True Blood - Seaons 6 - Rob Kazinsky Interview

6 Jul 2013

The Hollywood Reporter: How worried were you about playing a new love interest for Sookie? Because fans are extremely passionate about her love life.
Robert Kazinsky:
I know that no matter what I do, I will be rejected by Eric and Bill's camps. I know that I am fighting an uphill battle from the very, very start just by being somebody different. However if they give Ben a chance, maybe they will see that he might be the best thing for her. Over the course of the season, you are going to see that there is a lot more to him than what meets the eye in the first few episodes. He is the first real chance that she has for happiness. He is the same as her: ostracized, lost, a fairy. He offers her a chance to actually be normal for once in her life with somebody who truly understands her. So, I think after a little while if people could kind of get over their hate of the fact that I am usurping their favorite character, they might actually grow to like him.

THR: What was the audition process like?
Kazinsky:
It was pretty good. It was just two auditions. I just went in and did a reading with Anna. From the moment I read the character I was like, "I’ve got this. This is so me." I just knew from the minute I read it that I could play this character and that it felt really right to me. But I am determined to masculine up the fairy genre. I am a 200-pound hairy fairy, and I kind of want to be less Elton John and more Justin Timberlake.

  1. I'm bored of his character already, to be honest. I don't think there's much point in providing Sookie with romances that the audience ultimately knows won't work out.

  2. I like him and find him intriguing. The actor makes good points since I agree, Sookie has been unfortunate in having someone understand her (even though I think Eric does truly love her).
The only issue I might have is Eric dies and Ben is somehow the responsible, then this new love interest will feel like a betrayal. For all we know he could be Warlow...

  3. He's never gonna convince the hardcore sects of Eric/Sookie shippers of that mess. I'm not Eric/Sookie or Bill/Sookie, but the less fairies they have on this show the better. I always hated that stuff in the books and it's not any better on the series. Too bad she's grown so far apart from Sam, because I love the book take on that relationship - Sam/Sookie.

  4. Certain fans are gonna bitch and moan no matter what, ultimately as long as the show continues to make money no one cares what they think.

  5. Hah! He must have been chuckling to himself all through the interview, knowing what was actually coming.

  6. I think the show's been a lot better this season. I like the core characters are almost all in SLs that focus on the same thing, or are closely related to the same thing, like the Eric/Bill/Sookie SLs will easily intersect at some point. Then Andy's kids became part of Bill's SL. The only one I'm not giving too much of a damn about is Sam's. I don't know what the hell this show did to Alcide over the summer, but I can't even like him after the last two eps.
