. but apart from his first season, Moffat's DR.Who seasons have grown to be incredibly messy and directionless.



    Getting a fresh writer for a fresh take of Doctor makes sense(especially if we would get a female doctor, as Moffat just can't write empowered females in any way possible and feels the need to either turn them pregnant with plot babies or sending into the past).

    I hope the Doctor is not a woman. The Doctor has always indetified himself as male. He talked about other Time Lords changing their gender and though he considered it normal, he never applied this notion or need to himself. He has never even hinted at being genderqueer or questioning. He is as close to cis- as possible for a Time Lord. All he has ever wanted was ginger.

    Sherlock is in production five or six months out of any two year period. He writes two scripts and co-runs it, but he's on an 11 month production schedule with Who. Listen to him speak about Who and it's clear: He loves it. Sherlock is barely a factor most of the time.

    Yeah, for better or worse the Doctor has a very firmly established sexual identity. It'd be too much of a stunt, and not well aligned with most of The Doctors character development.



    I think we're more likely to see a black Doctor, though I'm not expecting anything.

    He's never run a show solo before, the BBC tend to go for people with more experience, esp with one of their flagship shows. I'd say Chris Chibnall (thou he's now tied up with Broadchurch in the UK and USA), Howard Overman or Toby Whithouse would be a safer bet in the eyes of the BBC.
