I think I feel the same way honestly. The freshness of Star Wars A new Hope was so compelling and it was just so much better than anything else at the time in its genre. I think Empire Strikes Back was the apex of the series, the best combination of FX, story and acting and sadly It was the last film of the series before Lucas began catering more to the children than the adults taking them to the theatre.
My personal favourite is Revenge of the Sith. Everything from start to finish is staggeringly brilliant. Especially the fight scene between Obi-Wan/Grievous and then Obi-Wan/Anakin.
The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are my favorite, but since everyone harps about the Ewoks I'm giving Return of the Jedi my vote. I liked them. However anything with Jar Jar Binks was a definite no for me.
Empire Strikes Back is the best IMHO! Brought the first trilogy together as a story onto it's self, Luke SkyWalker's destiny, why the "(Sith) Empire" had to fall, and who Darth Vader really was made this epic journey into a "Epic Adventure" - My childhood thanks you George Lucas! 4 A SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE, I am Nobody!!!
Based on novelty, performances, and complete story-telling, the original Star Wars film, "A New Hope" wins hands down. I know this isn't fashionable with Star Wars junkies (who seem to prefer "Empire"), but if you put away the films for five years or so and then watch them (in order of course, and with time to reflect), you'll likely find this to be true. Maybe people choose Empire because they saw New Hope 7,000 times and got sick of it, or maybe it was the stark worlds they presented? But let's face it, as much as I enjoyed those things and the dark qualities of Empire ("dark" is cool, you know) it's ending lacked the punch of New Hope and its story wasn't nearly as tight either. New Hope's story is always moving forward, each new scene a revelation that keeps our investment in the story growing, until we can't help but be all-in. It's a really tight, lean script and story. Let's hold up a new hope (sorry, couldn't resist) that JJ Abrams can find some of that magic in the next trilogy. Episodes 1-3 were comparatively dreadful.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Easily and by far The Empire Strikes Back!
ReplyDeleteThe best Empire Strikes Back. My favorite A New Hope.

Episode 4. Why, honestly because it was the first one I saw. I'd say the simple nostalgia factor elevates it.
ReplyDeletereturn of the jedi plus empire strikes back and revenge of the sith loved anakins turn to evil
ReplyDeleteMy favourites are A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi!
ReplyDeleteVery easy choice.... Empire Strikes Back

ReplyDeleteStar Wars or 'A New Hope' as they're calling it now.
ReplyDeleteThe first film in any series is usually the one that remains in my heart, even if those that come after are more up to date.
Empire Strikes Back
ReplyDeleteA New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
Return of the Jedi
The Phantom Menace
The Empire Strikes Back!!!
ReplyDeleteFor me its Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back.
ReplyDeleteEmpire Strikes back.
ReplyDeleteMy next two choices would have been Return of the Jedi and Attack of the Clones.
Love Star Wars (or A New Hope), Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and don't like second trilogy (I, II, III movies).
ReplyDeleteEmpire, by quite some way!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you. I prefer the original cuts too....stop messing with classics Lucas!!
ReplyDeleteI liked the ewoks too! -And those two films are my top choices, but I also liked attack of the clones...
ReplyDeleteCool. I think Ewoks get a bum rap in the Star Wars community. They helped take down the Empire too.
ReplyDeleteI know, right?!

ReplyDeleteEmpire Strikes Back.
ReplyDeleteTied for a reeeeeally close second: RotJ and NH
The original Star Wars. That would be A New Hope.

ReplyDeleteClearly Episode 1 is the best. The first movie is always the best. I vote The Phantom Menace.
