The potential offshoot, which is still in the early stages of development, will be set in Chi-town, TVLine has learned — and it seems all is not peaceful there.

  1. Okay, this kinda sounds really interesting, tbh.

  2. Depends on who they get to star in it..

  3. oh great. OH GREAT. OH GREAT. LOOK HERE BUSTERS I GOT ENOUGH SHOWS ON MY WATCH-LIST. LIKE 30 OF THEM HERE. I DONT NEED ANYMORE. NO. WHY.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I will only consider viewing this spinoff if Death is a recurring character who hangs out at his local Chicago pizza joint.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It will be hard to match the chemistry between Jared, Jensen, Misha and some other really well done characters.

Additionally, if this goes through, they should have a few more scary episodes to give it a slightly different or more classic SPN feel. While I love the humor episodes Supernatural has started to lean more and more into, I miss season 1 and 2 where I was on the edge of my seat.

    ReplyDelete
  6. OMG, I would totally get behind that. How is it that you don't have a pilot in development already?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I feel positive about the spin-off but I don't know if I am happy that we're gonna "lose" a whole episode to the introduction of new characters.I don't want Sam and Dean to be overshadowed.

    This might be decent IF:
    1) none of the lead cast of normal SPN ever appears in it.
    2) they get the new writers for the spin off.

I always sort of loved the world setting of Supernatural, but the lead cast was quickly turned into boring one-dimensional unlikeable misogyny cliches and writers, past S3, simply have absolutely no idea where to go with the show.

So ignore the normal SPN cast and add new blood into the writing staff and I might give this a chance.

    Agreed on S2 thing.

If whoever is writing the spin off, manages to capture THAT feeling, without going overboard into nonsense they added latter on, this will be the spark supernatural sorely needs to get back in the form...even if not in the main show.

  10. Yes, the chemistry between Jared and Jensen in the pilot is what hooked me on the show and the scariest eps were in season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  11. They are using Dabb. One of the writers tweeted it the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Has anyone thought back over other shows. They do a spin off All the effort goes into the new show. The show it is taken from gets cancelled. I'll just stay with Sam and Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not sure why everyone in the TV Line comments seems to think that the start of a spin-off series will mean the end of Supernatural. NCIS and NCIS: LA are doing just fine together. Angel and Buffy before that. I love the idea of hunters fighting monsters - something Supernatural has gotten away from far too much. I don't expect the show to be Supernatural and I don't expect to love it as much as I loved SPN for 7 years. That doesn't mean that it won't be a good, entertaining show.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm really only watching for the memory of the show Kripke made great. Carver is awful, so why in the world would I want an offshoot of something that was once great and is now angst for angst's sake and manufactured drama embedded in dull filler? How could they possible create something good when they can't even maintain what they already have?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think this is a great chance to get a new show with the same vibe as classic Supernatural. It can be dark, edgy, scary, and action-oriented. It won't be Supernatural. It won't have the same chemistry. In fact, I hope the hunters there are not related at all. It doesn't need to be SPN. It needs to be a good, entertaining show and I think the premise of this sounds great. Plus it probably won't share writers and that can only be a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ha! I absolutely agree with this story idea. Who wouldn't watch a show about Death? I bet he gets customer service next to no other.

    ReplyDelete
  17. That is a very valid concern but there's always a few episodes that use Dean and Sam as wallpaper in the latter years so at least this one will have a point and it's only one episode. My bigger concern though is that these writers have a hard time writing new, sympathetic characters (Amelia?) and they have to be characters we care enough about at the end to follow them to a new series.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Really? Ugh! Instant nuclear bomb on my enthusiasm. Of course just because he cannot write Dean and Sam in character in the same episode for 42 minutes straight doesn't mean he can't get a character of his own making to work I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Actually the idea of a Supernatural universe NOT under Carver makes up a large amount of my enthusiasm for the spin-off. It can drop the overwhelming emoangsting for no purpose, create the scary atmosphere SPN was first known for again, and go back to a very human story about courage in the face of monsters. It could be the story Kripke envisioned again.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Imagine the spin off is about a brother and sister..and the sister is more badas ...that's the dream

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm sure he gets great customer service and I'm also sure that every time he eats there the employees have to go into the backroom and draw straws to determine who has to wait on him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Am I the only one having a problem with the basic premise?

Two men hunted vampires almost to the point of extinction, but I'm should buy in to that hunter and monster "cultures" are just clashing in a city?

Let alone that this seems like they're trying to steal some of what Grimm stole back.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Laziness, lack of ambition, federal warrants, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rock, paper, scissors? I would love to see that scene. Even if they don't know who he is, Death oozes that "don't mess with me" vibe.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Indeed. If there's anyone who would give off a naturally creepy vibe it would be Supernatural's Death.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It would be awesome if he was always introduced with his theme song too. They hear it before they see him and everyone scatters, including the patrons. That's it. Even if we don't get this for the spin-off, we better get it as a webisode.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It might turn out to be the most wonderful spin-off on the planet but it's not for me.
    X

What captured my attention most was the story and charisma of the brother,s the nuances in their characters, their readiness to die for one another; the whole amazing history of the Winchester family good or bad.

