    I think there is a strange phenomenon of whenever a show is very successful ratings wise (especially if unexpectedly), people will hate on it.

    I'm pleased but I'd rather this series be a mini-series just like "Harper's Island". I have a feeling that the more it drags, the more it loses its charm.

    Crap. Under the Dome should've been a mini-series but of course CBS won't turn down extra cash and now they're going to make it another show with stupid twists to prolong the story.

    They said before the show even premiered they were planning on more than one season, though. That's one of the reasons they changed stuff from the book.

    I have to be perfectly honest about this, I don't know how I feel about this yet. This is one of those shows where I don't think it should go on more than what feels natural. How long can this city stay dome-d? They will eventually run out of the essentials, such as food, drinks and water. 13 episodes in season 01 so far seems to cover a lot of issues, I don't know what kind of issues a second season could give us and I just don't want it to go out in misery. If they manage to keep the show at top quality the remainder of the season, then I will keep an open mind on a second season, but as of now, I'm just scared for how the show will turn out.

    This one was a no-brainer for CBS. Of course they had to renew it with those ratings. Very glad they are keeping it in summer and that it will only be 13 episodes though. I don't think it would as well received if it were a fall or midseason show.

    Yes, the show runners and Stephen King have mentioned multiple seasons for as long as I have seen interviews for it. I heard the have a three season plan but I'm not sure how many episodes that contains.

    I've missed that entirely then, I'm too used to hearing Stephen King adaptation and just expecting a mini-series haha. It's good to hear and looking forward to new stuff from the show

    Renewal was expected given the ratings but the news doesn't thrill me either. Evidently in the "revamped UTD" the Dome produces its own atmosphere and rain ... (see promo for tonight's episode) so the Dom-ees can in theory plant more crops for food and the livestock will reproduce. Sure, medical supplies will run out but there are handy dandy herbal and naturopathic remedies that some enterprising residents may found growing in the area and some people might die from disease or injury where modern treatment would save them but what makes this "UTD" any different from a pre-modern civilization?
    Much of the drama in the book - outside of the horrific climax- was caused by their dwindling supply of essentials, including breathable air. Not that the series can't come up with new dramatic situations but without any "urgency" that the book had, I can see the UTD TV series devolving into 'soapy mess'.

    Decent show but come on CBS will do nothing but ruin this, it will either be canceled on a cliffhanger or run 10 years. Les's comment "why can't they stay under the dome for years? It's television!" was disgusting and a perfect example of how lame CBS is.

    Ha! They do seem to do that a lot to King. I am very excited to hear he is writing the season 2 premiere. How interesting it must be to write for your characters again but in a world different than the one you made for them.

    I disagree. I think the reason people hate on this show's renewal is simply because we don't want it to... well, fuck up, in the second season. So many people love the show right now, and 13 new episodes may be enough to drag out storylines and make them boring. Part of why I have loved the series so much is how it all moves at such a fast pace, so many things happen in every minute and every scene. If they drag things out for numerous episodes, then the storylines will get more and more boring and people's love for the show will eventually fade away.

    I don't want to agree with you, but I have to. Most of my experience from CBS is they only care about the money - there's no heart or love for a series. They renew a show until they can still make decent money off it, and then it's "Fuck off!" even if it hasn't gotten a proper ending. My favorite series from them was cancelled after so many years, with no proper ending, and I still haven't forgiven them. But I just can't avoid watching UTD though, it's awesome at the moment (and I hope that doesn't change!)

    True although Haven has very little to do with anything in the Colorado Kid story Stephen King wrote. There is hardly any resemblance between them. I think it may be the very loosest of the loosely based upon King works.

    The question is are they still sedated under the dome. That's the only way I can explain how calm most of them have been so far. I think the dome pumps something into the air.

    I've read that complaint from others as well. I don't think that UtD has done a very good job of emphasizing just how little time has passed since this all started. It has only been a couple of days and people generally are very adaptive, at least for short periods of time. Once the long-term prospects of what life will be like under this thing sinks in with people, sh*t will start getting real. Then again, from the promos for tonight's episode, it looks like pandemonium will come sooner rather than later.

    I don't think the timing has anything to do with panic. They were faced with an unknown threat and have no idea where it came from, why, or when it will be over. They have no way to get help either. That alone is enough to make people panic. Plus anyone in there who has ever seen a disaster movie should be hoarding supplies by now. They are far too calm for people with a newly uncertain future.

    Except for the electricity, they're not really in need of much help just yet. It's when you start stripping away the trappings of everyday life and any semblance of normalcy is being stripped away, that's when people will freak out.


    When given the slightest opportunity, people will rationalize anything. It's a standard coping mechanism. People are still going to work, they're adhering to standard social customs, they're trying to go about their lives as normally as they can. There will come a time very soon when life will become too difficult (food, water, power, hygiene/health issues) and the town can't sustain the illusion of normalcy anymore. That is when the collective freakout will begin.

    I disagree. I think that the initial shock of the dome should have had people freaking out for several days. Then they would go into the calm you described before hitting a second panic stage when they realized they were in serious trouble.

    really don't see how they can drag out "extinction event of the week" for another season.

    Ep1 - we'll all die stuck under the dome
    Ep2 - fire might wipe out the town
    Ep4 - meningitis will wipe out the town (but thank god for tv generic "anitbiotics" that cured everyone in a day, that sure was lucky)
    Ep5 - the mother of all bombs will wipe out the town
    Ep6 - the food and waters running out and it will wipe out the town

    it needs to be more than what its becoming....and the acting/dialogue needs to get a lot better (Deputy Linda "I have a permanent cold" Esquivel I'm looking at you) and even despite it being a show about a town trapped under a dome there are an awful lot of big and small logic holes that just always stand out.

    maybe I'm just spoiled by all the much better shows out there...i want to like it....but it needs to pick its game up...

    oh and..."gangnam style" seizures.....seriously?

    and the lesbian mothers from LA who are an african american and a hipster, diabetic doctor, how many stereotypes can they shove into one couple?

    True, but I am at my suspension of disbelief limit right now. If they try to tell me again that the dome is a sentient being I may have to start viewing this as a sci fi comedy instead and make up my own wacky theories.

    I know this is a TV show, but it focuses on a "real" town. So, if we take that to reality, and say that my town was trapped under a massive, transparent, indestructible dome... yeah, I'd pretty much freak out completely just knowing I am trapped. I am not even claustrophobic, but it's an insane feeling.
