DirectTV Issues Press Release in Support of Time Warner Cable

3 Aug 2013

"Just like the characters in CBS' Under The Dome, all pay TV customers are feeling trapped and helpless as broadcasters expect them to absorb ridiculous rate increases for the exact same programming. In trying to protect our own customers, DIRECTV has certainly had its share of these battles, so we applaud Time Warner Cable for fighting back against exorbitant programming cost increases. We are also appalled to learn that CBS is now punishing DIRECTV customers, who may happen to have Time Warner as their Internet provider, by denying them access to CBS content online. The conduct of content companies in their efforts to extract outrageous fees from distributors and consumers may have reached a new low."

  1. So i'm guessing Directv/CBS will be one of the next disputes.

  2. And here is the other side. Looks like this is just going to get more and more nasty in a public battle of words. Guess I'm glad I don't have Time Warner, but I feel for those who do.

  3. If it goes on much longer, my guess is that the government will get involved.

  4. Now we have to figure out who is being honest.......ah I give up. Big companies are just money grabbers period. They need more competition to put them in their places.

  7. So it's not TWC that pulled the online content it's CBS? Am I right about that?

  8. You are right. CBS blocked anyone using TWC High Speed Internet from accessing the site. One of the reasons we need net neutrality. I'll get off my pulpit now.

  9. I for one am so fucking pissed off right now!!!!!

  10. Okay, this has nothing to do with you, and don't you dare take away my CBS, DirecTV! I miss Comcat so much.

  11. This is why I like Comcast: I have yet to hear about disputes they have had with networks. If they are greedy like DirectTV and TWC appear/have appeared to be, they don't make it obvious.

  13. This might turn out quite messy...

  14. I use Dish so don't have a dog in this fight, but last year I did and was siding with Dish. The cable and satellite companies are just trying to keep their rates low and I am all for that. The way it is set up I am paying for many channels I never watch, wish we could pay for what we want instead of all these channels few people watch and if people had a choice most would dry up and go away..

  15. And I was thinking about eventually switching to them too! :/

  16. I just got off the phone with a non human. They will credit us for the days we miss, but the are also giving us Starze and Encoure to shall we say quite us rowdy folks down.!

  17. Starz is pretty decent, but showtime it ain't. Showtime has the best TV series in my opinion. Encore is like a bunch of old movies, it's not bad, but definitely the least of all the premium channels available.