The actors too had a lot to do with it, contriburing the on- and off-screen chemistry that made it all so believable. That for me can never be repeated.

    X

As I said it might be a terrific show and I wish it well but even just the premise isn't for me.

Fighting monsters who live in China town just doesn't fire my enthusiasm at all.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm all for "The Life of Death" as a web series.

    ReplyDelete
  29. LOL! These little problems that get in the way of one's aspirations. Dang! Your idea was great too!;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree.
When i started watching I knew nothing of Jared or Jensen but as I continued to watch, I realised that they made the show just as much as the scripts did, and whatever they cook up in the spin-off, it will be very difficult to equal.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The main thing that has kept me a fan of this show for so long has been Jared and Jensen's chemistry on and off set. Yes I enjoy the storylines for the most part, but I watch it for Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen. I really no interest in a spin off.

    ReplyDelete
  32. dont see the actor being up for that somehow

    ReplyDelete
  33. they could just film it arount the time Jared and Gen's baby is due that would give him time off as he'd probably only be a bit part player in the episode anyway. They'll likely write him out of Misha's episode as much as they can too. Depends on the timing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was thinking Dresden Files... Now it really sounds like it :')

    ReplyDelete
  35. Withholding opinion until it premieres (if it does) The premise is good enough, but this will be all about the execution.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Where did you get China town? It will be in Chicago where Death went for great pizza. I will give it a chance because I love that kind of show, not because it is a SPN spin off. It will have to stand on its own.

I really don't want to get hooked on another series like I have SPN, because this last season has broken my heart and I can't even bring myself to rewatch it. Others seasons by this time I have watched several times. I tell myself it is just a show, not real life, but I really loved these characters. SIGH.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If they had gotten James Marsters as Harry I would have liked it better. If you have not heard the audio books with him reading, get it, it is like a movie playing in my head. James has so many different voices..AWESOME. lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. My ignorance of the Usa is showing. I thought it was short for China Town; so it means Chicago. I'm an idiot! Thanks for putting me right!
    X

However I'm still wary of this project.

    Like you i don't consider it a a SPN spin-off.

Without the brothers it's something else, which could or could not turn out great ,but as they haven't managed to find anything new for season eight, I can't see them finding something innovative for a spin--off.
    X

The writers are arrogant, in my opinion, they don't seem to realise how important the actors are to the show.

Even last season they threw the secondary characters on to us, seeming to think they were on a par with the Winchesters, which they aren't.
If it's the same writers who are doing it, thenI can't see it being too good.

Just thinking of people like the characters of Bitten or Krissy or dog-lady being the leads makes me wonder at the IQ of these people.
    X

However I get that you would want to enjoy it without having your heart broken as has been done last year, my heart feels the same way. I join you in your pain. :(

I decided to watch ep 1 of season eight again to see if I had misjudged it, but apart from the not looking, I found it boring, full of exposition and slow as syrup; something that a season premiere shouldn't be.
While purgatory gave us a hot Dean and we got the cute hug between the boys; that's all there was.

Amelia seemed even less likeable second time around and Crowley had the brothers at his mercy and I don't understand why he doesn't kill them when he has the chance. It takes away the danger of facing the King of Hell.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Since I loved Feral Dean I started the first ep last week and just could not get into it, knowing what was coming. I tell myself, "self you need major help"lol, it is amazing how the lack of 3 little words from Sam, "I did look", ruined a whole season of my favorite show.

And as for being an idiot, I would not go near that far, you were not born knowing the weird way we talk over here. ;) I am with one of the other posters and would love for Death to come back for more pizza.

    ReplyDelete
  40. My problem with the spin-off is only that they have made the Monsters somewhat less in terms of fear factor than Angels, Demons and Humans. They don't seem that threatening anymore. S8 wasn't so bad, what ruined it for me was how easy they made it to kill Eve. Here she is, the mother of ALL monsters and she gets killed by a shot of whiskey & Phoenix ash? WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks for the not-idiot, but i should check my facts before writing!
    X

I thought you liked some of season eight, but you seem really depressed about it now.

The not-looking definitely tainted the whole season for a lot of people because they expected to eventually get a reason for it, which we never got.
This was only the second time I watched ep1 but I have no incentive to continue with the rest. :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. I found myself bored silly during most of the early S8 episodes. The premiere was very boring, IMO. In fact, for the first time, I found myself flipping the station during the episode and one week, I forgot the show was on! Haha! That had never happened before.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yup. Carver certainly knows how to bore his audience, but then if you have ever heard him speaking, the man himself tends to be boring too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree with a lot of what you said. I hope that the hunters are not related as well, but I hope that there is chemistry between the cast. Most shows aren't memorable if there is an obvious lack of chemistry. SPN had it right off the bat, but a lot of times it takes a while.

