Revenge & Firefly made sure of their place in Round Two in fairly comfortable fashion, seeing Spartacus and Desperate Housewives into an early grave as Round One sees itself pass the half way mark.
Today sees one of a few peoples favourites for the title, Beauty and the Beast, taking on Bones in a tough Round One battle. Also Teen Wolf and Hannibal battle it out for a chance to progress in their first attempt of winning the STV competition.
For anyone who missed the rules, here they are again:

As much as I love Teen Wolf, I have to give my vote to Hannibal. One of the most brilliant and highly underrated shows ever.

ReplyDeleteTeen Wolf all the way. People had been recommending this show to me for 2 years but I kept putting it off because of the horrid name and the fact that it was on MTV. Let's just say that I left my teens and MTV when they were still playing music. Eventually I bit the bullet and I was instantly addicted. The pilot is full-on action and there is no faster-paced, action-filled show on TV. It's a continuous adrenaline rush with characters I actually care about. If anyone has avoided this show because its name or network, I strongly urge you to give it a try. It is not some brainless teenybopper show, but a solid, genre win.

I'm sorry for the fans of BatB, as I too watch the show, but quality wise, Bones gets my point. As for the other battle, both are good in their own way. I don't know, probably going with Hannibal. Teen Wolf though. I DONT KNOW

ReplyDeleteGuys i love Teen Wolf, it really tore at me that i had to vote against it as, next to The Walking Dead, i wanted it to win the whole thing last year. But there is just something about Hannibal. Hugh Dancy's chilling and heartbreaking portrayal of Will Graham, Mads performance of Hannibal which is just so precise. I never would have believed after the pilot i'd pick it over Teen Wolf, but it just go so darn amazing.
What's the point on voting down the comments made by beasties? Stop with the hate people, I LOVE Bones and Beauty and the Beast, so what, are you going to voting me down too because I like BatB? Really: stop with the hate to other fandoms...

ReplyDeleteIt's not just Beasties getting down voted, look at all of the comments on this article. Almost 95% of them have down votes in them. Whether it is Hannibal, Beauty and the Beast, Bones, or Teen Wolf... just ignore it and don't let it get to you. All of the people (or just 1) who are down voting IN ANY article just because they don't like the show mentioned or they don't like someone talking about the show in the comment are cowards. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI am voting you down but I wanted to explain why to perhaps change your focus. No one is saying anything nasty about Beauty and the Beast fans. No one is being immature or hateful to the show or its fans so I have no idea why you are making it out like they are. All fandoms are encouraged to comment here and no one has said otherwise. It actually feels like you are trying to start something by being so defensive for no reason and makes you look immature, not others. If you are upset about the down votes, then just look. Everyone has downvotes no matter what they voted for. It is nothing personal, just people who voted differently. If it were only BatB fans being downvoted then I could maybe see your point, but it isn't.
ReplyDeleteAll this comment did was assure that I will NOT be voting for Beauty and the Beast. Quite frankly I don't watch either show in the first poll, but Bones disappointed me and the BatB fandom reminds me a little of the Supernatural when we were fighting to keep our show on air. I only hope that in the future you avoid the mistakes the SPN fandom made, which ended up making it pretty much hated throughout the internet. Comments like this do not help your cause. Instead you would be better off explaining why people should try BatB. This contest can do a lot to get new people to try your show IF you focus on explaining what it is that makes you love it so much. It helps even more if you give multiple reasons for people to try it. For instance, almost everything I have heard is about the awesome romance. Since romance isn't my thing, pushing the Murfield aspect or even the criminal procedural aspect would be more likely to capture my interest. Any way you do it, you will get a lot more respect and maybe even some converts if you focus on the show in your comments instead of coming off as defensive and insulting.
It is not hate to specific fandoms and if you look, you will see that everyone has downvotes no matter what they voted for. Comments like this do not help your cause or put your fandom in a better light. Think of downvotes as shorthand for not agreeing and don't take it personally. You had a great opportunity here to explain why people should try Beauty and the Beast if they have not already, but you wasted it to rant at people who probably aren't even looking at your comment. There is no better way to create new fans of the show than to use this contest as a forum to explain exactly why you think others should try it. People who like all kinds of TV participate in this contest and many of us use it as a launching pad to finding other shows we might like. I tried The Mentalist, Walking Dad, Veronica Mars, Firefly, Castle, The Vampire Diaries, and many more because of fans passionately talking about their favorite shows during previous contests. Don't miss your chance to convince someone by posting bitter comments.
ReplyDeleteMy heart actually hurt when they screwed over Zack like that. It was not cool and it almost made me leave the show. Bones was never the same for me afterwards.

ReplyDeleteI recently turned 41 and I thought I would be way too old for it too, but it surprised me. I rarely pay attention to the music so that isn't a problem for me. (Well except the Ave Marie screeching in the last episode for dramatic effect. That one was too much for me.) Other than that I love how they show respect for each character so they are not stereotypical and how the parents are shown as important as well. It creates a great balance. I'm not saying that there aren't some aspects that I deep sigh and move on through, but over all there is so much packed in to an episode that I feel like I just finished a top-notch roller coaster at the show's end each week. Frankly it outdoes both Burn Notice and Nikita together in the amount of action it has and I thought that would be impossible. As someone who adores action over drippy emoangsting, it has become one of my favorite shows.

