Cobie Smulders is poised to have a grand start to the 2013-14 TV season.

The actress on Sept. 23 will launch the ninth and final season of CBS' How I Met Your Mother followed on Sept. 24 by a high-profile cameo in ABC's Avengers follow-up Marvel's Agents of SHIELD .

Smulders is set to reprise her Avengers role as Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel drama from Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. She signed on as a cameo in the pilot as the Command Center boss to Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg ) -- who was mysteriously brought back to life the character perished in The Avengers.

While Smulders is contractually obligated to How I Met Your Mother , the actress remains open to returning to ABC's SHIELD.

"I'm up for it, it's just a matter of the direction that they decide to go with the show," she tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I don't know how much they'll be at the Command Center and how much they need me around. If it works out organically with the story line, then I'd be happy to come in but I truly don't know."

  1. I hope she is in it more but I understand that SHIELD, Maria and Nick Fury play a big role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier so it may make sense for her to be in S2 of Agents of Shield after Cap comes out.

  2. I would love for her to become a regular on the show, once HIMYM ends.

  3. Maybe a recurring role this season and regular role next season? Yes please. :)

  4. Captain America: The Winter Solider is a big giant S.H.I.E.L.D.-movie. The best parts about Captain America in the comics is with Winter Solider and modern day stuff with S.H.I.E.L.D. Basically S.H.I.E.L.D. has a major role in the movie. Hill does not have big role in the movie as Fury, The Winter Solider, Falcon, Cap and Black Widows. Probably as much as Avengers, or even less.

  5. I would like to see her appear frequently on SHIELD. Maria Hill kind og gets overshadowed in the movies because she hangs out with the big leagues there.

I would love for her to get development on the show.

  6. Yeah I figure the SHIELD plot is going to possibly effect what happens in Agents of SHIELD or at least explain why people like Hill and Fury aren't around in the TV series (because they are too busy dealing with shit in the films)

  7. Depending of how the group works in AoS, I don't know if I want Maria Hill as a regular arriving at the second season.

But is a pacing and storyline thing, her becoming regular should have to respond to a necessity to keep her around, and that would most likely happen if the AoS team "failed" in some sort of way, and Maria, as a superior of Coulson, would have to come along to fix it.

What I'm getting at, is that Maria, being basically the second in command, would need a very good reason, and her arrival as a permanent part of the team would shake things up dramatically (it should at least) so it kinda seems like season 3 material to me, after we have established our core characters and their dynamics. But it is an already built world, they could get that right in one season, and bring Maria the next one to shake things up?

Regardless, I think that Maria needs to be a constant presence, albeit not a regular one (at least at first)

  8. I can see her as a recurring character throughout the run of the show, even though I would love it if she did eventually become a regular. But I get her feeling of wanting a break and something different after 9 years on a show.
