The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2013 - Day 7 - The Mentalist vs. Merlin & The Walking Dead vs. Leverage
Jul 22, 2013
2013 TV Series Competition Cancelled Shows The Mentalist The Walking DeadHi folks,
in the previous battles, Hawaii 5-0 emerged the victor of a very tough battle with Elementary, seeing the Holmes show make an earlier exit than I expected. LOST also triumphed over new sic-fi hit Orphan Black to set up a mouth watering round two.
Today sees the ever popular on STV The Mentalist challenging the one of the BBC's biggest historical dramas of recent years, Merlin whilst one of the biggest cable shows in years, The Walking Dead, takes on Leverage. It's worth noting that despite The Walking Dead's popularity, it has never made it into round two.
For anyone who missed the rules, here they are again:
1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for you favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
4) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition.
Here we go...
The Mentalist vs. Merlin
The Walking Dead vs. Leverage
The Draw
Enjoy the battle folks.
Don't forget to Facebook, Tweet, and share the poll with your friends! The more people that you get to vote, the better chance your favourites will win!
Also, make sure you come back tomorrow for the next stage as Revenge vs. Spartacus as well as Desperate Housewives vs. Firefly.

The Walking Dead is really the only vote for me today.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist I also watched for a while...
The Mentalist and The Walking Dead for me.
ReplyDeleteNever quite understood why people find Merlin so great. Second one was easy, The Walking Dead is one of the best shows currently airing.
Merlin is the only vote for me today.I don't watch other 3.
ReplyDeleteI watch all of these, went with Merlin because I am going to miss the series and figured it would not get any love..and boy was I right. ;)
ReplyDeleteWalking Dead gets my vote.
I voted for The Mentalist and The Walking Dead even though I didn't watch them. I think they are great shows.
ReplyDelete1st Poll: No vote since I don't watch either.
ReplyDelete2nd Poll: Walking Dead got my vote.
The Mentalist and The Walking Dead....
ReplyDeleteVery easy choice for me today, though I'd guess that neither of my choices will make it through: in the first poll, Merlin, easily. Not only is it probably in my top five favourite shows ever, but also, I really dislike The Mentalist. Second poll: Leverage, again, partially because I really enjoyed the show when it was on, and partially because I found The Walking Dead pretty boring.
ReplyDeleteMentalist and Walking Dead
ReplyDeleteNothing for me today, as well.
ReplyDeleteNothing for me today!
ReplyDeleteI find The Mentalist and The Walking Dead pretty boring, but the other two aren't good enough to be in a best series tournament so I can't vote.
ReplyDeleteMe either.
ReplyDeleteLeverage is the only choice! :-)
ReplyDeleteMerlin and The Walking Dead :)
ReplyDeleteMerlin (as long as I don't count the last episode, it's one of my favorite series) and
ReplyDeleteLeverage (awesome show, never watched TWD)
#Leverage will get my vote every time.. best and most original show! and if you never watched it.. you just dont know what you are missing!
ReplyDeleteIt actually wasnt an original show considering it copied a lot from the show Hustle on bbc
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead versus Leverage? I'm not sure if Leverage has a chance.
ReplyDeleteLeverage all the way for me :) the gorgeous Christian Kane kicking arse what more could I want
ReplyDelete#Leverage--the only one worth watching!
ReplyDeleteMentalist & Walking Dead.
ReplyDelete#Leverage is the only show for me!
ReplyDeleteI would vote Leverage over almost everything in this contest. The show was a great combination of action, caper, and character. I miss it a lot this summer, especially Parker, Eliot, and Hardison. As for the other I vote Merlin, mostly because I saw all of season 1 of The Mentalist and still could not stand Jayne.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I was really excited about The Walking Dead since everyone raved about it. I think that caused my expectations to be too high because I found it alternately boring and gross. Oddly enough I watched season 1 of The Mentalist the same summer and both tied as the worst show I'd seen that year albeit for completely different reasons.
ReplyDeleteLeverage all the way....gutted they cancelled my favourite show :((
ReplyDelete#Leaverage loved this show want it back so bad,
ReplyDeleteI guess Walking Dead is a very polarizing show, that it never reached round 2
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist & The Walking Dead
ReplyDeleteWalking Dead over Leverage!? C'mon now people! LEVERAGE ALL THE WAY
ReplyDeleteLeverage!!!!
ReplyDeleteDepends a lot on what shows it went against the last 3 years. If it was Supernatural one year and Castle the next, it had no chance.
ReplyDeleteUnless numbers dramatically change for Walking Dead/Leverage this is going to be the closest one yet.