ReplyDelete#2: even though Hannibal is on my "to watch" list and from what I know and have seen from the show I can asses it is objectively better in quality, I voted Teen Wolf because that I actually do watch, and rather vigorously at that...
I stuck it out for a few more seasons after Zack left in hopes of them bringing him back to no avail and then the show shifted in tone and it just wasn't for me anymore. Haven't watched in a long time but the cast is brilliant together and I will forever use the term squint, I just don't watch anymore.

ReplyDeleteI did too but then quit when the show started revolving around will they/won't they and my answer was, "Who cares?" Sometimes I miss Hodgins who was always one of my favorite characters and I loved Angela, but even they couldn't entice me back to live viewing. One day I will catch up, probably once the show ends. I will never forget the first Gravedigger episode though. That is one of my favorite episodes of any show. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteA solid lack of both. By a majority of accounts, it seems that Hannibal is a moody, nuanced triumph of broadcast television, especially for NBC. I just didn't feel like adding another show of its ilk to my queue.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree about The Gravedigger episode. I think it's the best episode of the series and my favorite one of it as well. How David Boreanaz didn't get nominated for his performance in that episode surprised me.

ReplyDeleteI don't watch either Hannibal or Teen Wolf so the second one is a skip. The first one is an easy Bones. Even though I haven't finished this season yet and I don't like it as much as I used to (I don't think that is the show's fault, the episodes are still good, it just feels a bit tired to me being a procedural). I watched like 3 or 4 episodes of Beauty and the Beast and while it wasn't awful, it wasn't enough to keep me going either and anyway, longevity usually means a lot to me in these and I do love the Bones characters for 8 years now.

I haven't seen Hannnibal yet either, but it's not my kind of show, so I'll give my vote to Bones though it's beginning to feel a little tired now.
you should really give it a try ( BATB ) ...it might be really slow at first and you're gonna have to be patient for like ...half of the season but it's definately worth it...it changes a lot in the second half..it becomes very interesting and veeeery intense as soon as the first things are starting to saw up ...now we are all waiting for the second season and it seems like the show it's gonna have a lot of action going on from now on :) :) <3 :)

ReplyDeleteHey Adam, slightly off topic, but are animated shows allowed in this competition? For the past couple of years, I've never seen any of the popular animated shows in this tournament. I'm surprised Private Practice and 90210 qualified for this competition, yet popular animated shows such as The Simpsons and Family Guy didn't.

ReplyDeleteI originally didn't want to watch because i thought it would be a cheap knock off of the 1985 movie, (yes i am an 18 year old who actually knows/likes that movie.) but i gave it a try anyway, and the show is amazing. Every signal character on their is attractive, even the parents. And yes, I'll say it, I even have a bit of a girl crush on the lead girl Allison, played by the beautiful Crystal Reed. The entire cast is amazing and they all have great chemistry together. Every one gets along and are like a family on and off set. Two of the leads even joke that they are like a married couple and say they will be each others best men. The show is out standing and had the perfect blend of humor, horror, action, mystery, and romance. It is incredible amazing and suspenseful and will truly keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. I have been a fan of the show since episode 1 of season one. The show is now in its third season and going strong. Over the past 3 years, the shows fan base has grown and we are all die hard for this show. Everyone has their ships and root for that pairing. The cast of the show has a chemistry and is perfect together on the show as their characters and as friends, as well as the shows plot line, filled with twist and turns that confuse the audience and are not in the least bit predictable. It is a Romeo and Juliet story where the main male character (Scott) is a werewolf fallen for a girl (Allison) who comes from a family of werewolf hunters. There are killings going on through the town, Scott's best friend Stiles's father is the town sheriff unsure what his son is keeping from knowing it involves the murders, though Stiles is hiding the fact that his best friend is now a werewolf and helping him figure out who is doing the killings. To break down the killers, Season 1: A werewolf, Season 2: Kanima (a lizard creature that can paralyze you with its venom) being controlled by a teen boy with anger/mental problems. Season 3: Alpha pack and/or Darach. An Alpha wolf is just like the Alpha of a regular wolf pack. A Darach is a play on Celtic mythology. To some it up, everything about this show is amazing and i highly suggest you give it a try.

ReplyDeleteone of my favourite episodes , that made be in the edge of my seat all the time but also made me cry was episode 18 ..totally one of the best episodes..and the finale was a big wow in the end of it ( the last scene was an ''OMG'' moment ) the entire season worked things out and prepared us for the plot in the second ..I don't know if you've checked the comic con at all ..but if you did , we are going to figure out a lot of things about muirfuild and there are new ''spicy'' characters coming that are going to shake things up in the second season ...I don't know-not to mession that Vincent will be ''super charged'' after muirfuild got to him in the end- we have no idea about how we are gonna see him in the second season..I think that you should check the whole season for once-since it 's summer time anyway , you'll have time - :) :) ... I don't know I hope you'll like it ...If not thank you for giving it a chance sweetheart :) :)
