Cop Drama from Shonda Rhimes, Dana Calvo and Betsy Beers put in development at ABC

7 Aug 2013

Shondaland has set up another horlong project at ABC, police drama from Made In Jersey creator Dana Calvo. (Given her showrunner duties on Grey’s and Scandal, Rhimes is not expected to be writing a project herself this development season .) The untitled Dana Calvo project, co-produced by ABC Studios where Shondaland is based, is set in Miami and follows an unorthodox detective and his methodical new female partner as they solve cases that only seem to happen in the neon wilds of one of America’s most eclectic and vibrant cities. Calvo is executive producing with Shondaland’s Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

  1. what, exactly, is a "horlong" project? (I'm sorry I can't help it)

  2. Oh yay, a cop drama! That is one creative, original, inspiring project that surely is thinking outside of the box. Truly a unique project..!

  3. ABC already has Rookie Blue. I'd say that's close enough to a Shonda Rhimes cop drama as it is.

Can't she just concentrate on making Grey's good again? UGH!

  5. lol grey's is down the tubes, near cancellation. She hasn't focused on the show since season 4-5. After it's gone next year, Shonda's name will disappear and then she will wonder.

  6. Lol, Grey's is no way near cancellation, it's ABC's highest rated drama.

  7. You don't get much farther from the truth than a statement like that

  8. Even if Grey's gets cancelled Shonda still has Scandal so I don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon

  9. I'm not a fan of cop dramas....especially all the procedural ones on CBS. However, I might actually watch one that was produced by Shonda Rhimes.

  10. I will always check out Shonda stuff. As much as I hate her sometimes, I love Scandal, Greys and PP

  11. Shonda is a talented lady. Love Scandal, got bored of Grey's, but will always peruse her stuff.

Yeah, let's just ignore that GA is not getting cancelled and that Shonda's other drama Scandal is rising in popularity.

  13. They probably just misspelled "hourlong" wrong.

  14. So how will this stand out from the kajilllion other procedurals out there?

Do we really need yet another cop show? Do we really need yet another Rhimes show? No and No. The woman can barley keep Grey's from going down the pan as it is.. her own cast are desperate to leave.

  17. Ugh, next dull procedural with 'oh sweet Lord, there is a lot of sexual tension' detectives.

  18. For me the fact that it is being produced by Shonda Rhimes is easily a huge reason why I won't bother with it...

  19. *nods* And frankly it at least doesn't try to pass itself as a TV masterpiece. And it's that honesty and humility which actually makes it better than any cop show Shinda Rhimes could ever put on the air.

  20. ABC should let her keep her focus on her current shows. At least wait for one of them (probably Grey's) to end/get canceled before they give her a new one...
She's already flaky and hit-and-miss as is. If she stretches her any thinner it could get reeeeeeeally ugly.

  21. Yes, the lack of self-indulgence and melodrama go a long way toward keeping RB in check.
