Syfy has given a cast-contingent pilot order to 12 Monkeys, a drama series based on the 1995 Universal Pictures/Atlas Entertainment film directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. The 60-minute pilot, produced by Universal Cable Prods. and Atlas Entertainment, was written on spec by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett ( Terra Nova). It follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Filming is tentatively slated to begin in November. Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven ( The Dark Knight Trilogy), who produced the feature, and Richard Suckle will executive produce, with Matalas and Fickett co-executive producing.

What does "cast-contingent" pilot order mean?
ReplyDeleteAll that stands between a script and a green light is finding actors that the network approves of to fill the lead roles. These are handed out to pilots when the network determines that the right lead can make or break a show.
ReplyDeleteOh wow okay, kinda guessed as much, thanks. So if they can't find the right actors, the show won't see the light of day?

ReplyDelete12 monkeys was such an awesome movie! I'm excited but I'm also suspicious of the writing team chosen for that project: Terra nova left a bad taste in my mouth ...

ReplyDeleteInteresting, I am curious how this will be written to possibly go further than a season... it's been some time since seeing the movie and don't recall it well, but seem to recall that it was pretty close ended
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw "Terra Nova," I lost any shred of positivity I had for this potential series.
ReplyDeleteWell actually the ending was pretty much the beginning of the movie, so if they want to mess with time travel they can do it for a few seasons.