100% agree on the writer thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would watch that just for the name. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. The hunters don't need to be related or heck, even know each other for me. It would be awesome to see two hunters meet each other and build a partnership. But I would love to see a strong female hunter.

In SPN, we really only got Ellen acknowledged as a strong female hunter - but we never really got to see her hunt. There was Jo, but some of the comments made her seem not as strong as Ellen. Which was ok, she was learning. But again, we really never got to see Jo go hand to hand with any of the baddies either (save a hell hound). There have been strong female characters (non hunters and hunters), but because there appearances are so far and in between, the world seems so male dominated.

Let me state for the record, I don't necessarily want a new female on SPN. But that is mainly because they are handled badly --- either as a love interest for one of the boys and that becomes their main and only storyline or because the new female character is given almost a mary-sue being. (Probably used wrong words in that last statement - for instance Charlie - world class hacker who is special to Leviathans and able to hunt zombies and make out with fairies, Krissie - poor little orphan who is the natural born leader of a band of wiz-kid hunters).

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am going to go look for those audio books right now. That sounds bloody fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I phrased that poorly. It most definitely needs to have cast chemistry. What I was trying to say is that I do not expect it to have the instant Jensen and Jared chemistry that Supernatural had right off. Going into the new show will likely disappoint anyone expecting it to.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have all of them and have listened to them many times, you will enjoy them, but start in order.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree but in the last interview they said main character are humains and monsters...and now I want a femal to be the monster for once...just for once.

    ReplyDelete
  51. There have been a lot of female demons. Maybe the writers are trying to tell us something? :P

    ReplyDelete
  52. Most of the Chicago pizza places have a fair amount of roaches in the kitchen. Hopefully he could help out with the pest problem, too.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Kind of makes me wonder what Carver's "Three-year plan" actually was to begin with. I only saw three possible ways to end the show. He's gotten rid of the scary. I don't think I've seen any new monsters. (A powerful hybrid would have been a nice change.) And the relationships remind me of 1980's All My Children.

And it seems the brother angst, which never really bothered me until now because it never ends (like cleaning bugs off your windshield), starts up right away.

Give me ONE angel like Kevin Durand (Gabriel) in Legion and end this crap so the show can get back on track.

    ReplyDelete
  54. A big city always has many people who can disappear without anybody noticing. Can't remember how many times I had the crap scared out of me by looking behind a dumpster at 4AM and see someone looking back. It's very possible monsters could live in a big city unnoticed but I see your point. It may take a while to re-populate.

    ReplyDelete
  55. There is a part of Chicago known as Chinatown!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Eve was about the only "big bad" whose death I liked. Thought it was great that you could use your brains to win, too. My problem was how easily they mowed through three of the four horsemen. War? I've seen nastier bar fights. Azazel and Alastair were okay but that was an earlier time. They need Rambo-like ideas when it comes to whacking monsters.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Doesn't almost every big city in America have a Chinatown?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think so. At least out of the Big Three.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hahaha! I've actually never listened to an interview w/him.

I honestly think the show is reaching its conclusion, and if I'm brutally honest w/myself, I would say it's going past its expiration date. I feel the writers have run out of interesting ideas. I hope I enjoy S9 better than S8, but it's not likely. Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I try and stay away from spoilers for SPN, but did hear him talk about Being Human once and it was a snooze fest.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Here, Here! I toast to you sir. Change All My Children to Days of Our Lives and I agree with everything you've said. (Never watched All My Children). I think a hybrid could be very interesting and offers unlimited choices. One thing I liked about Eve was her power to create new monsters. I really wish they hadn't killed her off so quickly. I also think booting the angels to their own spin-off and getting back to scary is the best plan of all.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Annie was considered a strong woman hunter by the other characters as was the one in Are You There God? and Tara from Magnificent 7. Problem was we never really got to see them in action. I agree that a strong female hunter would be the right start for the spin-off.

I do NOT want it to be a family thing. The brothers are the heart of SPN so I think by making it a group of hunters that, like you said, met along the way and decided to hunt together would be a good way to distinguish the spin-off as its own show. After all, Rufus and Bobby weren't related but it seems that most SPN fans, including me, would love to see that spin-off.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I too am checking it out because it is a genre show, not necessarily because it is a Supernatural spin-off. I try to give all sci fi/fantasy shows a 3 episode shot and this one will be no different. I am however hoping to love it more than typical shows because I think Kripke did a great job of defining his world and if we can get that world back, that is something I very much look forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Two grumpy old guys complaining about fighting monsters?, yell yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Maybe that is why they chose Chicago to begin with....

    ReplyDelete
  66. It could turn out good.... I mean the premise shows some promise. But I'm still staying cautious until I know or see more...
And I still think that spinning another show off SPN now, when it's WAY passed it's prime, is a little desperate...