ReplyDeleteBut it's been on the air for three years and I still think my theory stands because it should get more votes since it is the highest rated show
ReplyDeleteVery easy for me! Leverage!
ReplyDelete#Leverage always gets my vote! Love Christian Kane!!
ReplyDeleteLeverage and The Mentalist!
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist is ripped off from the far superior Psych on USA Networks! I will NEVER vote for it.
ReplyDeleteVive la Leverage! :-)
leverage gets my vote every time its my favorite show on TV I love that show hope they bring it back on
ReplyDelete2013- lost to Leverage by 3%
ReplyDelete2012- lost to NCIS by 9%
2011- lost to Castle by 31%
I think the only way Walking Dead will win is if its paired with a weak show like 90210, private practice, pretty little liars, the new normal, etc. It seems like lots of people watch walking dead but most don't have it in their top shows.
Thanks. So it lost against the 17th and 3rd place finishers. That's interesting to know. I don't suppose you know who Castle lost against in 2011.
ReplyDeleteCastle lost to Chuck by 1-2%= 23 votes
ReplyDeleteNothing for me on the first one. The second one is easy. Nothing against Leverage, which I have never watched, but The Walking Dead is my favorite current show, I love it. Sad it seems to have lost though :/
ReplyDeleteWow, that was close. By the way, you are awesome for sharing all this info.
ReplyDeleteSo Castle lost to the #5 show. I think a lot of how a show does relates to its placement in the tournament and The Walking Dead had hard draws for its first two years. If I remember right, TWD has never been one of the Top 10 popular shows on SpoilerTV, although it is still popular here. However I am going to hazard a different guess as to why it has not done well in this contest - it has no core group at STV actively campaigning for it to win. Of the people who always show up for this contest, it probably had the majority of the votes and so should have won. Thing is that you don't win here without getting people who aren't actively watching for a new round to begin.
I would even argue that a show can't win it all without engaging people who have never heard of Spoiler. I'm not sure how many TWD fans promoted the contest via Twitter, FB, and Tumblr but I would guess it wasn't near as many that ended up hearing about Leverage through those platforms. I received nearly 100 tweets about it myself. In the end it isn't about whether the show is polarizing or not and it sure isn't about what show is most popular on SpoilerTV. It's about which shows can get the message out to the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time. Until a Walking Dead fan with connections to other big TWD communities starts spreading the word, it will never get far no matter how popular it is.
When is the next round beginning?
ReplyDeleteOmfg. It is not copying Hustle. Hustle is con men conning whomever they wanted to just for kicks and love of money. Leverage was conmen actually doing good things. Similar yes, copying, no. Have you watched Hustle?! Totally different feel and character dynamic.
ReplyDeleteCopying is like what Syfy does when Pacific Rim came out and literally a week later they have a B movie playing called Atlantic Rim.
I always vote leverage. Mostly because every actor could say more with a glance than half the crap on tv now. Miss it.
I wonder if I'm the only one waiting to pwn desperate housewives...firefly fans will own that pill
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one :)
ReplyDeletePlease let me know when the new voting starts, I'm waiting patiently!
ReplyDeleteLeverage won so I guess they did have a chance.
ReplyDelete1sr merlin
ReplyDelete2nd leverage
I can't believe Leverage came through!!!
ReplyDelete(not that I'm upset... in fact quite the opposite seeing as it was my pick, but I thought there was no way it would beat TWD... huh! Pleasantly surprised...)
True. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteLeverage is the only show for me, it can be anything, you have to think your way out of their difficulties and there is always a wild card something unexpected, it has all the drama, action and even romance of any other show you can name without the steriotypical scripting other shows suffer from.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like The Walking Dead, it's all about zombies roaming around and groups of people trying to survive. Watch carefully they only have about four scripts and while they change the; settings, people, objects used and locations they are just the same repeated over and over.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentalist is a weak version of Leverage, connin someone by making them believe he is psychic so he can hunt down and kill his wife and daughters murderer, I watched and I know there is three maybe four scripts they use. They change the: locations, people involved, item used to murder, settings and are getting deeping into finding Red John but it's still all the same show each time.
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead is just zombies and people trying to survive each show is the same while they up the gore they don't do anything to improve the scritps.
Not seen enough of The Mentalist to comment on that point to be honest.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I disagree with the points you make about The Walking Dead. Much of the show revolves around how the living characters interact with each other, survival against the zombies is not the main focus of the show. I'm not a big fan of the zombie genre myself, but I found that The Walking Dead explored the relationships between the characters much better than in most other zombie shows or movies.
Ijust can't watch it without getting grossed out, it comes off as just another zombie plot, very boring, very predictable
