Valkyrie" opens in the moments immediately following Castle pulling out the ring, allowing the characters to discuss how serious he was and how it sounded like he was breaking up with her but also allowing the audience to get her answer immediately. But then it catapults the show-- and Beckett-- in time and distance to her new FBI training, where she isn't the self-assured, always hero she has been within the NYPD. Instead she makes mistakes. Big ones. She has to relearn a lot of things and rid herself of other habits. She is no longer looking at evidence but intel, and the instincts that made her such a good detective, caring about victims and witnesses and hostages, can and will trip her up in the bigger leagues. It's great to finally get to see a different side to Beckett and some different vulnerability from her, too, even if it is a bit short-lived. It's even better to see her play off Lisa Edelstein, as her senior partner who seems to see a lot of herself in Beckett, flaws and all.
Castle has always been a procedural, even if a character driven one, and this episode is of course no different. Therefore, it doesn't take long for Castle to pack up for an impromptu weekend with his lady in D.C. and just "happen" to stumble upon a piece of evidence in her classified case. Like the overgrown child that he is, he decides he just has to investigate even when told not to. It's out of sheer curiosity and the hope that if he helps Beckett solve it fast, they'll get more time together (you know, not realizing, even after all of this time, there will always be another case and the ones she is working now are matters of national security) so he calls up old pals Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever) for some very minimal aid. It's a way to get the gang back together, but again, in a very minimal way. It gives Esposito and Ryan some brief face time but not anything real to do. They're basically sounding boards, and that means extensions of scenery. It's a shame and will be a huge waste of their talent if it is a long-term plan solution to keeping the original cast active.

Wow.... Full review was VERY spoilery. Granting I read between the lines a bit, but I think that full version may actually have been too much info... Of course, I'll only know for sure after I've seen the episode, and find out whether what I think they were saying was really what they were saying!
ReplyDeleteI found it refreshing. I love spoilers.
ReplyDeleteI agree but I think what they weren't saying was really what they were saying. But even if it was, I think that it will be fun to see exactly how it happens and how the discussion plays out. I am one who believes that AWM knows what he is doing and the creativity of he and the rest of the writing team will win out in the end.
ReplyDeleteLove this ones. So , resuming:
ReplyDelete-Castle and Beckett will discuss the proposal, if he is serious or is just insecure.
-She won't be they shniy detective anymore. Lisa will help her to choose the best way for her life.
- Kate will accept the proposal and they will spend the weekend together, where they'll have some alone time after the case. (and they will have sex, i read it in the other spoilers)
-the team will sorta reunite again
Im loving this. will be the best season :D
Oh, I definitely trust Mr. Marlowe! I'm only surprised how much of the plot the reviewer is letting out before the air date, but honestly, they could have spelled out in detail of every scene, and I'd be just as eager to see it for myself.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised too and it kind of made me sad. Also, his tone didn't sound all that positive, it seemed as though he didn't particularly enjoy the ep. I guess I'll just have to watch for myself, darn! Only 26 more days!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wasn´t expecting so much and I kinda of regret reading it! I should have had more will power to stay away of spoilers!:)
ReplyDeleteAbout the tone not seeming too positive, I´m not worried as to anyone its own liking; in other articles (and less spoilery), the reviewers seem to have liked the episode a lot - actually I remember at leas one refering to it as "shiny". So, yeah, I just can´t wait to watch it myself:)
Ok, the review was edited to supress some spoilery parts. Does anybody have the original review? It is very non spoilery now :(
ReplyDeletedont forget this was a screener review. this is where they can still make changes which is highly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteNot reading the whole thing.... I'll stay strong!
