Arrow - Season 2 - Casting News - Navid Negahban cast as Al-Owal

Thanks to sandy4dee for the heads up.

Arrow has cast its latest big bad for season two and it's one of TV's ultimate baddies: Homeland's Navid Negahban, who played the terrifying terrorist Abu Nazir during the Showtime's hit first two seasons, is set to take on the role of a new villain named Al- Owal, we can exclusively confirm.

And Awwal isn't just your average foe as he has major ties to a group of baddies DC Comics fans know very well, which also connects him to Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Oliver's (Stephen Amell) biggest adversary in season one of the CW hit series.

Negahban will first appear in episode five and is described as a formidable foe thanks to membership in one of DC Comic's most infamous group of bad guys. Meticulous, driven, and deadly, Al-Owal, whose name in Arabic means "The First," is after someone very close to Oliver. Oh, and the man knows how to handle a scimitar.

DC Comics fans will surely geek out over Al-Owal's debut episode's title: "The Demon's Head," which is the name of Ra Al Ghul, one of Batman's greatest foes (played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins) and the head of the shadowy League of Assassins, which Al- Owal is a member of. Guess who else was a member of the League? Merlyn, who planned The Undertaking to destroy the Glades.

  1. That should be fun!
I've liked Navid in everything I have seen him in and he makes a great villain...
I might like to see him play an average Joe or a hero sometime though honestly!! XD

  2. Could be good. But I wish they would have used Ebeneezer Dark instead of making up someone.

  3. I like it.... I also like that it kinda sorta maybe opens up a possible "Bruce Wayne" mention/intro/reference/cameo in the future....

  4. Now that is some good casting. Yeah, it's probably typecasting at this point but I'm glad they cast him anyway.

  5. E! Online has the wrong title to 2.5. It is called League of Assassins not The Demon's Head. http://www.greenarrowtv.com/here-is-the-correct-title-for-arrow-2-5-league-of-assassins/14792
